00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. passed two more important amendments to the law.
00:05Among those amendments, there is a law for the mental health of teachers and students.

00:16President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. signed a number of laws
00:21that will help in addressing the mental health of youth
00:24and will strengthen the tourism of our country.
00:30President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. passed the Republic Act No. 12079
00:38of VAT Refund for Non-Residents Tourists Act.
00:41It is expected to encourage tourists
00:44while making the Philippines known as a prime shopping destination in Southeast Asia.
00:50Under the law, foreign tourists will be allowed to claim 12%
00:56of the value-added tax refund for local products purchased here in the country
01:01that amounts to Php 3,000 per transaction.
01:05The products purchased from accredited stores
01:10will be refunded within 60 days of purchase.
01:17According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
01:19the spending of tourists in the country is expected to increase by 30%
01:24which is a big help for small businesses and local industries.
01:28The Basic Education Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act was also passed today.
01:34It will strengthen the mental health programs in schools
01:38by placing a plenty of positions for school counselors.
01:44It is expected to have 4,600 school counselors
01:49who will focus on the mental health of school children.
01:53It will also strengthen the mental health awareness
01:56and suicide prevention efforts.
02:02This is important because it is estimated that
02:051,500 suicide attempts were made in 2024.
02:13This is higher compared to only 300 in 2023.
