Transcript
00:00Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Beck!
00:07So, let me explain.
00:10So, I'm Nicole Alvarez, this is Megan Holliday and we're like, we both love Beck so much
00:14and instead of, you know, being catty like normal and fighting, we're like, let's just,
00:18we'll double team him.
00:19Yeah.
00:20And he'll be fine and we'll call it two girls, one Beck.
00:22Don't act like you don't know what that is.
00:24Don't act like you don't know what that is.
00:27So, two girls, one Beck, and I'm just gonna like, she's probably gonna be more serious,
00:31I'm probably just gonna straight up ask you like sexy questions.
00:34I don't know.
00:35But you can start, go ahead, you can start.
00:37Okay, well you were just saying that you played with The Verve around this time.
00:41I did.
00:42Yeah, tell us about that.
00:44It was a big field in London, or in England, and they were at the height of their heights.
00:51Yes.
00:52Yeah.
00:53Oh my God.
00:54You've played with a lot of artists, Beck.
00:56We played with a lot of people back in the day, yeah.
00:58Do you remember the first show you ever did in LA?
01:01The first show was probably at like a little coffee shop or a bar downtown or something like that.
01:08Yeah, that's awesome.
01:09And then now you're here at Acoustic Christmas.
01:11Yeah.
01:12Once again.
01:13Here we are.
01:14Yes.
01:15But keeping it on LA, you're born and raised in LA, so let's say we were gonna go on a date
01:19and you wanted to show us your Los Angeles.
01:21What is your dream date with two beautiful ladies and the city of Los Angeles?
01:27We're playing two girls, one bed, okay?
01:29Leave me alone.
01:30I'll have to pull up in my Hyundai first.
01:32Yes, sir!
01:34Okay.
01:35Take you up to Glendale.
01:36Okay.
01:37Glendale?
01:38For a real good meal.
01:39We're going to Glendale?
01:40Yeah.
01:41At what time of day does our date start?
01:43Ideally.
01:45Well, you know, in LA the party doesn't really start until 11.30 at night.
01:48Beautiful.
01:49So maybe grab a late dinner.
01:50Okay, okay, okay.
01:51But, like, does her name have to be Debra, though?
01:53It does.
01:54Does it?
01:55It doesn't have to be.
01:56Okay, okay, fair enough.
01:57Okay, let's get to know.
01:58Debra's kind of a euphemism.
01:59Ah, okay.
02:00How does this night...
02:01Where do we go watch music and how does this night end?
02:05I think that, you know, it could go five different ways, really.
02:10Name me your favorite.
02:11Yeah.
02:14Well, sitting by the fireplace here with you guys.
02:17Ah, okay.
02:18It's nice, cozy.
02:19With a melted disco ball.
02:20You're keeping it wholesome.
02:21Yeah.
02:22Megan, your turn.
02:23Yeah.
02:24All right, well, this is a question that I have to ask.
02:27What do you do to kind of keep your brain in check, staying mentally fit and well?
02:32What are the things that kind of keep you sane?
02:35I was going to ask you the same thing.
02:38I do a lot of things.
02:39You got any good ideas?
02:40I do a lot of things.
02:41Yeah.
02:42Yeah.
02:45A good friend of mine got me some TM classes, which I did.
02:50Okay.
02:51But I haven't been doing it.
02:54Any of those transcendental meditation?
02:56Yeah.
02:57I have not transcended, unfortunately, but I really would like...
03:00You have your mantra?
03:01I would like to.
03:02I would like to.
03:03Yeah.
03:04I don't know.
03:05I'm probably a bit of a nature person.
03:07Yeah.
03:08And then also my friends, you know, just being with my friends.
03:11Mm-hmm.
03:12Yeah, I love that.
03:13Two girls, one back.
03:14Okay, so lastly, if you were out with somebody, with a lady, with the two of us,
03:19and we were like, we don't know your music, give me one of your 14 incredible albums,
03:24the one that represents you the best, the one you want representing you the best,
03:28which one would it be?
03:29Well, maybe Sea Change.
03:33Oh, that's a good one.
03:34It's sort of melancholic, but it's romantic as well.
03:38Yeah.
03:39Well, before we go, though, what do you got going on?
03:42Making new music?
03:43What's up?
03:44Making music.
03:45We did an orchestral tour.
03:47Yes.
03:48With the orchestra this year.
03:49Yes.
03:50Yeah.
03:51That was wild.
03:52And yeah, just making songs.
03:55That's all I do.
03:56Do you have plans for putting out new music next year or playing shows?
04:00I hope so.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Okay.
04:03I really hope so.
04:04If there's one artistic thing that's not musical or one thing that you want to tackle
04:07that has nothing to do with writing music, what would it be?
04:09Yeah.
04:10I mean, I'd love to make a movie.
04:12I wish I was a painter.
04:13I can't do that.
04:15It's not too late, babe.
04:16No, I really can't.
04:17I think you're born with that talent.
04:19I'm not.
04:20You've got many, though.
04:21But making a film, but I'm scared of the idea of making a film
04:24because I have friends who are filmmakers,
04:26and I see it takes a little piece of their body and soul.
04:30Yeah.
04:31It's a lot of work.
04:32It's a lot of work.
04:33Yeah.
04:34Well, we look forward to seeing what you do next,
04:36and thank you for playing two girls, one Beck.
04:38Yeah.
04:39Thank you very much.
04:40It's a sitcom.
04:41It's coming soon.
04:42Yeah, the sitcom's coming.
04:43We already got the set.
04:44We could start at a sitcom and not the movie.
04:45I really think this could fly, actually.
04:46I think so, too.
04:47We'll talk after this because we've got to get this guy on stage.
04:49Thank you so much for coming to KROQ's Almost Acoustic Christmas.
