Peter Doocy is UNHINGED as He Questions Kamala
Transcript
00:00The media, those hardcore journalists over there in the media, celebrating Vice President Kamala Harris' DNC speech,
00:06even though she avoided issues and simply focused on the vibes.
00:10You will remember where you were when you heard this speech tonight from the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
00:16This is an inflection point in history.
00:18She has this magical, charismatic quality in person.
00:22That was fierce and fearless, how she just delivered that.
00:26Party poopers, no. We legalize fun. We legalize fun.
00:30We put the party back in the Democratic Party.
00:33As the 2024 presidential election approached, the political landscape was charged with anticipation and scrutiny.
00:40At the heart of this intense atmosphere was Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy,
00:45known for his pointed questions and relentless pursuit of answers.
00:49His target, Vice President Kamala Harris, now the Democratic nominee for president.
00:54The media's glowing reception of Harris' DNC speech set the stage for a contentious period of campaigning.
01:01While some journalists praised her charisma and delivery,
01:05others, like Doocy, sought to dig deeper into her policies and past statements.
01:10Doocy's efforts to secure an interview with Harris became a recurring theme in his reports.
01:16After her DNC speech, he made a direct attempt.
01:19Madam Vice President, congratulations. Are you ready for your Fox News interview?
01:25The question went unanswered, highlighting a growing concern about Harris' accessibility to the media,
01:31particularly outlets perceived as less friendly to her campaign.
01:36This reluctance to engage with certain media outlets became a point of contention, as Doocy reported.
01:42The Chicago White Sox will win the World Series.
01:45Before you see Kamala Harris doing any interview on Fox,
01:50you will not see one press conference from her in the next 75 days until Election Day.
01:55Think of it this way. For the last five and a half years,
01:58when she ran for president in 2019 before she dropped out as vice president,
02:02and now is the nominee, she's not held one press conference.
02:05And she will never, ever do that, because still, to this day,
02:09her handlers are petrified to put her in front of Rachel Maddow or The View
02:13or even somebody like Gayle King, a pretend journalist,
02:16because they know that she can't speak extemporaneously.
02:19As the campaign progressed, Doocy focused on uncovering Harris' positions on key issues,
02:25particularly those related to immigration and law enforcement.
02:29He highlighted a questionnaire from 2019 that revealed some of Harris' more progressive stances.
02:35Vice President Harris has some explaining to do if President Trump decides to go there.
02:41For example, there is this new questionnaire that she filled out in 2019
02:45where she talks about how she wants gender transition surgeries for migrants.
02:49The exact quote is,
02:51And then there's funding cuts to ICE.
02:53Also in 2019, Harris wrote,
03:21These past statements raised questions about Harris' current positions
03:25and how they might have evolved since joining the Biden administration.
03:29As the first presidential debate approached,
03:31Doocy reported on the intense preparations underway in the Harris campaign.
03:36The Harris-Trump stand-in the last couple days at debate camp,
03:39Philippe Reines, watched old Trump debates with the sound off to get Trump's mannerisms down.
03:46And now in the mock debates, he is dressing like Trump as well, according to the New York Times.
03:51And they're practicing with these rules.
03:53Muted microphones.
03:55No live studio audience.
03:57Only a pen, a paper, and water on stage.
03:59No pre-written notes.
04:01The answers are two minutes.
04:02The rebuttals are two minutes.
04:04And the follow-ups are one minute.
04:06The debate rules, particularly the muted microphones,
04:09presented a unique challenge for Harris' team.
04:12According to Politico, the whole entire Harris debate strategy hinged
04:16on being able to fact-check him in real time.
04:20And when they have the mics muted, she's not going to be able to do that.
04:23So in Pittsburgh, they've apparently been trying to figure out
04:25how exactly she's supposed to debate when she cannot be jumping in.
04:29Fox's reporting also touched on concerns about media bias in the coverage of the candidates.
04:34One thing that was cited was a Media Research Center report
04:38that highlighted discrepancies in the tone of coverage.
04:41Peter, the Media Research Center is saying that David Moore's coverage on ABC
04:45of these two candidates, the coverage of Kamala Harris has been 100% positive
04:50and of Donald Trump, 93% negative.
04:54This raised questions about the fairness of the upcoming debate
04:57and how it might be moderated.
04:59As the debate drew near, Ducey emphasized its significance,
05:03particularly given Harris' limited media appearances.
05:07But, you know, there is such high risk but high reward on this particular event
05:12because there was one interview 10 days ago.
05:15It was kind of a, yeah.
05:17And now there's going to be one debate that we know of.
05:20He quoted an opinion piece that underscored the importance of the debate.
05:24He says, on Tuesday night, that's tonight, at the National Constitution Center in Philly,
05:28Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump will have at it for 90 minutes.
05:33Ironically, the low expectations for Ms. Harris may be an advantage.
05:38All she has to do is not humiliate herself and her performance will be hailed as a triumph.
05:44If the press corps did its job, we'd all know more about what we need to know about Kamala Harris
05:49and what kind of president she'd make.
05:51But because it won't, it's all on Donald Trump to do that job himself.
05:55Ducey's reporting on Harris took place against a backdrop of intense political maneuvering
06:00and heightened rhetoric.
06:02He highlighted the Biden administration's characterization of Trump as a threat.
06:06The rhetoric in American politics right now on both sides is hot.
06:11It's hot.
06:12But in particular, the White House, this White House, the president, the vice president,
06:18and even the press secretary have referred to Donald Trump as a threat, a threat to democracy.
06:25This language became a point of contention, especially in light of security concerns.
06:30How many more assassination attempts on Donald Trump until the president and the vice president
06:35and you pick a different word to describe Trump other than threat?
06:39The response from the White House press secretary only served to intensify the debate.
06:44Peter, if anything from this administration, I actually completely disagree with the premise of your question,
06:53the question that you're asking.
06:55It is also incredibly dangerous in the way that you're asking it because American people are watching.
07:02As the election drew closer, Ducey reported on the internal dynamics of the Harris campaign,
07:08noting the emergence of leaks.
07:10Senior White House correspondent Peter Ducey joins us now.
07:14Hey, watch it.
07:15Good morning.
07:16And we're seeing now what happens when a candidate, in this case Kamala Harris,
07:21is not surrounded by a team of longtime loyalists.
07:25And that is leaks start to come out.
07:27This is something we almost never saw from candidate Biden or President Biden.
07:31But now there's an Axios item with the title inside the tension in the Harris-Frankenstein team.
07:38The leaks revealed internal struggles within the campaign.
07:41And the problem appears to be that Obama era operatives have been jammed into an office in Wilmington
07:47full of Biden people and nobody knows who is really doing what.
07:51The story says, quote, the entanglement of these different entities has led to many people feeling a real lack of role clarity.
07:59And the source is one person involved in the campaign.
08:03As the campaign entered its final weeks, Ducey's reporting highlighted the contrast
08:08between the active campaigning of Harris and the winding down of Biden's presidency.
08:13We saw President Biden on the beach in Delaware for hours yesterday.
08:17There is very, very little going on here.
08:20And a very well-placed source who works inside told me that the general feeling among staff right now is one of senioritis.
08:29This senioritis in the White House stood in stark contrast to the high-stakes nature of the upcoming debate and the election itself.
08:37Peter Ducey's pursuit of answers from Kamala Harris and his reporting on the campaign
08:42highlighted the challenges and complexities of the 2024 presidential race.
08:47From unanswered questions about past policy positions to concerns about media access and potential bias,
08:54Ducey's work underscored the vital role of journalism in the democratic process.
08:59As the debate approached, the questions he raised remained at the forefront of public discourse,
09:05challenging both candidates to address the issues that matter most to the American people.
09:10The outcome of this high-stakes confrontation would likely shape the final weeks of the campaign and potentially the future of the nation.
09:18In the end, Ducey's persistent questioning and reporting served as a reminder of the importance of holding public figures accountable,
09:26regardless of their political affiliation.
09:28As the election drew near, the American people looked to journalists like Ducey
09:33to help them navigate the complex landscape of promises, policies, and political maneuvering
09:38that would ultimately determine the course of the country for years to come.
