00:00The agricultural sector is focused on improvement with key officials under scrutiny for performance issues.
00:07On the other hand, efforts are being made to boost and support funding for the sector in the future.
00:12Our Floyd Renz tells us more.
00:17Two high-ranking officials from the Department of Agriculture may be dismissed
00:21according to Agriculture Secretary Francisco T.U. Laurel, Jr.
00:25T.U. Laurel declined to name the two DA officials,
00:28but revealed they have been given a six-month ultimatum to each improve their performance.
00:33What I don't want to happen is that there are other things that need to be done.
00:39I needed my intervention.
00:41In spite of my busy, busy schedule, I had to stop other things
00:45so that I can prove and approve and sign all the requirements that were given back at last minute.
00:54Meanwhile, five more importers face possible blacklisting by the DA,
00:58adding to the 10 already banned for involvement in agricultural smuggling.
01:02The DA emphasized that illegal product smuggling poses serious threats to public health and livelihoods of farmers.
01:09I have five more to complete.
01:14Three fish and two meat.
01:20The Agriculture Department aims to revitalize the agricultural sector in the coming year
01:25after enduring setbacks from El Nino, consecutive typhoons, volcanic eruptions, and livestock diseases.
01:32This is the year that all possible events happened.
01:36This is a depressing year for agriculture in a sense,
01:40but it reacted quickly to all the calamities that we've faced.
01:48Other LGUs are surprised that the DA's response is a bit fast,
01:55plus even the timing of giving seeds fertilizers in the majority of the areas is on time.
02:03By 2025, the budget for the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund, or RCEF,
02:08will triple to P30 billion from P10 billion following amendments to the Rice Tarification Law.
02:13The increased budget will fund initiatives to boost production,
02:16such as acquiring solar irrigation systems and rice processing facilities.
02:22These efforts target over 20 million metric tons in rice production
02:26and a 2% growth in the overall agricultural sector.
02:30Floyd Brentz, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
