00:00The first town hall meeting was held for the seafaring community.
00:05The various challenges that Filipinos face as seafarers today.
00:10These include outdated government policies,
00:14particularly the POEA, Standard Employment Contract,
00:17for fishermen, and the issue of homesickness and exploitative working conditions.
00:23It was also given the importance of passing RA 12021,
00:29or the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers,
00:31which will provide legal protections and improve their situation at work.
00:37It was also pointed out that the important role that seafarers play in global trade
00:42and a big contribution to the economy of the Philippines
00:45due to their remittances, as well as the implementation of reforms
00:49such as modernizing training programs, access to health care,
00:54and providing educational assistance to their families.
