00:00All right.
00:05It's always my favorite part of the week when I got Mike to course he on the legendary writer
00:09from the sporting news.
00:10He's also on the take for the Big Ten on Fox Sports and the Big Ten network.
00:15And I just will say this.
00:17I don't really want to talk about it because it makes me angry.
00:20But I watched Indiana play in the Bahamas and I thought they were soft as a cinnamon
00:25roll.
00:26They don't rebound.
00:27They can't shoot.
00:28They don't hustle.
00:29I mean, to tell you, like Louisville beat their ass, Gonzaga beat their ass.
00:34I mean, they barely beat Providence.
00:36I was thoroughly unimpressed with the Indiana basketball.
00:41Thank God their football team is going to be in the playoff.
00:43So it's a fallout from rivalry week in college football.
00:48And there were fights galore, Mike, all over the country in these big games as these kids
00:55lost their minds after the games were over and players were trying to plant flags and
01:00do devious things.
01:01And then the fists were flying.
01:02And then cops were pepper spraying coaches and players like, what is happening to the
01:07world we live in, Mike?
01:09Scott, I will say this about what happened in those games.
01:15If you if you if you're Michigan and you're coming in at six and five and you're playing
01:21a Ohio State team that is literally two points from being undefeated and playing at home
01:27and play this whole season to get to this day.
01:30And you take that afternoon from them.
01:33You beat them on the field of play.
01:35There's nothing else to be done beyond that.
01:38Planting a flag.
01:39What is that?
01:40I compared it.
01:41I compare it to winning an Oscar and then joining the cast of of Real Housewives of
01:48Beverly Hills.
01:49I mean, you've already won the best thing you can do in performing.
01:52And now you're going to do this, Chuck.
01:55I mean, honestly, it really is.
01:58So what do you think?
01:59Like I said earlier, I don't remember what the game was.
02:04Mafia might remember, but there was a college basketball game this year already where the
02:07students stormed the floor and they beat a team that was ranked 13th.
02:13And I was like, you got to storm the floor when you win a top five game.
02:18You shouldn't be allowed to storm the floor when you beat a 13th ranked team, because
02:23first of all, the polls don't matter unless you're in the top five.
02:27And basically, then you're one of the powers of college sports when you're 13th or 18th
02:32or 25th.
02:33You don't matter.
02:36There's a sliding scale on that.
02:37If you're DePaul and you beat anybody that can bounce a basketball and you haven't done
02:42that in like 20 years, I'd say if you're if you're DePaul, do you remember McGuire?
02:49Do you remember when McGuire played there, the teams that they had there, when the old
02:55man was coaching there, not his son Joey, but when the old man was coaching there, when
03:00you and I were young, Mike, DePaul was great in basketball.
03:04They could always like went on a run in the tournament and lost.
03:08They could never get over the hump, but they were always a power.
03:12They were.
03:13They did get to the final four in 79.
03:15It's just everybody forgets that because Magic and Bird were there.
03:20But it had been a power.
03:22And even Joey had some great years before things petered out a little bit at the end
03:27of his career.
03:28Great man, Joey Meyer.
03:29We just lost him not long ago, but it has been really fallow for a long period of time.
03:36And Chris Holtman has it going now.
03:38So if they want to storm the floor, if they beat somebody in the Big East, go for it.
03:44A&M was 13 and they lost and the kids stormed the floor.
03:50I thought it was embarrassing.
03:51I have to tell you, though, Mike, you got to admit that the Arizona State mascot did
03:56land a haymaker on the Arizona mascot.
03:59That was quite a punch.
04:00I had nothing to do with players either.
04:02I really don't have a problem.
04:03It's the mascots.
04:04I spent as much time at as I did the Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight.
04:09Scott, I didn't see any of it.
04:11I didn't watch that either.
04:13Mike, you and I are on the same page.
04:14I call that a highlight sports event.
04:17Like most UFC cards, they have one every weekend.
04:19All I need to do is see the highlights to bullshack my way through MMA news on this
04:25show.
04:26I don't care.
04:27What do you think of the Steelers and their performance in the jungle and what Wilson
04:32has meant to them in that big day he had, 4-14 and three tutties?
04:36They look like a complete football team to me.
04:39For my money, it's the Bills and Steelers that are the ones that have a shot at the
04:43Chiefs.
04:44Exactly.
04:45I think they played terrifically.
04:47I think their performance on defense is being underrated, Scott.
04:52You go into that game against the best offense in the NFL right now.
04:56The Bengals are so dangerous with the football in their hands.
05:00You give up a pick six, so that's seven of the points.
05:03Then you're up at one point, 44-21, I think it was.
05:09You give up a couple of late touchdowns that the Steelers clearly were playing for.
05:15They basically said, go ahead and score.
05:18Just don't score too fast.
05:19They probably let them score a little bit more quickly than they wanted to.
05:22In the end, it was exactly the game the Steelers wanted to play.
05:28Because the yardage was big and the point total was big, people are looking at that
05:32as a struggle from the defense.
05:35They created three turnovers and scored on one of them, Scott.
05:38It was a defensive masterclass against the best offense in the league.
05:41I think it's just a continuation of what the Steelers have done on that side of the ball.
05:46Not an interruption.
05:47UCF was the team that beat A&M.
05:53Here's the deal, Mike.
05:54I'm going to the Bengals game, which is January 5th.
05:57It's their last home game.
05:58I'm going with my son.
05:59I'm going to fly in and see the last game.
06:02I tried to pull off the Christmas Day Chiefs game, and my wife, 34C, said she'd sleep with
06:07all of my friends while I was gone if I missed Christmas Day at the house.
06:11So then, today, the Steelers gave me my last chance to buy playoff tickets email.
06:19So I opened it up, and I was going through the motions to pay for it and do it.
06:24I always do it.
06:25But this year, when I got the email the first time around, it was just tons of money.
06:31I'm like, they never play a home game.
06:33They always end up on the road, and they lose.
06:34So I'm not falling for this.
06:36Then they win all these games.
06:37Now they're going to play at home.
06:38So I'm buying the game the following week.
06:41So I'm going to go the 5th, and then they would play in the Divisional Semi at home.
06:48As it stands now, they're getting a home game.
06:50And if they somehow win that, and let's say, I think they'll only play one home game.
06:56I don't know about you, but I'm going to go back-to-back weeks in the freezing cold
07:00of Pittsburgh, January 5th, and then January 12th, whatever it is, I'm going to be freezing
07:05cold, boots, long johns, winter jackets, gloves, whiskey, the whole deal, Mike.
07:13Sounds great.
07:14Absolutely.
07:15Hopefully, it works out like that, that the schedule plays out like that, and they get
07:21a chance to play at home.
07:22Remember, this was also the week when the Steelers got to nine wins, which means no
07:28losing seasons under Mike Tomlin, no losing seasons since 2003.
07:33Scott, New York Jets have had nine consecutive losing seasons.
07:39The Steelers haven't had one since 21 years.
07:44The Steelers' non-losing streak is now old enough to drink.
07:50It's 21 years.
07:53People around Pittsburgh think that's not a big deal.
07:56You live that long and never have to go through a losing season?
08:00It's amazing.
08:02It's vastly underrated, especially by the louder portions of the fan base, but not by
08:07everybody.
08:08How does Michigan do tonight at the Cole, and how does Kentucky do at Little John?
08:13You said in an article over the holidays that the Kansas Center's dirty.
08:19I did say that.
08:20I said he made a dirty play, and that he's made too many consistently out-of-bounds plays,
08:28and Kansas will not get to where they want to go if this doesn't get curtailed.
08:33It's time for him to grow up and play basketball and stop acting as a villain, Hunter Dickinson.
08:39He's better than that.
08:42I think Michigan has a great chance to really pressure Wisconsin, even though it's at Wisconsin.
08:49I think they're going to do well there.
08:52This is going to be the first time Kentucky's really been guarded.
08:54I think they have too much offense for Clemson, but Clemson's an excellent defensive team.
09:00They're going to make it hard.
09:02It's one of the fascinating games of the night.
09:04I'm going to take a stab with them.
09:07Little John, they're 7-1.
09:08They're playing at home.
09:09It's going to be raucous.
09:10You already know, Mike, that teams don't win on the road in the Big Ten.
09:13You're going to have to eat that hoagie the next time I see you.
09:16Great stuff as always, Mike.
09:17Have a great week.
