00:00Many are surprised by South Korean President Yun Suk-kyo's declaration of emergency martial law through an unannounced late-night address this Tuesday.
00:09President said it was because of North Korea's support to the activities of the country's main opposition.
00:14It did not, however, provide details on how martial law would be enforced.
00:18But in a statement by the martial law commander, it said all types of political activities in the country, including the National Assembly, are prohibited.
00:26Also, all media and publications will be under the control of their martial law command.
00:31The leader of the opposition called the President's declaration illegal.
00:34The National Assembly voted and passed a resolution to repeal the declaration of emergency martial law.
00:40Of the over 300 legislators, only 190 favored lifting the declaration.
00:45That's why martial law was formally lifted in South Korea this morning.
00:49Meanwhile, the United States is carefully monitoring the situation in South Korea, according to a senior U.S. official, and hopes South Korea will follow the rule of law.
00:58Six opposition parties have submitted a bill calling for Yun's impeachment.
01:02The main opposition Democratic Party, meanwhile, it had begun formalizing case on charge against the President, as well as the defense and interior ministers.
01:11The country's largest group said members would go on strike until the President quits, and protesters are echoing the widespread demands for him to resign.
01:19Yun's defense minister, chief of staff, and other top officials have submitted their resignations.
01:24In Bagong, Pilipinas ngayon, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega explained that tension between North and South Korea is normal.
01:32South Korea is not the first to visit Korea.
01:36It's not scary that there's tension. There's always tension between South Korea and North Korea, or sometimes political tension between rivals in Seoul.
01:53It's normal for Filipinos. We haven't done anything to the level or prohibition of travel.
02:04We're not telling you not to go, but you need to understand that South Korea has such politics.
02:16There's always something that can happen at any moment. So you need to get used to it.
02:22Maybe because of the tensions, because tourists always visit the borders of North Korea. It's close to Seoul. It's also called DMZ, the military zone.
02:37Maybe because of the tensions, because tourists always visit the borders of North Korea. It's also called DMZ, the military zone.
02:45But there's no reason to cancel the trip. It's not normal. But you need to understand that there's always tension between South Korea and the political situation.
02:56In an interview on Radio Pilipinas, Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Maria Teresa Dizon de Vega said Filipino citizens are in good condition and their movements remain normal.
03:07You don't need to worry because our countrymen are okay here. There's no chaos in the streets. There's always traffic. People are moving around.
03:21We're always open to our lines of communication, our emergency numbers and other forms of communication.
03:31If our countrymen have problems or challenges, they can contact us immediately.
03:39But for now, like I said earlier, we're in Embahada, business as usual. We're open for regular operations.
03:46Filipinos in South Korea are advised to remain calm and follow government-issued notices and advisories.
03:52It was in 1980 when South Korea was last subjected under martial rule for People's Television Network.
