00:00Congratulations you're making your Marvel debut. What was it like when you
00:04got the call saying that you were gonna be a part of this?
00:06Oh well you know what I actually, this is a fun story, the night I won the
00:13SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story, my team took me to
00:18dinner and a waiter came and brought out a dessert and he said here you go
00:23Calypso and I was like I'm sorry what? Like looked at him like he had seven
00:27heads and my team was like you got the job and I said oh my god we had like a
00:31really fun celebration and it was a really glorious night yeah it was cool I
00:36was terrified but also very excited. And to be able to kind of like debut a
00:43Marvel character or comic book character in this way has to be really exciting
00:47what was it like to be on that set and sort of build out the dynamic with Aaron
00:51Taylor Johnson do you feel like there was anything that you guys did to build
00:54that chemistry or would you say it was pretty instant? I personally felt our
00:59chemistry was instant you might would have to ask him Aaron is an exceptionally
01:05talented actor he loves to spar he both finds the depth of a character and and
01:12the humor and everything in between and that's a really fun person to be in the
01:18sandbox with I think he in the context of our of our work together I was very
01:22inspired by him at different points he played a scene in a creek with a fish
01:28that I just never seen a funnier moment and I I was like I gotta I'm gonna work
01:33on my my own like sense of freedom and play and he was very inspiring to me we
01:40I had a really good time mind you we made this movie over quite a long time
01:46but I learned a lot about you know continuity and and and being even more
01:53malleable than even I expected to be I think when you bring characters that
01:58derive from comics to the screen there is a certain amount of expectation but
02:03also this film with JC Chandor's direction it is a departure from the
02:08traditional styles that you have seen from the Sony Marvel Universe it is a
02:13stand-alone film so that did give us a lot of freedom because we don't tie into
02:17other things and I personally was very liberated by that because it allowed me
02:22to kind of go to Calypso's origins and play a very layered woman coming to a
02:30transitional time in her life meeting an unexpected partner because you don't
02:35expect a partner in crime or or not crime to look like that his costumes are
02:43his arms and his abs so it's it's a beautiful thing very quickly I wanted to
02:48ask we have our question of the week where we're asking the same thing to
02:50everyone on the carpet so what is your favorite movie of 2024 outside of your
02:55own 2024 outside of my own that is a really hard question because I watch a
03:04lot of movies I did thoroughly enjoy Wicked I'm not gonna lie it's like it's
03:13very much at the forefront of my mind I really enjoyed that film the sisterhood
03:19well it's like I think it's great to explore that kind of love between
03:22friends you know what I mean it's very deep especially amongst women and the
03:27world that they created and how how they did that with such attention to detail
03:31the costumes the DP the the sets oh my god I've just I'm very rent-free living
03:38rent-free totally fine like also all hail Michelle Yeoh Bowen Yang Cynthia
03:43and Ariana I'm just like well done so that that's what's on my mind right now
