00:00Hello and welcome to your personal finance roundup. I'm Alex Nelson from
00:05National World, here to save your Christmas budget one tip at a time.
00:08Let's dive in.
00:16First up, and brace yourselves, Christmas dinner is hitting your wallet harder
00:21than ever this year. The average cost for a festive feast before is up 6.5%, now
00:27sitting at £32.57. Why? Well, it's all down to higher prices for turkey,
00:33vegetables, and surprisingly, potatoes. Yes, the humble spud has had a glow-up, and
00:39with prices soaring by 16.2%, it's practically a luxury item. Meanwhile,
00:45cauliflower is crashing your dinner at 14.6% more. Our advice? Skip the
00:50pallid veg altogether and celebrate the real festive miracle. Sparkling wine
00:54prices have remained flat since last year, so maybe cheap fizz might just save
00:58the day. Next, Monzo users, your spending habits are in the spotlight. The bank has
01:05launched its Year in Monzo, a spending recap inspired by Spotify wrapped.
01:09Whether you'd like a nice report or a savage takedown of your habits, you'll
01:13find it right at the top of your app. Perfect for anyone brave enough to face
01:17the reality of their coffee addiction, or that one friend who refuses to split the
01:21bill. And finally, some good news for NHS and HSE workers. Uber is spreading
01:27Christmas cheer by offering two free £10 rides to or from work on Christmas
01:31Eve and Christmas Day, plus a £10 Uber Eats voucher. If you're eligible, make
01:37sure to link your NHS email to your Uber account before Friday the 20th of
01:40December at 11.59pm. It's Uber's way of saying thank you to those working
01:45tirelessly this festive season.
01:51you
