00:00Expectations have it Indonesia would put certain conditions on Mary Jane Veloso's repatriation to the country

00:07and perhaps even on a prospective executive clemency or full pardon coming her way, or so we thought.

00:19and Indonesia granting carte blanche to the Philippine government on how to deal with Veloso after she's back home.

00:28After 14 years behind bars and fear of being included on the death row in Indonesia,

00:35convicted overseas Filipino worker Mary Jane Veloso will be going back to the Philippines.

00:40According to the Department of Justice, the Indonesian government issued a pronouncement of Veloso

00:46to be transferred to and under the custody of the Philippines before Christmas Day.

00:50The Indonesian government has indicated or expressed their intention to deport or sorry to transfer her custody

00:57from Indonesia to the Philippines before Christmas.

01:00Sana pong matupad yun, magandang Christmas gift ko sa atin yun.

01:04Because we have just saved a Filipino life from death row.

01:07Exactly the opposite of what the Philippines expected,

01:10the Indonesian government did not ask for any condition to bring Veloso home.

01:15The DOJ confirmed they will not interfere if the Philippines decide to grant executive clemency or even unconditional pardon for Veloso.

01:23No conditions imposed. So binibigay lang si Mary Jane Veloso sa atin

01:29and it is up to us to decide on whether or not there should be other steps taken.

01:35Yung usapin po ng executive clemency or pardon which as we all know is the discretion,

01:40sole discretion of the president of the Philippines.

01:43Yung pag-commute ng sentence niya which is another form of pardon or executive clemency

01:49which facility Mary Jane Veloso will be detained in.

01:53Yun po yung mga detalye na binibigay na po sa Pilipinas.

01:57As of now, the authorities are still deciding on what facility to put Veloso in once she's back to the Philippines.

02:04But they assure her and her family of her security

02:07given her being a key witness in resolving her illegal recruitment case way back in 2010.

02:14The DOJ also said the Bureau of Corrections and the National Bureau of Investigation are ready for Veloso's return before Christmas.
