00:00The local government of Canlaon City called on the National Government for additional assistance to support the thousands of individuals affected by the eruption of Volcano Canlaona.
00:10Details in the national news of Jesse Atienza of PTV Cebu.
00:16Tricycle drivers are constantly searching.
00:19Mang Ramil is with the volcano from the town proper of Canlaon City.
00:25If the worst-case scenario happens, they are ready to evacuate.
00:35At the command center of the LGU of Canlaon City,
00:38assistance and donations from various NGOs and private organizations are continuously coming in.
00:44Even the local government of Bayan ng na Libertad gave assistance to Mayor Emmanuel Limcaichong Iwai.
00:55We should help out our neighbors.
00:57And then when I found out that they really needed help here in Canlaon, that's why we initiated this program here.
01:02I spoke to Dr. Elmer L. Balest, the city health officer here,
01:05and he told me that he needed doctors because the number of doctors here in Canlaon is not enough.
01:10So that's why we're organizing this.
01:12We brought about seven doctors coming from Siliman University Medical School.
01:15A medical mission in eight evacuation centers in different parts of the city was conducted.
01:21Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas called for help from the national government
01:26because the LGU could not continue to support the internally displaced persons,
01:32who are now more than 5,000 individuals.
01:36Really, I am calling the national government to please help us.
01:42In order for us to hold and sustain these evacuees,
01:47we can only hold these evacuees if we can sustain their needs,
01:51such as food, non-food items, so it is really important.
01:56In June of this year, Canlaon City first declared a state of calamity
02:01after the first volcano erupted in Canlaon,
02:04and it remained until it erupted again in December 9.
02:09According to the LGU, their funds are running out
02:12and they are ready to accept any kind of help or donation
02:15so that our affected countrymen can be part of the situation.
02:19From Canlaon City in Negros Oriental, Jesse Atienza for Balitang Pambansa.
