00:00As 2024 comes to an end, I want to reflect on the year and also look ahead.
00:06In everything we do at the Council, we are focused on providing more opportunities for you and your family.
00:12That's why this month we set out a new plan to grow the city's economy.
00:16Growth is the route to more jobs, more money in your pocket and to more opportunities.
00:22Everyone needs a safe, secure place to call home and that's why building the homes that we need is a top priority.
00:30Over the next five years, we've set out a plan for 1,000 new Council homes and we're working to create brand new neighbourhoods.
00:38We are regenerating parts of our city, from Atticliffe to Stocks Bridge to Parkwood Springs.
00:44At Castlegate, a new park is taking shape and here, in the heart of the city's development,
00:50we've seen new places like Cambridge Street Collective, Pounds Park and Lear's Yard quickly become firm favourites.
00:57This year we've also been working hard to improve our public transport.
01:01The tram is back under public control and we're working to bring our buses back under public control too.
01:07And we showed how to put on a party with hosting the MOBO Awards.
01:11In 2025, World Snooker returns alongside Dockfest, pulp headlining tramlines and lots more.
01:18As we go into 2025, I know that it remains a difficult time for some people.
01:24We continue to work hard to provide people with support to help with the cost of living and to tackle homelessness.
01:31Despite these challenges, I am extremely optimistic about our city's future.
01:36I know that together we can continue to achieve great things and to give our city a brighter future.
01:42I wish you all a very Happy New Year.
