The multimillion-dollar partnership will fast-track approvals for more social and affordable homes across Perth and WA. But the Opposition has questioned its timing.

00:38The Premier announcing a new partnership with Federal Labor to deliver close to 2,000 additional
00:43social and affordable homes to address the housing crisis.
00:47The $440 million pledge will fund upfront construction costs of a mix of affordable
00:53apartments and single dwellings, which will then be sold to the community housing sector.
00:58This is a milestone because we are now building and creating affordable apartments, rental
01:06apartments, that will assist those doing it tough.
01:10This is significant and we really want to applaud them and say thank you.
01:14We're really pleased.
01:15We feel like they've listened to what we've been saying as peaks.
01:18But the WA Liberals weren't sold on the timing.
01:21Less than 100 days before the election, Roger Cook and John Kerry have suddenly woken up
01:26and thought, we've got a housing crisis, what are we going to do?
01:28The party instead turning its attention to electricity, promising to cut the daily supply
01:33charge by 46 cents per day within the first 100 days if elected.
01:38Housing is shaping up to be a key issue for both the state and federal elections amid
01:43surging house prices and a lack of affordable rentals.
01:47The Prime Minister is expected to visit Perth later this week to spruik this housing announcement,
01:52understanding how key WA will be in federal Labor's bid to win a second term.
01:58Western Australia is important to federal Labor and to forming government and it will
02:03remain the case for a very long time to come.
