00:00I think the script
00:05so when I heard Karate Girls, I wasn't attracted to it
00:16I was like, it's a girl's story, what will I do with it
00:18so when they told me the script in detail
00:23when I understood the relationship between the characters
00:30it's so detailed and layered
00:34I liked the script
00:54I was very drawn to it
00:56and working for something like this
01:01was a little challenging for me
01:04and something that was out of my comfort zone
01:08so I was quite interested at the first go when I heard the narration
01:13and when I got to know that she will be playing
01:19and the whole set up where I have to do intense action sequences
01:27and kicking some
01:29you know
01:31metaphorical butt
01:33butt room
01:35and it kind of scared me
01:40and made me nervous
01:42but I got really excited
01:45so yeah, that's what I got attracted to
01:50and you're the pure son in the show
01:52yes, and she's a badass
01:54I can say this word, right?
01:56absolutely not
01:58they'll put dollar signs
02:00she's a goon
02:04she is someone who will take no for an answer
02:08she can't take no for an answer
02:10and she will just give it back
02:12I think I wanted to explore that side of me
02:16and that's what just made me say yes to the project
02:22so when I read the script
02:25it's not just a regular story about martial arts form basically
02:30so there was a lot to explore character wise
02:35and when I met her
02:37she was the first one that I met
02:40when we were there for a reading
02:44the way I thought of Komal to be
02:46like the angry
02:48badass
02:50and out there kind of person
02:52she was so sweet
02:54when she had to say mean things to me
02:56she would be like
02:58don't look at me like that, I can't speak
03:02so all the four of them basically
03:04the three of them
03:06I'm the fourth one
03:09I'm including myself in this
03:11that was the reason that
03:13drew me towards the show
03:17I think the beautiful thing about series is that
03:20rather than just a couple of people
03:22getting everything
03:24it's a very well rounded ensemble that happens
03:26and when that happens
03:28with a good script
03:30with everything backing the characters individually
03:32and everyone is very distinct kind of characters
03:34so you automatically like that kind of script
03:38from a slightly selfish perspective
03:40you go to your own character
03:42and you see that it is somebody
03:44who has
03:46a huge chip on his shoulder
03:48feels that he has a lot to prove
03:50feels that he has
03:52done a lot of wrong things
03:54that draws you to the script
03:58and then when you come on set
04:00and there are such lovely people here
04:02they are so mischievous
04:04don't give such false compliments
04:06I'll just say this about you
04:08you were young
04:10you have to say this in front of the media
04:20the biggest physical change was
04:22that I grew a moustache for the first time in my life
04:24and for those who know
04:26it's not possible genetically
04:28but I have a moustache and it's real
04:30but jokes apart
04:32I thought that you
04:34what really?
04:36for the first time ever
04:38think about it
04:40good growth
04:42I thought I was going to crack the bad joke
04:48I think the most beautiful thing
04:50that I have taken from JD is that
04:54it is great that he is so focused about
04:56whatever he is focused about
04:58and you see his professional growth in the show
05:00he is extremely successful
05:02but at the same time
05:04to take a lot of baggage from the past
05:06that will come and bite you
05:08so that will happen
05:10and that is something
05:12that I feel
05:14that it's great to play that kind of character
05:16because such characters
05:18exist in real life
05:20but if I had to take a lesson from it
05:22it would be that one should not be like that
05:28Abha is a lot similar to me
05:30in ways that
05:32she subjects herself
05:34to situations
05:36no one has asked her to be in
05:38she just is there
05:40for I don't know what
05:42means
05:44a lot of unnecessary
05:46validation tags
05:48especially
05:50there are a lot of people
05:52who have a relationship between a parent and a child
05:54that parents are not demanding
05:56anything from you but then
05:58it's like compelling yourself
06:00to be doing things for them
06:02and later on
06:04she herself develops
06:06aggression, passive aggression
06:08and that is what
06:10we shouldn't be
06:12towards the later part of the story
06:14she also realizes it
06:16and I hope
06:18I do too
06:22Well, what did I learn?
06:24What did I learn?
06:26This character
06:28has taught me
06:30first it was
06:32basically fully grounded on
06:34Karate, so what Karate
06:36helps, what it does, it teaches
06:38it teaches you control, discipline
06:40and well
06:42while talking about discipline
06:46I'm still working on it guys
06:50I'm liking this flow now
06:54Just to
06:56explore her
06:58just to tell
07:00through the camera
07:02and tell
07:04her story
07:06she kind of
07:08coming from a different space altogether
07:10her challenges
07:12her own
07:14you know
07:16what do you say?
07:18Turmoil
07:20and all of that
07:22kind of made me realize
07:24that okay, people do
07:28there are people who
07:30go through so much in their life
07:32and they really are
07:34working on themselves
07:36and
07:38they're like at it
07:40no matter what comes in their way
07:42and I take that
07:44with me
07:46and it kind of like
07:48Komal tells me that
07:50you can't give up
07:52you just have to be at it
07:54no matter what the challenges
07:56you know
07:58she or anybody is facing
08:00so don't give up, that's what I learnt
08:02if I made sense
08:04Yeah you did, you sure did
08:08What have I learnt?
08:10I've learnt less from my character
08:12this poor guy
08:14I've learnt a lot from his character
08:16from Komal's character
08:18how to make a face
08:20from his character
08:22how to make reels
08:24from JD's character
08:26what not to do in real life
08:28but I think
08:30along with the characters
08:32you get to learn from people
08:34when you work on set
08:36there's so much that you learn from other people
08:38there are small things
08:40maybe not on the first
08:42layer of your brain
08:44but there's so much you learn from your co-actors
08:46I think it was a very collaborative
08:48and growth oriented unit
08:50I enjoyed it a lot
08:52and as it got stuck in the middle
08:54me and Sangeeta were in turmoil
08:56how do we help each other
08:58but I think
09:00it was a great experience
09:02working with all of them
09:08Do you give a mic to Karate girls?
09:12No, actually all did
09:14he kind of knew a little bit
09:16of Karate
09:18martial arts
09:20we did one session with him
09:22and I
09:24when the first day
09:26I went to rehearse
09:28the action director looked at me
09:30and was like
09:32will she be able to do this?
09:34I'm acting frail
09:36I was like
09:38a mess as always
09:40she had a doubt in her eyes
09:42and
09:44I just told myself that I have to
09:46believe in myself
09:48keep going
09:50my punches are right
09:52my kicks are right
09:54just observing the technique
09:56properly
09:58we did a lot of
10:00rehearsals and the most tough
10:02part was
10:04the main climax
10:06where
10:08for all of us
10:10it was difficult to even shoot that bit
10:12because there was so much
10:14chaos on set
10:16and I was sweating
10:18I was red, I injured my knee
10:20my head
10:22I fall
10:24I was all over the place
10:26and we were just
10:28she was there with me
10:30calming me down and I'm calming her down
10:32we got this, we got this
10:34and it was just a wonderful
10:36experience, now I look back
10:38I said
10:40okay, it was a messy day but
10:42that's where the beauty lies
10:46and yeah
10:48it was tough, it was very
10:50very
10:52challenging
10:54and to kind of
10:56I feel responsible when it comes to
10:58where the whole
11:00story is based on this
11:02I gotta
11:04make it real
11:06portray it as natural as
11:08possible and I want people to believe
11:10that okay, she is someone
11:12who's learning but for her
11:14it was the opposite, she already
11:16knows karate a little bit
11:18so I think it was more challenging for her
11:20and my character
11:22was like
11:24I started learning karate so I had
11:26that space and that flexibility
11:28that even if it doesn't look natural
11:30and she is kind of
11:32exploring
11:34this art
11:36it got a little
11:38like I had a little advantage
11:40than Celestine
11:48to begin with, instead of starting
11:50it with the training part
11:52like I couldn't have
11:54asked for a better Komal
11:56than Ashlesha
11:58I honestly mean it because
12:00yeah because
12:04I know
12:06I know
12:08because
12:10it was very challenging for
12:12both of us and
12:14our arms were not conditioned
12:16and in scenes we were fighting with actual
12:18karate players and then we had to
12:20defend them, leave the attack
12:22it was hurting to defend
12:24all the arms, knees
12:26and there was a part
12:28when you watch the finale
12:30there was the scene
12:32where we are against each other
12:34and then I had to repeatedly kick her on the knee
12:36for a shot
12:38and after a while
12:40we are not professionals
12:42we have learned it very recently
12:44and still we try but
12:46once you keep doing it for a very long time
12:48and you are exhausted and your body has just given up
12:50your leg just goes
12:52you cannot control anything
12:54and then you are just there to finish it
12:56but when you watch the scene
12:58you wouldn't realize that
13:00she had a bruised knee
13:02she did it so well
13:04you won't be able to see it on her face
13:06hats off man
13:08she was there for me all the time on set
13:10we both were bruised and injured
13:12but I am very
13:16I didn't write it
13:18but we had one person
13:20that we hated on set
13:24that was our motivation
13:26to
13:28to like
13:30we got this
13:32where are we getting inspired from
13:36where are we getting inspired from
13:38where are we getting our information
13:40we had you know
13:42some motivation
13:44always good to have them
13:46what do you hope?
13:48protective for each other
13:50even like after
13:52when we were together for the wrap up
13:54I was looking for her
13:56so by the end of the show
13:58we four were very protective for each other
14:00and that's like a
14:02great thing that has happened to all of us
