There were several moments where the Cowboys left meat on the bone in their 27-20 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Bryan Broaddus went and watched the tape from the game and gives some of his takeaways in the video above.

00:00Alright, hey, in the game last night, did you guys realize that, remember the first
00:20punt return that Turpin had?
00:21It was nice.
00:22In the game last night?
00:23He saw a crease.
00:24That thing could have gone for a score.
00:26Oh, you're kidding.
00:27Is this another one of those vision problems?
00:28Don't tell me it could have gone for a score.
00:29I got it out for Bones Fossil.
00:30Is that what you're doing here?
00:31No, this is a Turpin problem.
00:32It was McCarthy.
00:33Now it's a Bones issue.
00:34Well.
00:35Maybe it's both.
00:36I don't know if this is an Izzy or an A.O. problem.
00:39Uh-oh.
00:40Missed block.
00:41Okay, now it's the players.
00:42Yeah.
00:43And I like where you're going.
00:44Okay.
00:45But Turpin's first punt return, and I'm not sure exactly how this was drawn up, but it
00:51did have a chance to score.
00:52If A.O., Izzy, and Hall had sorted out the blocking, and I'm saying this because off
00:59the line, Nick Vigil ends up blocking the linebacker there, one of the linebackers for
01:04the Bengals.
01:06But they triple-team Anderson the safety on the outside, which leaves Hudson the tight
01:12end unblocked.
01:15And A.O. sees Hudson, but he doesn't react to him at all.
01:21He ends up in the alley.
01:23Hudson ends up in the alley.
01:24They get the alley set up.
01:27But A.O., if he gets that block, now it's Turpin on the punter.
01:33Jimmy would cut him today.
01:34And it would be, it's one-on-one with the punter.
01:37If they get that block, and this is where I don't understand it, because I don't know
01:41if this is A.O.'s fault, because after the tackle, Izzy's tapping his chest like he
01:45made the mistake of not blocking Hudson.
01:48And then working to the outside.
01:50So maybe it was one of these things where A.O. had a chance to get him, didn't do it,
01:56didn't make a football play.
01:58But Izzy going out and triple-teaming the gunner, left Hudson.
02:04The one guy they didn't block made the tackle.
02:08So you wonder about special-team stuff, and you're like, are you buttoned up?
02:12Are you buttoned up?
02:13Are you buttoned up?
02:14Are you buttoned up?
02:15All right, how about this one?
02:16You remember 12 men on the field?
02:17Yes.
02:18Hey, your Zebra report?
02:19I mean, just frickin' bullseye.
02:22In the first quarter, I think all of your Zebra report opportunities of where we could
02:26see some laundry were seen.
02:28We gotta gamble on this, don't we?
02:29The formations, the 12 men, I'm looking over at Brian like, guys, how can we not get a
02:33delay?
02:34Delay a game?
02:35It was offsetting penalties, because the Bengals had one.
02:38This was a key play.
02:39You know why?
02:40Because the Bengals had, Joe Burrow had, intentional grounding.
02:43That's right.
02:44Okay, that is going to be third and 27.
02:49That's not an offsetting penalty, and this is how it all came down.
02:52This is Joe Burrow channeling his inner, our guy with the Jets, our Aaron Rodgers.
02:59So Burrow notices that Zimmer's trying to get Lawson on the field, and Mozzie Smith
03:05was late getting off the field after helping make a tackle.
03:09His getoff's been a problem since day one.
03:11Yeah.
03:12Burrow gets the group to the line, front seven is scrambling, Osa beats Kappa the guard,
03:17which we talked about, which forces Burrow to have to ground the ball.
03:22Offsetting fouls results in a lost chance here for the Cowboys, because they would have
03:28made Cincinnati third and 27, instead they hit chase the next play for 14 yards, and
03:35then another play after that, a run to get the first down.
03:38So the Bengals are going to be, with that grounding penalty, they're going to back them
03:43way up.
03:44Third and a million.
03:45Third and 27.
03:46Instead, the offsetting penalty.
03:47So Burrow, them trying to get Lawson on, get Smith off, cost them.
03:53Burrow saw what they were doing, got his guys to the line, unfortunately that was a bad,
03:58bad situation.
03:59All right, the fourth down stop that the Cowboys make.
04:03This is really a great job by the rush holding lanes versus Burrow.
04:08And he tries to climb forward in the pocket, but he's got really nowhere to go.
04:13Rosa and Golston are pushing the middle.
04:16Parsons off the edge forces the dump off to Brown, who is just short of the sticks.
04:21This is when Overshown drove on the ball and knocked the ball loose.
04:25Great play, man.
04:26Amazing play.
04:27So it was, the Cowboys had had some trouble in this game when Burrow was climbing, of
04:32not staying in lanes.
04:34This one was when they got kind of everything you talked about, being buttoned up.
04:38But that was a really, really nice stop, because once Burrow stepped up, he had nowhere to
04:42throw the football.
04:44He tries to throw the ball, like I say, underneath to Brown.
04:48Great job by Overshown driving on the play and kind of knocking it loose there.
04:51Man, between Overshown, Diggs, and Donovan Wilson, they were just gunning for every football.
04:56I thought they were doing a hell of a job at that.
04:58Yeah, I agree with you on that 100%.
05:01All right, the Leofow Wilson sack later in the game, the defense might have caught a
05:07break here.
05:08Dawson brought it up and he saw it.
05:10The face mask?
05:11The face mask.
05:12They take Burrow's helmet.
05:16He's looking out the ear hole.
05:17It's obvious.
05:18And Scott Novak is in the back.
05:20He's trailing the play, can't really see it.
05:22But really good job by Leofow and Wilson.
05:26And so, what the Bengals were doing was they were putting their tight ends up on the line,
05:32behind the line, to kind of pick up the double A-gap looks that the Cowboys were giving.
05:38And so, Leofow does a great job of beating Sample, the tight end, who's played in kind
05:44of that, what they call a sniffer position.
05:46They're right there along the line of scrimmage.
05:47Why do they call it that?
05:48Because he's kind of sniffing things out.
05:51That's what he's doing.
05:52He's kind of sniffing.
05:53Sniffing.
05:54I thought it was because he was right behind.
05:55That's kind of maybe something you could say too, but I guess he's kind of sniffing.
05:58He's like his face mask is touching the rear end of the...
06:00He's sniffing things out.
06:01That's what I kind of think.
06:02He's hanging around that rim.
06:03Hanging around that rim.
06:05But really, this is when Leofow does a great job of beating Sample, the tight end.
06:10And then Wilson just destroys Hudson, the tight end, on the outside.
06:15Burrow's going to slide forward.
06:16Leofow grabs the front face mask and turns his helmet.
06:20And then the ball is on the ground, but Hudson, the tight end, who got worked, falls on it
06:27before Wilson could get there.
06:28But that was the play that got them the opportunity to maybe go ahead in this game.
06:35Maybe go win this football game.
06:37Okay.
06:38Let's take a break here, if you don't mind.
06:39And then we'll jump in if Mike McCarthy starts yapping up there at the star.
06:44And after him, we'll get you more Krusty's Corner.
06:46We'll do Krusty's Corner 2.0 at 5.30 as well, right there in the middle of the Expressway.
06:50And we're back right here.
06:52It's the Gbag Nation here on your Home of the Cowboys, 105.3.
