00:00Twenty-one containers of smuggled frozen mackerels were distributed by the government in Manila.

00:07The President said he doesn't want smuggled fish to go to waste.

00:11But when he looked, he found a way to eat them.

00:14Bernadette Reyes was able to find a way.

00:18Cans of mackerels were distributed to residents of Baseco in Manila

00:22under the leadership of President Bombo Marcos.

00:25Two kilos of frozen mackerels per family.

00:28These are the mackerels that were tried to enter the country in September.

00:33But the Bureau of Customs prevented it

00:35because there was no sanitary and phytosanitary import clearance

00:38from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

00:41This was formally turned over to the Department of Agriculture

00:44while the President was inspecting the Manila International Container Port.

00:48This has been inspected. It's safe for human consumption.

00:52So while it's still possible, let's distribute it so it won't go to waste.

00:57And our countrymen can use it.

01:00We eat it for lunch and dinner.

01:03Instead of destroying it, it's better to distribute it to those in need.

01:07This is a big help because no one is looking for it except me.

01:11The 150,000 families in NCR Region 3 and 4

01:15will benefit from 21 containers full of mackerels.

01:19The President said the problem with smuggling in the country is solved.

01:22The problem with smuggling is that they let it in

01:27They won't let it out.

01:28They'll wait until the prices go up.

01:30When the prices go up, they'll buy it.

01:33We won't allow this kind of system to continue.

01:38Because of the effects of the floods on the fish supply,

01:42the Department of Agriculture approved the importation of 8,000 metric tons of fish.

01:47Aside from the 30,000 metric tons of fish imported,

01:51it was the first to be approved to fill the shortage of supplies

01:54in the months leading up to the close fishing season.
