How visible are police officers in your community, and you think their presence makes a difference?

00:00When I'm walking around Newcastle especially I see a lot of them, but when I'm walking around Durham

00:05you don't tend to see any. I think I've got a lot of things to say on this, I think obviously

00:09I think when the things are going on in the city centre the police are there to stop it,

00:13I think they're quite good in that, like in trying you know disorderly conduct I think

00:15they're quite good in that. In terms of crime though I do think you know my bike's been stolen

00:19recently and I know people I live in the viaduct and I know many people who like someone's car

00:23got stolen recently as well right literally from their driveway right as people in the house.

00:27I mean so like I think uh like crime wise is horrific but I do think that's more down to

00:32us students not really locking any doors or caring about our security in any sense,

00:36I think we're just easy targets. There was statistics showing that police even in Durham

00:42will just ignore people like doing cannabis in the streets because they don't see it as

00:45a massive issue and they've got other priorities, but I do think that especially things like doing

00:49weed is a gateway to anti-social behaviour so they do need to sort that out before it goes any

00:52further. Yeah like they need to pay more attention on the patrols because not everything

00:57is going to be a triple homicide but it doesn't mean it's not important.
