00:00What do you see from Caleb Williams?
00:01What's that?
00:02What do you see from Caleb Williams?
00:03I mean, as talented as there is.
00:05I mean, just stuff that you saw in college, you can see in the NFL.
00:08I mean, as good of a thrower as there is, born to play the position.
00:11Got the athletic ability to do whatever.
00:13He's got the speed to do whatever.
00:15He's gotten a lot of playing time.
00:17He's getting better as this year goes.
00:19I think he's getting a lot more consistent.
00:20I think he's been playing his best ball probably here the last few weeks.
00:24He's put him in a chance to win here in these last few games.
00:26I know the new coach that you're preparing for is, or during season,
00:30there's only so much they can offer.
00:32Yeah, a little of both.
00:33I mean, there's only so much new coaches can do.
00:36I mean, they're not going to change a ton up.
00:38But I mean, they can have a different approach.
00:39You can have a different vibe from the team and stuff like that.
00:41And you just got to be prepared for everything.
00:43But there's only so much.
00:46Could McCaffrey potentially be back in a playoff scenario?
00:50Yeah, I believe so.
00:51I think usually they say that injury is like a six week injury.
00:54So that would give a chance.
00:56You mentioned after the trade deadline,
00:59it's a risk to make a move at the deadline.
01:01It's a risk to kind of, you know, get back.
01:04Did you look back at it with any regrets?
01:06I mean, you can't predict what was going to happen.
01:08But regrets not being more aggressive?
01:12No, because I don't think, I mean, how many aggressive moves you want to make.
01:16You know, and you make one aggressive move.
01:18But I don't think that in what's happened,
01:20just one player would have changed anything in these last three weeks.
01:24Then when you do that, it just hurts you more going forward.
01:26So no regrets at all on that.
01:29Not to mention there wasn't really something sitting there
01:32that was enticing you if it was considered a big move.
01:36So I didn't really see that option.
01:37And you don't ever want to do that just to do it either.
01:40Kyle, what stands out about the player's defense when you watch them?
01:44I mean, I think they're a real good defense.
01:46You know, I think how good they are on the red zone.
01:48I think they're ranked number two in the red zone.
01:50I think they're top five at getting turnovers.
01:52I think they're top five at third down.
01:56It's, you know, when they're top five and getting turnovers in their offense,
01:59I think it's number one at giving up, not giving up turnovers.
02:03It's usually a really good formula for winning.
02:05It's, you look at their team as a whole, they started out four and two.
02:08They went on a bye.
02:10They lost the next game on a Hail Mary versus a good team in Washington,
02:15which, you know, so you'd like to say they should have been five and two.
02:18And the next five games after that, you know, they got blown out two after that.
02:22But these last three games, they played as good as any team in the league.
02:26Playing Minnesota, Green Bay, and Detroit, losing by a total of seven points.
02:30So I see a defense that is capable of being a playoff defense.
02:34They played like it all year.
02:36They've just come up short here in these last five games.
02:39Last week, Christian said that he felt the vibes outside the building were a lot
02:43lower than the vibes inside the building.
02:45After Sunday, do you feel the same way about that?
02:47Do you have confidence that you guys have the vibes to take it on?
02:51I mean, I don't know, we don't go off vibes as much.
02:53I mean, you know, we were pretty disappointed after that game and stuff.
02:57That takes time, but you don't need much more than 48 hours.
03:01We're in here on Wednesday, guys are ready to go to work.
03:03I mean, I think when you compare outside the building, inside the building,
03:06I mean, we're a football team that goes to work and
03:09tries to get better each day we're here.
03:12If you spend your day outside the building just reading and stuff,
03:14I'm sure your vibes won't be the same.
03:16But our vibes here are all about work, and that's what we enjoy doing.
03:20When you're looking at the run defense and
03:23all the rushing touchdowns that have been given up this season,
03:26why is that happening?
03:27Is it just breakdowns at every level of the run defense when you get down in there?
03:32Yes, I think there's not, when you ask why, I mean,
03:35we can go in a ton of things, but
03:37the bottom line is we haven't played good enough run defense.
03:39You look at all of our losses.
03:41I mean, these last two weeks have been as bad as it gets, especially when you give
03:45up the run game like we have in these last two weeks in the first half.
03:49The game's almost over before it starts going into that second half.
03:53Still thought we had every chance to make it a game in the second half, but
03:55that's when we had our three turnovers in both games, which leads to blowouts.
04:01If you look at all of our losses this year,
04:03I think the least amount of yards we've given up in a loss is close to 150.
04:08So we haven't been stopping the run well enough that starts with people being out
04:12of gaps that can go to missed tackles, that can go to not getting off the field on
04:16third down so they get a few more runs called, can go to not getting enough
04:20turnovers, and can go to missed assignments, so it's all of the above.
04:25I never asked you about Brock and his, the fumble that happened.
04:29Is there anything that he could have done or was it just a slip out of his hand?
04:32I mean, it just slipped out of his hand.
04:34I mean, I wish it didn't.
04:35It's not like you put different grip really on your hands and stuff.
04:38You gotta change your motion up a little bit, but
04:41that's also why you try to avoid throwing a lot in those situations.
04:44And that's what you try to do, but sometimes you can't avoid it,
04:48especially on third downs and things like that.
04:49And that's the challenges of playing in those conditions.
04:52Was it to kind of judge what he, his performance in Buffalo?
04:59I mean, it is.
05:00I mean, you take that all with a grain of salt, but we watch each clip and
05:02we talk through it.
05:03And I mean, that was, it's always bad play when you lose the ball, but
05:08as far as going through a progression where the ball should have gone,
05:11that was his number two in the read.
05:13He looked at George, they moved his own coverage.
05:15He took a hitch and was going to rip it to the left side and
05:17was gonna have an explosive to JJ, and the ball slipped out.
05:20So I don't wanna say that was one of his better plays, but
05:24he was doing everything right on that play.
05:25And I think we all saw why the ball slipped.
05:28There's plays in this game that we can coach him up to be better on, and
05:30there's some games, there's some plays where it's like that,
05:33where it's an unfortunate situation.
05:36We'll go today?
05:37Yeah.
05:39Yep.
05:41Juwan, he's had twice after he's had great games,
05:4710 plus catches against the Rams and Seahawks.
05:52He hasn't talked to the team yet, which we would like to talk to him.
05:55But I don't know why he's so pissed about losing, even though he had a great game.
06:00I don't know, is that reflective of anything about him or his competitiveness?
06:05I don't know, I didn't even know he wasn't talking to you guys.
06:07So that's the first I've heard.
06:08Can I do that, too?
06:09Maybe Juwan's just smarter than I am.
06:13Yeah, I didn't know.
06:15Juwan's an emotional dude, and that's what makes him so great.
06:18I mean, you guys see how he plays.
06:20And Juwan's one of my favorite people in the world.
06:22I mean, he's unique, and just the energy he brings to everything.
06:25And I haven't asked him cuz I didn't know that, but
06:27I'm sure he hasn't been in the mood after games, he takes those hard.
06:31Okay, can I ask a follow-up?
06:33I guess.
06:33You're not a bad loser.
06:40I mean, you may be a bad loser, but in public, in press conferences,
06:46you answer the questions.
06:47Not every coach does that.
06:50And after Green Bay, you're getting more questions, and
06:53most coaches are out of there.
06:55Is that your dad, or is that just you as far as how you're supposed to handle
07:00those questions?
07:02I don't know, it's just how I am.
07:03I answer questions, I'm not a good, I don't make stuff up.
07:07So I try to answer you guys' questions,
07:10especially if it's not a stupid question.
07:13Sometimes I struggle with ones that I don't understand.
07:16Forgive me if I think they're stupid, they might not be,
07:17I just don't understand them all.
07:19But that's how I do press conferences, I answer the questions.
07:23So I always try to do that without hurting our own team, and
07:27that's really about as simple as I keep it.
07:31But no, I don't take losing well, but
07:33I'm not showing you guys how I deal with my life in these eight great minutes.
07:37Injuries for practice today, Banks concussion, will not practice.
07:41Trent Williams, ankle, no practice.
07:43Jordan Mason, ankle, no practice.
07:45Bosa, hip oblique, no practice.
07:48Flanagan fouls, knee, no practice.
07:50Demo, knee, limited.
07:52Greenlaw, Achilles, limited.
07:54Huff, wrist, limited.
07:56Everyone else good.
07:57Did the prognosis on Jordan Mason improve since he's not going on IR?
08:01No, he most likely will later.
08:03Yeah.
08:04What was Pufonga gonna practice with as far as his wrist?
08:08He's got some stuff covering it up.
08:09Clubs similar, I think it's similar to Jimmy Ward's.
08:12I haven't seen it yet, but it'll be similar to that.
08:15As far as Greenlaw, you noted last week that you got a quick turnaround after
08:18this Ferris game.
08:20Does that make the Rams game the more realistic game that he could play in?
08:25Yeah, I think it does, more likely.
08:27I mean, we haven't decided fully yet, but we'll see how this week goes.
08:29But most likely Rams, hopefully.
08:32What kind of growth have you seen from Isaac Correndo this year, and
08:34what's kind of his state of readiness for an expanded role?
08:37I think he's ready to go.
08:38I mean, we were excited about, he got off to a late start with injuries in
08:42preseason.
08:42I thought he finished in those games well, especially that kick return he had
08:45versus the Raiders, I think.
08:47Did some decent things when he started out,
08:50didn't get a lot of carries, had some ups and downs.
08:52But got better through everything.
08:54And then when he got the bulk of the carries, I wanna say some more versus
08:58Seattle, he only got better, and he's gotten better throughout the year.
09:01So I think he's ready for this.
09:03Are there specific things that you've seen from him that is just maybe getting
09:06the reps or getting the snaps?
09:07I think just the urgency of running the ball in the NFL.
09:10I mean, I think it takes guys some time.
09:12You start to get a feel for it the more, if you got the right stuff,
09:15the more you get reps, the more you can adjust to it.
09:18How hard you gotta hit stuff, how quick those holes close.
09:20How when there is a hole, how you have to hit it full speed and
09:23you can't hesitate at all, or it closes like that.
09:26So we've seen that stuff get better in practice, and
09:28we've seen it carry over to games.
09:29His background includes, in high school, as being a wide receiver.
09:33Does he have hands, the good receiving skills that you've seen?
09:36Yeah, he can catch it, yeah.
09:38What do you mean out of Ricky Pierce's last three games when he hasn't had a catch
09:42and hasn't had many targets?
09:44I mean, I think Ricky got a little banged up in Green Bay,
09:49battled through that a lot, still was able to play a lot through it, and
09:52helped us out upon return.
09:53And I don't judge much from that Buffalo game.
09:56I mean, I think we had six completions that were screens, and
10:00I think four other guys had a four-yard catch, except for Juwan on a skinny.
10:04So there was nothing really with Ricky there.
10:06We had a chance to hit him downfield one time, and he slipped.
10:09But that was nothing against him for that game.
10:13Coach, I know you said it on Monday,
10:15you hadn't yet had a chance to kind of talk to Christian after getting the news.
10:18How is he kind of doing?
10:19It's clearly been a taxing year on his body, and more than likely mentally.
10:24How is Christian McCaffrey knowing that he's out for the rest of the season?
10:27I think he's doing all right.
10:28I mean, I think he was extremely disappointed.
10:30I mean, right when it happened for him for a couple days,
10:32just talking to him yesterday, I think he's accepting it.
10:35Just not his year, obviously, the way it started out, how hard he worked to get
10:38back, and then having that random injury that he had in Buffalo.
10:41So I know he's disappointed about the year, but I know he's excited and
10:46hungry as hell to get back to work and get ready for next year.
10:48Is there a certainty that Moser will be able to play again this season?
10:55I mean, I'm not God, but I think he's got a chance to play this week.
10:58So I would think that would lead to getting a better chance each week.
11:02But I don't know the answer to that.
11:04What do you know about your new running back, Israel Ahonikon?
11:06What do you like about him?
11:07I mean, I liked him coming out of college.
11:09I haven't studied him a ton in the NFL.
11:11But he was a guy that I had good notes on from college and liked.
11:14And in our scouting department,
11:16thought he was the best guy out there being available and stuff.
11:18So in our situation especially, glad to get him here.
11:21Was he one of the running backs that Bobby was on to in the 23 draft
11:26during the phone calls and things like that?
11:29Bobby's on every single one, so yes, definitely.
