00:00Scrims are a fighting sport.
00:02When you're on the pitch, the goal is to win, to beat your opponent.
00:06You can find yourself in a situation where it goes very fast.
00:13Scrims built me.
00:14And today I would really like to communicate this to people who are in a handicap situation.
00:22To encourage them to go to the end of their goals and their dreams.
00:28My name is Damien Travessez and I teach wheelchair scrims.
00:45The practice of scrims is above all a rigor at the level of safety rules.
00:52The wear of the mask, the wear of protective clothing.
00:55We have underwear, we have a jacket.
00:57After the practice in a chair, it is a little more complicated.
01:04It takes two plates at least to fix the chairs.
01:09The first time I heard about wheelchair scrims, I was really in question of how it was practiced.
01:19Then I realized that they were able to do incredible things with their hands.
01:24I congratulate the people who practice wheelchair scrims.
01:31There is a form of courage, there is a form of taking control of their personal life.
01:37To say to yourself, today I act.
01:39And I act for my mental well-being, my physical well-being.
01:44And that's commendable.
01:49A year and a half ago, we opened a section of wheelchair scrims within the Muray club.
01:54Within the club, there is a community of practitioners, of wheelchair scrimmers, which has been built.
02:01Among them is Briana Videt, a reference athlete in the field of wheelchair scrims.
02:08Since she participated in the first part of the session, she was able to participate in the second part of the session.
02:16Since she participated in the last Paralympic Games in Paris.
02:23I started scrimming when I was 8 years old. It was a family sport at home.
02:26And I switched to e-sports at the beginning of my adolescence.
02:29I have a hidden disability, which does not affect me much on a daily basis.
02:35But it affects me on the physical practice, especially because I have a malformation of the foot.
02:42If I force myself too much, the bones rub against each other.
02:45So I risk getting arthrosis.
02:47I discovered the Muray scrim club in 2022.
02:52And this club had a real desire to promote inclusion.
02:56So it was a club where I had my place.
02:59And in which I really had something to contribute.
03:02First, I brought this vision of the very high level that they did not necessarily have.
03:07Because they did not yet have young people who went to international competitions.
03:23What makes Brianna remarkable as a scrimmer,
03:27is her ability to overcome obstacles in scrims.
03:35She practices all three weapons. It's complicated.
03:38Practicing one is already complicated.
03:40Physically, she is very impressive.
03:42Because she manages to put in place a mobility on a chair that few think we are able to reach.
03:53I am in the same club as Brianna Videt.
03:56And I am proud of it.
03:59She gave me some advice when we scrimmed together.
04:07For young scrimmers who take their first steps in the club,
04:12she is almost like an idol.
04:15They look at her with sparkling eyes.
04:18The desire to surpass themselves, to reach their dreams.
04:22Even for some, the highest level of scrim.
04:29I am proud of the journey I had during this game.
04:33Even if there is no medal around the neck, it was a fantastic competition.
04:38What is important is the path that leads us here.
04:41And that makes us better scrimmers than yesterday.
04:44And better people too.
04:46And yes, I try to convey that.
04:50When I discovered the sport of scrimming,
04:53and more generally the sport of language,
04:56it opened my mind and made me think that everything is possible.
05:05Today I am very proud of what has been put in place in the club.
05:09We really started from nothing to put this project in place.
05:13Personally, I am satisfied to have been able to open a scrimming section within a club.
05:23I am also very humble, because there is still a lot to do.
05:27This is just a step, there is still a lot to develop and put in place.
05:30We would like to be able to see things bigger,
05:34with support, partnerships, that kind of thing.
05:38And continue to develop within the club and health institutions.
05:42Why not even do a re-education program?
