Brett Favre addresses Mark Gastineau's confrontation on Twitter, do we believe him?
Transcript
00:00Okay, here was the Brett Favre, uh, he was the Brett Favre tweets.
00:04So Brett Favre, he said, I want to clear the air on the footage release
00:09showing the small dust up between myself and Mark Gasser, really a dust up.
00:14The former New York jet.
00:16So here's a thread.
00:19This, this needs a thread.
00:20You know, Brett, you're allowed to tweet long now.
00:23Anyway, back in 2002, when Michael Shrayan sacked me at the end of the
00:26that we had wrapped up, I was in no way trying to hurt Mark Castano.
00:31I was trying to close out a game, squeeze out the last bit
00:34of fun of a hard fraud game.
00:36I booted out of a run thinking it would be wide open.
00:38I saw straight hand standing there and ducked down.
00:40The game was over.
00:41There was no need for me to do anything spectacular.
00:44Probably wasn't Michael's best sack or tackle for loss in a different game or
00:47situation, I might've made a bigger effort to avoid the sack or the tackle for loss.
00:51But at no point was I thinking about hurting Mark Gastineau, maybe across my
00:55mind to help stray hand, but I didn't think it through.
00:58That wasn't my forte at the time.
01:00I just want to have fun and compete in retrospect.
01:03I understand how Gastineau feels.
01:05We played a brutal game.
01:06Gastineau played during an era where guys didn't make generational wealth.
01:10Uh, now I see now that being the sack King would elevate his value at card
01:15shows and train this case for the hall of fame in Creek increases
01:18demand as a public speaker.
01:20I had no way of knowing it then.
01:21And I realized now the potential implications because football, uh,
01:27because football is far more business oriented than when him or I played.
01:31There was no malice on my part.
01:32Mark was a great player.
01:33My understanding is that he's a great guy and a fun teammate.
01:36Um, and a while back, he saw me at a card show, got his frustration off his chest.
01:42It's not the kind of moment that should be filmed or released.
01:44It was a private moment of frustration between two football,
01:47old football time warriors.
01:49I have a great deal of respect for Mark.
01:50I hope one day he joins me in the hall of fame.
01:52He's earned it.
01:52Look at his numbers.
01:53He clipped 20 sacks twice that 19 another year.
01:56He's definitely made an undeniable Mark on the game.
01:59I hope this country brings attention to how great Mark Gastineau was.
02:02He belongs in Canton.
02:03Merry Christmas, everyone.
02:04Brett well said, well said, where's the money, Brett?
02:10Well, somebody had something to say about this.
02:16Somebody dust off his Twitter.
02:19Oh, that person was named Torello.
02:20And oh, man, T O.
02:24He says, while you're clear in the air, clear the air on the
02:27misappropriation of the funds you were pocketing.
02:33Oh, T O.
02:34Wow.
02:36Like he's got his fastball on Twitter.
02:39Hey, but I don't think, think about this.
02:43You should be on TV.
02:44I don't think at the end of a football game, Brett Favre was thinking
02:51because Green Bay won that game, right?
02:54Yes.
02:54Right.
02:55I believe so.
02:56Yes.
02:56So why would he take unnecessary hit?
02:58It's the end of the game.
03:00And furthermore, you think that that dude was thinking, I'm
03:06going to screw Mark Gastineau.
03:09You think he knew who was the sack leader?
03:12That's kind of the thing.
03:13I think that he's realizing though, you know, he understands now,
03:18but I think it wasn't his intent.
03:20No, he said, I mean, he said, I kind of, you know, this is kind of a
03:23crazy thing to say, but I believe Brett Favre, please don't save that as a
03:28clip because I never want that for anything else, but Brett Favre, I think
03:35Brett Favre is probably just was trying to do Michael Strayhan a solid while
03:39not getting hurt and yeah, you don't think about, Oh, what are the
03:43ramifications of Mark Gastineau?
03:46Even though I think he was there for the game.
03:48Like, and I don't know, like put it this way.
03:53If I made that tour, what would you tell to get down?
03:58Right.
03:59You already won the game.
04:00Get down.
04:02Yeah.
04:02But is that, I don't know the exact situation, but was that a scenario
04:06in which he probably just could have need the ball and instead scrambled a
04:11little because it didn't seem like anyone was paying the end of the game though.
04:15Yeah.
04:16There's a kid.
04:16You just get down, take a knee.
04:18He's still good.
04:19He would still get credit for the sack.
04:22So if he took a knee and he touched him, he still gets credit for the sack.
04:26Okay.
04:27But what if like, he, like, it's the end of the game, right?
04:30You have the lead.
04:31A normal situation would call for a throwing it away.
04:34Well, no, we'll just a one-step drop me.
04:36Like before even any of you talking about, you talking about it, was it victory?
04:40No, it wasn't.
04:41It wasn't that late in the game.
04:43It wasn't that.
04:43Okay.
04:43Okay.
04:44Okay.
04:44Right.
04:44So then a play had to occur of some sort.
04:46I was correct.
04:47Correct.
04:48You couldn't throw it away.
04:49Clock stops for sure.
04:51For sure.
04:51Well then.
04:51Yeah.
04:52You know, you got the game in hand for sure.
04:55So this seemed like no one else was playing though.
04:58It was just like weird.
04:59Like, Oh, we're doing this.
05:00He's scrambling.
05:01Oh, he's laying down.
05:02Okay.
