00:00From Tuesday, December 17 until Friday, December 20, only 48 earthquakes were recorded in the sea, 100 kilometers north of Santa Catalina, Ilocos Sur.
00:15The magnitude was from magnitude 1.8 to magnitude 5. The strongest was magnitude 5 on December 19.
00:23The epicenter of the earthquakes was low, which happened near Manila Trench.
00:29On December 19 to 20, the histogram of PHIVOX showed 63 quakes were recorded in the same place.
00:36It's easy for those who monitor earthquakes to go there from yesterday until 6 o'clock in the morning, but...
00:42We can't assure that once the events are down, there won't be a big one or it won't happen again.
00:54PHIVOX warned about two possibilities.
00:58First, the number of earthquakes in that area will decrease after a few days.
01:02Second, it can escalate and produce a bigger earthquake that will probably create a tsunami.
01:12PHIVOX clarified that even if it's just a possibility, the tsunami scenario should be prepared.
01:18If this happens and the high tide coincides, a tsunami with a height of 2 to 3 meters may occur.
01:25If the Manila Trench moves from the coastline of Ilocos Norte to Lagpas, Batangas, the magnitude 8 or more earthquake may occur.
01:34If so, is there a possibility that Metro Manila will also be affected with its own coastline?
01:39It's possible that it will reach South Luzon, but its height is not that high compared to the northern part of Luzon.
01:48Santa Catalina LGU is monitoring their citizens.
01:52According to OCD Region 1, the Tsunami Incident Command System is ready for any possible event.
01:59We are calling on our local government units and our member agencies to always be ready to revisit our contingency plans.
02:10The Office of Civil Defense and various agencies also cooperated.
02:15To remind the public of the OCD, know if there is a Tsunami in your area.
02:21Know the area that will be evacuated and the fastest and safest route.
02:26Get used to and prepare the community for the flood.
02:30And prepare the go-bag that contains the needs of the family.
02:34For GMA Integrated News, I'm Dana Tingcung, for 24 Hours.
02:45Okay, rolling.
