Karnataka/Bangalore: Archbishop Dr Peter Machado said, Christmas is a feast of joy and peace, celebrating the birth of Jesus. The angels sang, Glory to God in the highest, and peace to people of goodwill. Without peace, the true essence of Christmas cannot be realized. Peace begins with each individual—if we lack peace within, we cannot share it with others. Families, neighborhoods, states, and nations all need peace, but it requires intention and effort. True peace is not achieved through demands or conditions but through dialogue and understanding. As Pope Francis emphasizes in the concept of synodality, the key is listening—genuinely hearing others. Peace cannot be one-sided; it thrives on mutual respect and fruitful conversations. This Christmas, let us embrace the spirit of peace and take steps, however small, toward fostering harmony in our world.

00:00We are very happy to celebrate Christmas. It's a feast of joy.
00:04Also, it's a feast of peace for us.
00:06You know, at the birth of Jesus, the angels sang glory to God in the highest
00:13and peace to people of all goodwill.
00:16And so this peace, if it's missing, perhaps the Christmas is not only not enjoyable,
00:23cannot be celebrated.
00:25So therefore, we pray for peace.
00:27And our efforts for peace start, we say, starts from each person.
00:31Unless you have peace in yourself, you can't exchange peace with the others.
00:37Peace in the families, you know, the families are also much in crisis now.
00:41And unfortunately, the neighborhoods, the state, the country, and also the world,
00:46there is no peace.
00:48And in order to have peace, first of all, we have to have a good intention to make peace.
00:54If I am making conditions for peace, if I am making so many demands
00:59that you should do this, you should do that, perhaps there is not possibility.
01:04For peace, dialogue is necessary, very much necessary.
01:08And we have to see the other side, what it means.
01:11You know, the Holy Father Pope Francis, these days, we are speaking of a term called synodality.
01:17And the word synodality, the most important element of synodality is to listen.
01:23It's to listen to the other person.
01:25Listen to the other people who are listening.
01:28It's not only speaking.
01:30Perhaps peace is not possible when it is one-sided.
01:33When one side wants peace at hit conditions in your particular situations, it's not possible.
01:39It's only when we listen to the other side.
01:42When we perhaps also dialogue in a fruitful manner, peace will be possible.
01:48And so, I would be very happy if the Feast of Christmas, the Feast of Christians
01:53gives in some way initiative for peace in the world.
