00:00Around 1,200 cycling Santas descended on central London on Saturday, adding a splash of colour
00:08to the capital as part of a fundraising event to support a children's charity.
00:13Onlookers gazed on in amazement as the army of Santas cycled down Paul Mall towards Buckingham
00:18Palace.
00:19Dressed in red Santa suits, some as elves with faces painted green, they toured the
00:24capital to collect money.
00:26The event marked the 10th edition of annual Santa Cruz, set up by BMX cycling enthusiast
00:31Stéphane Wright, who got the idea for the event after receiving support from the ECHO
00:36charity after his son was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack aged only six months.
00:42Originally, this was started ten years ago, Tommy was in hospital, he had been hospitalised
00:47due to a near-fatal heart attack, when I was in hospital we received charity from ECHO
00:54in the form of somewhere to stay up in London, and this was just me paying it forward, I
00:59wanted to do something for the charity, and so we decided to do a ride out just for Christmas
01:02time in aid of that, and it grew each year from there, that was in 2014, there was 200
01:08people on that ride, there's probably 1,200 on this ride, it's grown organically every
01:12single year.
01:14On London's Oxford Street, the cycling Santas squeezed past London black cabs and buses
01:20standing out from the crowd of pre-Christmas shoppers on one of the busiest days of the
01:24year.
