00:23The streets of Angela City, Pampanga, lit up with the closing of these beautiful and colorful Parol.

00:29Every barangay has an entry to the procession.

00:31This is their year of Lubenas of Christmas, an old tradition of the Kapampangans.

00:35It is also the beginning of one of the favorite Christmas traditions of us Filipinos, the Simbang Gabi.

00:40As a religious tradition that started in 1830, this symbolizes the deep faith and unity of the angels.

00:50But do you know what is the symbol of the Parol that they are closing?

00:58Lubenas comes from the word Luvina, which means day.

01:02It refers to the day of Simbang Gabi.

01:05Most of us are used to going to Mass early.

01:09The Kapampangans perform the procession on the eve of Simbang Gabi as a penitence and preparation for the birth of Jesus Christ.

01:16And in their procession, the couples hold lanterns or Parol.

01:20The traditional Parol used by the angels is Kawaian and Pateria.

01:27Aside from a dozen Parols that symbolize the Twelve Apostles,

01:30there is also a Parol that looks like a cross and a fish that symbolizes Jesus.

01:35But Lubenas is a tradition that is slowly disappearing.

01:38Aside from the angels, the municipality of Magalang, San Fernando, Mabalacat, and Mexico.

01:45That is what Lubenas still has.

01:48In order for the religious tradition to continue, which is done every year,

01:54it was stopped.

01:55It is only now that it is okay, after the pandemic.

01:59And because of the tradition of closing the Parol during Lubenas during Christmas,
