00:00If Oprah can't save you, nobody can save you.
00:03Yes.
00:04I mean.
00:05Yeah.
00:06Yeah.
00:06If you brought, if Jesus Christ came down and said,
00:10hey Oprah, I'll take it from here.
00:12What the hell?
00:13Oh, no, I'm back.
00:14And then we leave.
00:17She, this is somebody that bailed out felons.
00:19And she's, I mean, again, she's got different rules
00:22than the people that she rules over.
00:24But, but this is the thing,
00:25and I'm going to get serious for a minute,
00:26because as a gun owner, as somebody who has a carry permit,
00:29that is the worst answer to give to that question.
00:32And this is the person that wants to take away my gun.
00:35In a spectacle that left Fox News hosts
00:38bewildered and critical,
00:39Vice President Kamala Harris participated
00:42in a star-studded virtual rally
00:44hosted by media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
00:46The event, designed to bolster Harris's campaign
00:49and appeal to voters,
00:50instead became a target for intense scrutiny and mockery
00:54from conservative commentators.
00:55The involvement of Oprah Winfrey,
00:57a cultural icon with a history
00:59of influencing public opinion,
01:01was seen by Fox News hosts
01:03as a desperate attempt to salvage Harris's image.
01:07Greg Goodfeld of The Five
01:08provided a particularly colorful assessment
01:11of the dynamics at play.
01:13But when you're watching that,
01:14you have to pay attention to Oprah's face.
01:17You saw a look of pain,
01:20like she's trying to figure out in real time,
01:22how do you manage this train wreck?
01:25It was friendly.
01:27There was no question it was friendly,
01:28but it was like she was talking to somebody
01:31that she wanted to break free from at a party,
01:34and you're sitting on the couch,
01:35and let's say your friend left you with his wife,
01:38and she might be a little drunk,
01:40and you're kind of like going,
01:41yep, okay, gotta get going.
01:43And it was all on Oprah's face.
01:46This vivid description encapsulated the host's view
01:50that even Oprah's considerable star power
01:53and interviewing skills were insufficient
01:55to overcome what they perceived as Harris's shortcomings.
01:59The rally, which featured A-list celebrities
02:01like Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Ben Stiller,
02:05was seen by Fox News hosts as an attempt
02:08to connect with voters through star power
02:11rather than substance.
02:12Ainsley Earhart of Fox & Friends didn't mince words.
02:16The truth doesn't matter.
02:17This is all propaganda, and propaganda seems to rule.
02:21And what they wanna do is take Americans' money,
02:23hardworking Americans' money,
02:25and they want to increase taxes,
02:28and they wanna take your money.
02:29And this is why the Teamsters did not endorse Kamala Harris.
02:32They all hate Donald Trump at all costs.
02:35And they bring in Hollywood, they bring in Julia Roberts,
02:38they bring in Bryan Cranston, Chris Rock, Meryl Streep.
02:41People are tired of hearing from celebrities
02:43because they're not relatable.
02:45They are the coastal elites.
02:46The hosts argued that this celebrity-driven approach
02:50highlighted the disconnect between the Harris campaign
02:53and everyday Americans struggling with economic concerns.
02:57Throughout their coverage, Fox News hosts
03:00repeatedly emphasized the economic challenges
03:03facing American families,
03:05contrasting these real-world issues
03:07with what they perceived as Harris's vague
03:10and unsatisfactory responses.
03:12Bryan Kilmeade pointed out.
03:13A new Fox News poll showing that the majority of voters
03:16believe high prices for groceries, housing, and gas
03:19are a major problem for their families.
03:22Yep, those concerns will likely be reflected
03:24in the presidential election,
03:25which I think is coming up soon.
03:27High prices rank as the most important.
03:29Why else would we put it in bold in the prompter?
03:32That's a factor driving voters to the polls this November.
03:36The hosts were particularly critical
03:38of Harris's response to a question
03:40about lowering the cost of living.
03:42Jesse Watters of The Five offered a scathing critique.
03:46So she's very easy to knuckle.
03:48She's just got a glass chin.
03:50And Oprah, I wish if I could just sit down with Oprah
03:53for like five minutes and I'd tell her how to be a journalist
03:57because she's almost there.
03:59The Fox News hosts frequently highlighted
04:01what they saw as Harris's inability
04:04to provide clear, concise answers
04:06to straightforward questions.
04:08This criticism was exemplified in their analysis
04:11of her response to a question
04:13about lowering the cost of living.
04:15Yeah, first of all, thank you both for being here.
04:18And yours is a story I hear around the country as I travel.
04:24And in terms of both rightly having the right
04:31to have aspirations and dreams and ambitions for your family
04:37and working hard and finding that the American dream
04:42is for this generation and so many recently
04:46far more elusive than it's been.
04:49And we need to deal with that.
04:50And there are a number of ways.
04:52One is bringing down the cost of everyday necessities,
04:55including groceries.
04:56Tommy Lauren, an OutKick.com host,
04:59expressed her frustration with Harris's communication style.
05:02Kamala Harris either doesn't have plans and policies,
05:06she can't recite the plans and policies given to her
05:09by whoever's constructing them,
05:11or her plans and policies are actually so bad
05:14and so unpopular that she's afraid
05:16to really explain them to the American people
05:18because it would make her unelectable.
05:20Any of those three options,
05:22unacceptable for the American people.
05:25One moment that drew particular attention
05:27was Harris's comments about gun ownership.
05:30The vice president's statement about owning a gun
05:32and her willingness to use it for self-defense
05:35sparked a flurry of discussion and criticism.
05:38The host played a clip of Harris saying,
05:40I'm a gun owner, Tim Ross is a gun owner.
05:42How's that?
05:45If somebody breaks in my house, they're getting shot.
05:48Yes, yes, I hear that, I hear that.
05:51Probably should not have said that.
05:55But my staff will deal with that later.
05:57Ainsley Earhart highlighted the apparent contradiction
06:00and the campaign's damage control efforts.
06:03At one point she said, Oprah said,
06:05I didn't realize you had a gun.
06:06And she said, absolutely, I've got a gun
06:08and if somebody comes in the house,
06:10they're gonna get shot.
06:11And then Kamala Harris said, you know what?
06:13My staff's probably gonna have to clean that up
06:15because she realized she was being honest.
06:17She was being blunt and she was telling the truth right there.
06:19She was pretending to be blunt and honest.
06:21The hosts then juxtaposed this statement
06:24with Harris's previous comments on gun control,
06:27suggesting a disconnect between her personal stance
06:30and her public policy positions.
06:32They played a clip of Harris
06:33from her time as a district attorney.
06:35Just because you legally possess a gun
06:38in the sanctity of your locked home
06:41doesn't mean that we're not gonna walk into that home
06:43and check to see if you're being responsible
06:45and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.
06:47This apparent contradiction led to further criticism
06:50from the Fox News hosts who accused Harris
06:53of flip-flopping on key issues.
06:55Ainsley Earhart suggested.
06:57I think she's trying to be more of a Republican.
07:00She's stealing a lot of Donald Trump's policies
07:03by saying no tax on tips after he said it.
07:06Now she's saying no more fracking.
07:08Now she's saying we like the wall.
07:10Now she's saying we're gonna close the border.
07:14And then she said if someone breaks into my home,
07:15you're gonna get shot.
07:18After she said mandatory buyback for your guns,
07:21I'm gonna make that a mandatory buyback program.
07:25And then she walked that back.
07:26Despite their criticisms,
07:27the Fox News hosts acknowledged the strategic thinking
07:30behind the Oprah-hosted event.
07:32Steve Doocy explained.
07:34The whole idea behind this is because Kamala Harris
07:37and Donald Trump are only gonna do the one debate.
07:40She's not really gonna do any interviews
07:43with real news people, although you made the point,
07:46or Brian, you made the point with Bill Hemmert.
07:49She used to be a reporter.
07:50She was a reporter in Baltimore.
07:53But she was there as an activist to try to prop her up
07:57because what the campaign is trying to do
07:59is they're trying to get the people who are persuadable.
08:01Right now, according to the new Fox News poll,
08:03the people who support Trump and Kamala Harris,
08:06only 1% of them are movable,
08:09but there's a tiny little sliver in the middle
08:12that are undecided, and that's why they're trying to do this.
08:15This analysis suggested that while the Fox News hosts
08:19found the event lacking in substance,
08:21they recognized its potential to reach undecided voters
08:24through nontraditional media channels.
08:26The hosts also discussed the broader implications
08:29of the event for the upcoming election.
08:31Harold Ford Jr. offered a more balanced perspective.
08:35I like hearing candidates talk specifically
08:37about national security and economic policy
08:40and tax and spend,
08:42largely because I wanna know where they stand.
08:44And then two, I think it's important for them
08:46to talk about these things
08:47because in order to have any kind of mandate to do anything,
08:51and by mandate, I mean just people understanding
08:53what you're gonna do
08:54and Congress understanding what you want,
08:55you need to talk about those things.
08:57The Fox News hosts also touched on the potential impact
09:00of the event on key voting blocks.
09:02Judge Jeanine Pirro highlighted concerns
09:04about Harris' support among certain demographics.
09:07You know those uncommitteds that showed up not to vote
09:10for Joe Biden, to vote uncommitted?
09:13They have not committed to vote for Kamala Harris.
09:15They said they have not gotten the answers that they want,
09:17and that could affect in Michigan, in Arizona,
09:21in North Carolina, in Wisconsin.
09:22As the 2024 presidential race intensifies,
09:26the Fox News coverage of Kamala Harris' Oprah-hosted event
09:30reveals the deep skepticism and criticism
09:33the vice president faces from conservative media.
09:35The hosts' reactions paint a picture of a candidate
09:38they view as out of touch with everyday Americans,
09:41relying on celebrity endorsements and vague promises
09:44rather than concrete policy proposals.
09:47Whether this star-studded approach will resonate
09:49with voters remains to be seen, but one thing is clear.
09:53Fox News will continue to scrutinize
09:55and challenge Harris' every move as the election draws near.
09:59As Tyrus from The Five bluntly put it,
10:02if Oprah can't save you, nobody can save you.
10:06The coming months will reveal
10:07whether Harris can overcome these criticisms
10:10and convince the American people that she's ready to lead,
10:13or if the Oprah effect will prove insufficient
10:16in swaying public opinion in her favor.
10:18With economic concerns at the forefront of voters' minds
10:21and questions about Harris' stance
10:23on key issues like gun control,
10:26the vice president faces an uphill battle
10:28in winning over skeptics and undecided voters alike.
10:32As the election approaches,
10:34the effectiveness of Harris' media strategy
10:36and her ability to articulate clear policy positions
10:40will be crucial in determining her political fate.
