00:00The role of the caregiver, which has always been quite unknown, is to allow the person
00:12who is ill to have a support, a support, a guide, a help, an accompaniment, a whole
00:18series of, how to say, needs of a sick person.
00:23The caregivers take on this role, which very often, in fact, more than once, determines
00:29a change in one's life, renounces oneself and sometimes abandons work, because
00:36a sick person with a brain disease, a serious mental illness, cannot be left alone.
00:44This is the story of many relatives, especially women, but not only, but predominantly women,
00:51who have to give up a large part of their lives in order to, how to say, to free themselves
01:00from guilt, because this bad illness has put the guilt of the illness of the family
01:07and of the illness of their members.
01:09And very often, in the woman, in the mother, there is a sense of indispensability, of renouncing
01:18herself, because perhaps she had some fault in raising her children in a certain way
01:24and bringing them to illness.
01:27Finally, we are freeing ourselves of this idea, of the idea of guilt and shame, because
01:32mental illness is a brain disease, and therefore of an organ, like many other diseases,
01:38even if there are many other factors.
01:41We do not deny social influence, also family, and all the rest.
01:45In order to return to the caregiver, a figure that must be rediscovered, re-evaluated and
01:49supported, because without the support of the caregiver, the sick person has no possibility
01:56of healing.
