00:30The plane has crashed into one of the towers of the World Trade Center.
00:49You're talking about a large passenger commercial jet.
00:52A large passenger commercial jet.
00:54The plane was slightly on its side.
00:55It came in like a spear.
00:57It just speared through the building.
00:59There was smoke. The building I was supposed to be in is on fire.
01:03Suddenly, there was a second roar that came out of the sky,
01:07and another plane barreled into the other tower.
01:13Today, we've had a national tragedy.
01:16Two airplanes have crashed into the World Trade Center.
01:21There was smoke everywhere, and people are jumping out the windows.
01:24Over there, they're jumping out the windows, I guess,
01:26because they're trying to save themselves. I don't know.
01:29There has just been a huge explosion, a cascade of sparks and fire,
01:35and I'll tell you that I can't see that second tower.
01:40September 11, 2001 changed the world forever.
01:44As we watched in horror, the terrorists attacked the World Trade Center in New York
01:48and the Pentagon.
01:51United Flight 93 was headed for Washington, D.C.
01:55Its target was the White House.
01:59If it were not for the heroic actions of a few men,
02:02such as Tom Burnett, 36, who gave his life,
02:06hundreds more would have died.
02:09applause
02:14The first person to get word that that plane was in trouble
02:19is my guest this morning
02:21when she got a telephone call from her husband.
02:26Dina Burnett, the widow, his mother with their three children,
02:31two twin girls and a younger child.
02:34Welcome her now, please, with me.
02:37applause
02:48Tell us about Tom. What kind of a man was he, Dina?
02:53He was a remarkable man.
02:55He had heartfelt compassion.
02:59He was funny.
03:02He was an intelligent man who was intuitive and analytical.
03:08He was a leader.
03:11He loved his family, and he had great faith in God.
03:15Can I get you anything?
03:18I don't want to take this flight.
03:20It just doesn't feel right leaving town right now
03:23with you not feeling well and the baby.
03:27You know what? I am going to be just fine.
03:31Wait and see.
03:36I love you, sir.
03:38I love you.
03:4160, even 100 times more.
03:46I understand he was probably one of the first
03:49to make an outside telephone call from the plane.
03:52Can you tell us about that?
03:54Yes. The children and I began our morning very early that day.
03:57It was about 6 o'clock when we woke up,
04:00and I immediately turned on the television to check the weather
04:03and saw that the World Trade Center had been hit by an airplane.
04:07And I was very concerned about Tom, knowing he was in New York City.
04:11At 6.27 that morning, a phone call came in from Tom's cell phone.
04:16Hello?
04:17And because it was on his cell phone, I thought that he was fine.
04:20And my first words to him were...
04:22It's so good to hear your voice.
04:24Dina, our plane's been hijacked. Listen to me, Dina. There's no time.
04:27And he began going into detail about what was taking place on the plane.
04:32Something's wrong.
04:34What the hell is going on back there?
04:36It's a wreck. It just happened right now.
04:41I love you. I love you. Tell the boys I love them.
04:43They told me they had knifed a guy, that there was a bomb on board.
04:47You've got to let the authorities know.
04:50I'll call you back as soon as I can.
04:52Tom?
04:59He hung up, and I called 911
05:03and was connected to the FBI.
05:05He called three other times that morning.
05:08Tom?
05:09Each phone call lasting about one minute or less.
05:11The news is saying that two planes just crashed at the Twin Towers.
05:14And he shared that information with the people around him.
05:17He began asking questions, analyzing the situation,
05:21assessing the problem, and trying to solve it.
05:23Looks like my husband's on the... Hold on. Hold on.
05:26Tom?
05:27Did you get hold of anybody?
05:28Yes, I'm on the other line with them right now.
05:30Let them know these jerks are planning to crash this plane, too.
05:33They're trying to make a plan.
05:35Baby, are you okay?
05:37We're going to have to do something soon.
05:39We're heading towards the White House, as far as we can tell.
05:42Tom! Tom!
05:46They're going to crash the plane!
05:49You've got to do something!
05:51And on the fourth phone call,
05:53he let me know that they were waiting until they were over a rural area
05:57before they were going to act.
05:59The three of us are about to make our move.
06:01You've got to know and prepare yourself.
06:04It looks like we're going to die.
06:09Don't say that.
06:11Just know that no matter what happens, I love you.
06:14Tom!
06:15I asked him if there was anything else I could do.
06:18Tom, what can I do?
06:23He said pray, dear.
06:28Pray.
06:31Pray, Dina. Pray.
06:35Tom!
06:39Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
06:42God!
06:43Thy kingdom come,
06:44thy will be done,
06:45on earth as it is in heaven.
06:51Okay, let's roll.
06:55It's over! It's over!
07:07When you heard about the plane crash, how did you hear that?
07:17The police were there.
07:19The fire department was there.
07:20The FBI was there.
07:22They were reporting another plane crash.
07:32Mr. Burnett, I have bad news.
07:35Your husband was on that plane and he died.
07:39And I turned to the policeman and asked if that was Tom's flight.
07:44And he said yes.
07:46He was killed.
07:48No!
07:51No!
07:58How did you break the news to your twin girl, six years old?
08:04A friend picked them up from school, brought them home about 5 o'clock that evening.
08:08I sat them down on the bed.
08:10What's wrong, Mommy?
08:12Where is Daddy?
08:15And we prayed that God would give us strength
08:21and allow me to answer their questions.
08:24Babies, there were some bad guys on Daddy's plane.
08:27Yeah.
08:30And they crashed it.
08:33And everybody, everybody died, honey.
08:37And Daddy, too?
08:39Yeah.
08:42And they began to cry.
08:44They knew what death meant.
08:47And they began to ask questions.
08:50They wanted to know where he was.
08:54And I told them he was in heaven with Jesus
08:57and that that was a good place to be.
09:01They asked if they could send him a letter.
09:04They asked if they could talk to him on his cell phone.
09:10And I explained to them that he was helping God now
09:16and that his work was very important
09:18and that we were here on earth to carry on God's plan for us
09:23and that someday we would see him again.
09:28What a beautiful, perfect faith.
09:31Thank you, Jesus Christ, for being his Savior and yours.
09:37Day of Miracles is not only about those
09:40who miraculously survived this horrific event, but why.
09:45The building escort, who had never missed a day of work in his entire career,
09:49suddenly comes down with a fever.
09:53What do you think you're doing?
09:56I have not missed a day of work in ten years.
10:00And I'm not about to, just because of a little fever.
10:05And besides, I have to be there when the dignitaries arrive.
10:11What do you think you're doing?
10:13Get back up here.
10:15You're in no condition to go anywhere.
10:18You can't be around others. You might be infectious.
10:21Just stay here.
10:24Day of Miracles
10:32You had been doing a Bible study now for several years at the World Trade Center.
10:37At the Bible study, a week before the tragedy,
10:42the Bible teacher was Dick Arthur.
10:44There was eight men there, and they said,
10:46What's the Bible study about, Dick?
10:48And he said, The Rapture.
10:50One of the men that were young said, I'm ready to go.
10:54And the other four were older, my age, and had grandchildren.
10:58The four that said they were ready to go died.
11:01He gathered them together, and he told them,
11:04If you accept Jesus as your Savior, you'll be in heaven in a few minutes.
11:09How do you know this?
11:10Because after they accepted Christ, he told them to call their families.
11:15In the moments remaining, go to the phones, call your dear ones.
11:18Don't be afraid until your dear ones be not afraid, and not to sorrow,
11:22for we go to a glorious reunion with our Creator.
11:26The timing of these prayers is particularly important and dear to God,
11:31because this morning will be remembered by millions to the entire United States
11:36as one of the disasters of all time.
11:41Hi, I'm Cal Bramer.
11:43For many people, prayer is a personal conversation with God,
11:47a plea for God's help in making something they're desperately wishing for come true.
11:52And for many of those same people, prayer is often a last resort when tragedy strikes.
11:58Few of us know what it is to cry to God from the depths of our hearts
12:01when all else has failed, and to hear God answer.
12:05And often, it takes a terrible tragedy to bring people to a belief in the power of prayer.
12:11One person who lived through tragedy and cried out to God in prayer is Janelle Guzman.
12:20My whole life just flashed right before me.
12:27I knew to myself, I honestly felt that I wasn't going to get out alive.
12:35I knew exactly where I was going, and I was going to hell,
12:40because I knew I wasn't right with God at that time.
12:44Janelle Guzman lived life on the wild side.
12:47She would be the first to admit it.
12:49I love to party, love dancing, love dressing up sexy, going out there,
12:55you know, being the center of attraction.
12:58In fact, the morning of September 11,
13:01In fact, the morning of September 11,
13:03little did she know, her life was about to change forever.
13:08Without any warning, the building just started to shake.
13:12And I wasn't really scared at that time, because I thought it probably was an earthquake.
13:17So I just stood there, not moving, I just stood there and waited until it finally stopped.
13:23And when it did stop, I just went over to the window,
13:27and I saw bits of debris and stuff falling down.
13:31Once she found out that Tower One had been hit by a plane,
13:34she started running down the 64 flights of stairs.
13:37I stopped on the 13th floor, and without a warning,
13:43or a sign or anything at all, I just felt an explosion,
13:48and the place went completely dark and dusty.
13:54I was feeling so helpless.
13:56I couldn't move, so I just stood there, facedown,
14:00with the thought that I'm going to die, this is it, this is it for me.
14:06Janelle was trapped and buried alive under the rubble of the collapsed tower.
14:10I thought I was dreaming.
14:12When I woke up, I was like spitting out dust, and I said,
14:16oh my gosh, this is not a dream, this is really happening, this is real.
14:22And still, I didn't pray.
14:25Unable to move and hardly able to breathe,
14:28she knew she was dying, and there was only one place for her to turn.
14:33And then my whole denial just changed right there and then,
14:37and I said, God, I don't want to die.
14:41Give me that second chance.
14:43Save my life, I need to be with my family.
14:48Under the fallen building, alone and exhausted,
14:52Janelle began talking to God in a way that was entirely new to her.
14:57I just take a deep breath, and I said to myself,
15:00oh God, give me the strength to pull my head out from the concrete pillar.
15:05I just pulled it with all my might, and I just yank it out,
15:10and I could feel it here, and my head is ripped out.
15:15But I was feeling this burning sensation in my heart,
15:18and I was really wanting for him to hear me.
15:22Janelle wondered if she would get out alive,
15:25and she turned to God in desperation.
15:27I was asking him for a miracle.
15:30I was there, and I was just giving my all to him,
15:34and I was saying, God, you can do miracles.
15:37I heard that you'd done it before.
15:39Why can't you show me a miracle today?
15:41Show me a sign, show me that you hear me.
15:44I'm calling all out to you, and just answer me.
15:48Sometimes we underestimate the power of prayer.
15:53Give me meaning in my life.
15:56On this particular morning, there were hundreds of prayers heard and answered,
16:01and hundreds of prayers since then.
16:04Janelle was caught in the middle of the crashing towers
16:07and prayed for God to help her.
16:09The next day, she was the only one found alive.
16:12When they rescued her, she was found standing up,
16:15asleep.
16:19Janelle didn't know who was with her,
16:22but his presence was calming.
16:25I felt the person said, Janelle, I got you.
16:29My name is Paul.
16:31I had a smile on my face, and I just said, thank God.
16:35And I kind of drifted out of sleep, and then I wake up very fast,
16:39and I tried to look at the person to see his face,
16:43because he was still holding my hand, and he said,
16:45you're all right, they're going to get you out of here, hold on.
16:48I'm going to hold your hand through it all until the guys get here.
16:52After being buried for 27 hours,
16:55Janelle Guzman was conscious when she was pulled from the rubble.
16:58She was the last survivor rescued, taken to the hospital.
17:01Her first request was to meet and to thank Paul.
17:05So which one of you held my hand?
17:08They didn't hold my hand.
17:10No one was holding my hand, talking with me.
17:13They said no, no one on the team was named Paul that day.
17:18Even the firemen that rescued Janelle said there was no Paul on their team.
17:24Convinced that she saw an angel, Janelle knew she had to change her life.
17:29And when I saw Roger, and he came to my bedside,
17:32I said, honey, we have to change.
17:34We have to get control of our life and be right with God.
17:38I can't go back to live with you, you know, not being married.
17:43Roger agreed, knowing in his heart that only God could have saved Janelle's life.
17:48He was more than willing to live differently, and they were married in June of 2002.
17:54Now instead of looking forward to weekends of wild partying,
17:57their first priority is their relationship with God.
18:01I really believe that there's no way anything or anybody
18:05is going to come between my family, as far as Janelle, my wife, and I are concerned,
18:10because of that center foundation that we have that is so strong, which is God.
18:16Today Janelle is able to walk along the streets of Ground Zero
18:19and realize she doesn't need a tragedy to motivate her to pray.
18:23Instead, she relies on daily prayer to help her in all areas of her life.
18:28I know prayer is the answer to all things.
18:31When we think it's impossible for things to happen, prayer beats it all.
18:38Janelle Desmond-McMillan believes it was prayer that kept her alive
18:42through the worst terrorist attack the U.S. has ever seen,
18:45and she knows now that God hears and answers our prayers.
18:53She is lucky to be alive. She is one of the survivors of the Twin Towers.
18:59What were you doing in the Twin Towers on September 11th?
19:02Well, it was my first time actually there.
19:04I was visiting one of my really good friends from college,
19:07and she had just gotten a job as a trader at Canner Fitzgerald,
19:12and we had breakfast at Wild Blue, you know, attached to windows of the world,
19:17and really moments before I had said my goodbyes to Stacy
19:24and headed down the elevator, and the elevator just started shaking a lot.
19:29There was really, the sound was unbearable,
19:32and I didn't really have any concept of what was happening.
19:37It just happened so fast that I really didn't get a chance
19:41to analyze it too much at that moment, but...
19:44When did you first realize there was an airplane that had crashed into the building?
19:48Not until after, later after I was revived.
19:52There was a lot of debris and it kind of scratched and clawed my way out.
19:57You know, it was covered in soot,
20:03and there was a man in the elevator with me,
20:07and he didn't make it out.
20:15I don't understand. I'm only going to be gone for the day,
20:18and what's bothering you?
20:21I just really don't have a good feeling about this trip.
20:25Besides, you promised me that you'd never travel without me again.
20:28I know I promised, but I can't help it.
20:31They have an emergency meeting, and I've got to be there, so I can't help that,
20:35but hey, I feel great. I've never felt better.
20:38And the heart, I haven't had any problems with it for a long time,
20:41and if I need it, I've got medicine I can take with me, which I am.
20:45And I've got the little, you know, the little phone.
20:50Can you hear me? Yes.
20:53So it's important that you know that I'm there, and I will always be with you.
20:57All right. Well, you promised me a really big wedding.
21:00I promise you a big wedding.
21:02Will you get a tux while you're in New York?
21:04And I promise I'll get a tux.
21:06Oh, good.
21:09Come here.
21:16That should keep you safe.
21:19You know, I love you very much.
21:22You're my whole world. I don't know what I'd do without you.
21:26You just wouldn't.
21:28No.
21:31Go, you've got a plane to catch.
21:33All right, you, I'll call you. Bye-bye.
21:37Bye, baby.
21:45I see a light.
21:50I see a light.
22:02And with the help of some paramedics and real heroes as far as it goes,
22:10I remember kind of looking down, and the paramedics were trying to resuscitate me,
22:16and I could see myself, and I'm thinking, why are they working so hard?
22:20I feel fine.
22:22I was watching it all happening, and I didn't feel any physical pain at that time,
22:29although I know I was in pain as I was trying to get out, but I was just praying.
22:32I was a silent observer, and I remember hearing them pronouncing me dead.
22:37You know, she's gone.
22:39I didn't feel much of anything other than just kind of peace,
22:43and as I kind of felt my, I guess, more ethereal or my spirit going and watching this all happen
22:50and them working so hard and me not being in pain,
22:54and then I felt a lot of light and love around me.
23:02Also, you know, my grandparents who had passed when I was young,
23:06I saw them, and it was almost like I was coming home,
23:12and there was an angel, and I felt very small next to him.
23:16You know, it seemed I had no sense of time or space.
23:20It was really strange and beautiful.
23:25You know, it was a real feeling of peace and universal love.
23:31It was just warm.
23:34I remember saying, Lord, I'm here.
23:38If you want me, take me,
23:41and it seemed as if no sooner than that he was sending me back
23:47and leading me into service there,
23:51and I was surrounded by spirits of those that I love,
23:56and I felt so safe, and when I came back into my body,
24:01it was, how can I say, it was like I was plunged into a pool of ice.
24:11Oh, my God.
24:13She's back!
24:15It's a miracle!
24:16She's back!
24:18For moments, no where I was or really how I got there,
24:22and it was, I didn't necessarily want to be back at that moment.
24:28I feel really blessed and fortunate,
24:31and I think that, you know,
24:37I'm just trying to share that with others and see how I can help.
24:42I know that it wasn't my time,
24:46and I know that now.
24:49I'm not afraid of death at all anymore.
24:52Thinking about it before and seeing others that have gone before me,
24:55but now I have a sense of peace and knowing,
24:58or at least getting a glimpse of the feeling of what they're experiencing,
25:05but there's so much to do here.
25:08So many women lost their husbands,
25:11and so many children lost their parents,
25:15and, well, that's, you know, everybody needs some comfort.
25:20The people who survived, we have a lot to be thankful for,
25:27and I hope that, you know, I feel good about being able to help those that did survive
25:34because there's so much grief, you know,
25:37but there were so many miracles that happened that day, too.
25:41Amber, the young businesswoman who was trapped in the elevator
25:44when power went out of the tower.
25:50Somehow, she escaped the elevator
25:52only to find herself on a terrifying long journey to safety.
25:58Oh!
26:03I see a light.
26:28Oh!
26:39Oh!
26:42Oh!
26:45Oh!
26:54Nuclear reflex.
26:59Nuclear reflex.
27:08When she was taken to the ambulance, she died.
27:12She left her body and found herself in heaven.
27:30God told her to go back to Earth to help those still in need.
27:34She was guided by a beautiful, angelic being.
27:43Oh!
27:47Oh, my God!
27:48She's back!
27:49It's a miracle!
27:50She's back!
27:54You're my glory
27:59and the lifter of my head.
28:08We have assembled in this room the leaders of the armed forces,
28:12all of the armed forces.
28:15And before us, we see four beautiful windows
28:20developed and designed by a gifted artist
28:24from Fredericksburg, Texas.
28:29Windows that symbolize what our country is all about.
28:33Countrymen who had read the Psalms
28:35as they gathered together in their houses of worship
28:38from the 13 colonies.
28:41Embracend on these windows are the words
28:44that every uniformed member
28:47and every Department of Defense civilian says
28:51as an oath of office.
28:53I will support and defend.
28:57How can I support and defend
28:59the Constitution of the United States?
29:04By the help of God.
29:09It's fitting that this flag will serve as a powerful reminder
29:14of the bond between freedom
29:16and those who are willing to fight for freedom.
29:20We shall not forget the sacrifices of those Americans
29:23who died in the service of their country,
29:26whether it was here in this very place
29:29or in New York City
29:31or in Afghanistan
29:33or in Iraq
29:35or all the other sacrifices that people have made
29:39in the name of freedom of this nation.
29:42Mr. Speaker, we thank you for the gift
29:44of this very special flag.
29:47We thank the gifted designer
29:49and I might add most generous donor
29:52of these magnificent windows,
29:55Mr. Dennis Roberts,
29:57for helping to create a place of beauty
30:00and a place of peace.
30:02Thank you very much.

30:08Psalm 147 verses 1 through 6.
30:12Praise the Lord.
30:14How good it is to sing praises to our God.
30:17How pleasant and fitting to praise him.
30:20The Lord builds up Jerusalem,
30:22gathers the exiles of Israel.
30:24He heals the brokenhearted
30:26and binds up their wounds.
30:28He determines the number of the stars
30:30and calls each of them by name.
30:33Great is our Lord and mighty in power.
30:35His understanding has no limit.
30:37The Lord sustains the humble
30:40but casts wicked to the ground.
30:43And the leaves of the tree
30:45are for the healing of the nations.
30:47No longer will there be any curse.
30:49The throne of God and of the Lamb
30:51will be in the city
30:52and his servants will serve him.
30:54They will see his face
30:56and his name will be on their foreheads.
30:58There will be no more nights.
31:06Day of Miracles is not only about those
31:08who miraculously survived this horrific event,
31:11but why?
31:18Because this morning will be remembered
31:20by millions to the entire United States
31:23as one of the disasters of all time.
31:29Okay, ladies and gentlemen,
31:30turn the page over one more page.
31:34Then look at item number three
31:36and then we'll continue to compare
31:38with the chart.
31:40Turn it over and we'll start with item number one.
31:42Excuse me, Carl.
31:45Item number three.
31:51What?
31:56Captain, assemble the joint chiefs.
31:58This is the help desk for the military.
32:00Yes, sir.
32:02This is the military.
32:04This is the military.
32:06This is the military.
32:08This is the military.
32:10This is the military.
32:12This is the military.
32:13and assemble the Joint Chiefs.
32:16Ladies and gentlemen, an aircraft
32:17had just crashed in at the World Trade Center.
32:20Run the monitor.
32:25We might be under attack.
32:27Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute.
32:30We don't know that yet.
32:32God help us.
32:33God help us.
32:34Oh my God, oh my God, a plane just crashed into the towers.
32:43What?
32:43What should I do?
32:44All right, look, calm down.
32:45Get the sec def on the line, do you understand?
32:48Go, go.
32:49Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go
33:19.
33:49The heroes at the Pentagon were members of the military, emergency civilians, and others
34:11at the scene, including Defense Minister Donald Rumsfeld.
34:15They all reacted so rapidly that many were saved who might otherwise have died.
34:22One of the burned victims has miraculously recovered after enduring over 30 surgeries.
34:29The Pentagon is the personified symbol of the nation's commitment and determination
34:34to defend the highest principles of the United States Constitution.
35:04Let freedom ring, let freedom ring to every corner of the world.
35:35Let freedom ring, let freedom ring to every corner of the world.
36:02Let freedom ring, let freedom ring to every corner of the world.
36:32Let freedom ring, let freedom ring to every corner of the world.
37:02And it's just amazing.
37:04Then, all of a sudden, I heard Red's voice, and he's talking to me, and I thought I was gone.
37:12I really thought I was gone when I heard his voice.
37:17For some reason, I knew he was going to be the one that was going to get me out.
37:21To me, at least, it was a relief to know there was someone alive down there.
37:25But, you know, you feel so helpless.
37:29I mean, this is your job is to go out and, you know, try and protect people.
37:32But, you know, against this kind of destruction, there's nothing you can do.
37:37No way you can go through this and not have a tremendous amount of love and respect.
37:44I really didn't think I was going to be able to get him out.
37:47So, you know, thinking back about it now, it's pretty amazing.
37:55I mean, the hole that I was talking to him through was only, you know, maybe 8 or 10 inches to begin with,
38:02and we really had to bust it open quite a bit.
38:05I had no idea. I just kept talking to him and trying to encourage him.
38:12Here we are a week later, and I was, you know, it was jagged sharp all the way through the rubble field.
38:21There was, you know, bits of steel, and, you know, you really couldn't make your way one way or the other.
38:28And I saw one area that looked like a little bit of a pyramid of a shape,
38:35and I thought, you know, it looked like there might be something there.
38:38And I got closer, and I realized that there was an air pocket.
38:42There was a hole, you know, again, maybe 8 or 10 inches.
38:45And I called down there.
38:48As soon as I found it, I thought, there's got to be someone down there.
38:52And, you know, and suddenly he called back, and I said, you know, who are you?
38:56He said, you know, what's your name?
38:58I was just trying to, you know, find out who it was, and he said he was a cop.
39:03And I was like, boy, that just really made me feel good.
39:08And to serve is who we are.
39:13To stand in the gap so that God will prevail.
39:18And with honor and truth, we'll be here for you.
39:24We're the men and we're the women.
39:27Within that first few hours, it was hectic there.
39:31And there was really no resources at the time.
39:36But I did see one fireman probably 100 yards away, and he had a sledgehammer.
39:43And I asked him if he could come over.
39:46I said I thought I had someone trapped.
39:48And we weren't really finding that many people.
39:50So we came over with a sledgehammer, and we started busting open this hole from about 8 to 10 inches.
39:55And we got it up to about maybe 15 inches, maybe 17 inches.
39:59And that was enough to start making an effort to get him out.
40:03For this is our calling.
40:08And we know that the war rages on.
40:13So we go, we go on because.
40:18Before we did, we asked if he was okay.
40:20Did he have any broken bones or anything?
40:22And apparently his legs were hurting.
40:24Very much.
40:25So, you know, it was just, I didn't know if we were even going to be able to get him out.
40:29I didn't know if he was, you know, trapped or anything because he kept saying he couldn't feel his legs too well.
40:36I didn't know if it was, you know, was he just losing his circulation or was his legs crushed?
40:45I can't understand why that out of all this death and destruction, I was able to come out.
40:56That I, I can't, I can't understand why I lived and so many other people didn't.
41:04The only thing I can say is for some reason, I think the Lord has something he wants me to do.
41:11And I'm on a quest to find out what that is.
41:14I want to know.
41:26The two police officers were trapped in a pyramid-like cave that had very little air.
41:32We've got two people down here.
41:35One of them had his legs crushed underneath a huge piece of cement.
41:39Officer down.
41:41Officer down here.
41:52Oh, yeah, yeah.
41:55It's all the crits, dude.
41:57I can't believe it.
42:05Ow!
42:07Because of the lack of air, they both experienced surreal feelings.
42:11And the officer had a vision of Christ bringing him water.
42:54I tell you the truth, today he will be with me in paradise.
43:21Then there was the newlywed.
43:23Sujo John of Teaneck, New Jersey, started his new position in April 2001 with high expectations.
43:31He had an excellent sales job with a firm in the World Trade Center.
43:35I work at the World Trade Center on the 81st floor of World Trade 1.
43:40I just barely, you know, got on my seat when this loud explosion goes off.
43:45One part of our office caught on flames, and there were small flames all through.
43:49There were shrieks, and then a manager asked us to calm down and said we should all head to the stairwell.
43:58We thought that the worst was over, and everyone was saying, stay calm.
44:02And so from every floor, people were rushing into the stairwell.
44:05And I began the descent with a very heavy heart, very heavy, because my wife was in the hospital.
44:12Because my wife works in World Trade, too.
44:15Sujo made frantic cell phone calls to his wife without success.
44:20About the 40th floor, that's when I saw all these firemen and cops coming up.
44:25There were hundreds of them climbing up, and we all said, God be with you, our prayers are with you.
44:29At some point during Sujo's 40-minute descent from the 81st floor, another explosion rocked the building.
44:36Sujo had no idea a second plane had just flown into World Trade Center No. 2.
44:44Because Mary's subway train arrived just moments after the second jet had crashed into the World Trade Center No. 2,
44:51she was never allowed to enter the building.
44:53She spent all of that morning calling out to God to protect her husband, Sujo.
44:59When Sujo and thousands of others finally reached the lowest level of Tower 1,
45:04rescue workers directed them across the mall that connects the two buildings
45:08and pointed them to the exit at World Trade Center No. 2.
45:12I had a few people in front of me and around me, and there were thousands behind me, or hundreds, I'm not sure.
45:18That's when the whole World Trade 2 collapses.
45:20I'm sure the Holy Spirit led me to the wall of World Trade 2, the wall on the lower level.
45:28And we were huddled, men and women, I think there were 12, 13 of us, we were huddled together.
45:32You fell on the ground, you were huddled in a group.
45:34I had no faint of hope that I was going to live.
45:38So I knew that if I was going to die, I'm going to heaven.
45:41But, like, I wanted the others to make it to heaven, so I said,
45:44only Jesus can save, start saying Jesus.
45:47Start, you know, start taking the name of Jesus.
45:50All of them, I told them, each one of them, start taking the name of Jesus.
45:53Start taking the name of Jesus.
45:54It's only the name of Jesus that can save us.
45:56And by saving us, I didn't mean, you know, we're going to get out of that situation,
46:00I meant eternity, heaven or hell.
46:02We just faced everyone there.
46:04And I could hear them cry Jesus behind me, you know, repeating the name of Jesus.
46:10You know, I could hear that for at least three, four minutes.
46:13Surrounded in darkness, he thought he had been buried alive
46:16as he pulled himself up out of two feet of gritty dust.
46:19Choking on the ash and flying debris, Sujo was walking blind.
46:31It's not your time yet. Don't give up.
46:48So I picked him up and said, I said, do you know Jesus?
46:52Do you know Jesus?
46:53He said, yes, Jesus, Jesus.
46:55I said, start saying Jesus.
46:56A flashing red light from a crushed ambulance directed the two men to safety.
47:01They walked out of the debris field together, saying the name of Jesus through the darkness.
47:07They found one other man alive as they stumbled out of that cloud of death.
47:17Here's your phone.
47:18Sir, this phone isn't working.
47:19My wife, she's on the 71st floor. It's not possible she's going to make it.
47:23Well, let's try your phone.
47:27I think I've got something here.
47:31Oh, my God. Is that you, honey?
47:33I've been trying you all day.
47:35I've called so many times, I couldn't get through.
47:40I'm so glad that you're alive.
47:42You know, I tried to go in to search for you,
47:45but this kind woman pulled me out and said I needed to think about the baby.
47:52Hours later, his cell phone rang, and he ran as fast as he could to the New Jersey ferry.
47:58I saw my wife. I saw my wife next to Jacob Javits.
48:03They're just waiting for me.
48:05And we couldn't believe it.
48:07Because both of us had given hope that we would ever see each other.
48:10I had absolutely no hope that I would be alive in the first place.
48:13The second place that I would ever see my wife.
48:16Same with her.
48:17And then we see each other.
48:19We hug each other as if, like, this is not real.
48:23This story is not just about those who died,
48:26but also about those whose lives will be changed forever.
48:31It's given me a wonderful opportunity to share my faith and the faith that Tom had.
48:39And I think if anything positive and wonderful can come from a tragic and horrid situation,
48:47then it is the fact that we can, in the midst of a tragedy,
48:52find God and the strength that He can give us
48:57and know that if we trust in Him,
49:02then we'll be just fine.
49:04I know prayer is the answer to all things.
49:07When we think it's impossible for things to happen,
49:11prayer beats it all.
49:13If you know Jesus, that's all the name you need to take.
49:16That name is so powerful.
49:18It's more powerful.
49:19It's like I can't compare it to any other name.
49:21It's like if the enemy thought that the bomb was powerful or that plane was powerful,
49:25oh my God, just this name, Jesus,
49:27that's more powerful than any scheme of the evil one.
49:31At this hour, Sujo and Mary are so grateful to the Lord for life,
49:36for their love, for the simple joy of having each other and a baby on the way.
49:42But in their joy is a deep sense of loss.
49:46I'm happy in a way that my wife and I are alive and, you know,
49:49and my families and our families are not going through what
49:52thousands upon thousands of families are going through in this country.
49:56But the only thing that keeps coming to mind day in, day out,
49:59like the last two days, has been like those innocent firemen,
50:02those policemen, all the volunteers,
50:05they had no reason to be in that building.
50:07They just came up through the doors of those buildings
50:10just to save people like us.
50:13And today, they are not in their homes.
50:15Their loved ones have no clue where they are.
50:18They're frantically running all over the hospitals in Manhattan,
50:22you know, trying to reach, trying to reach, you know,
50:24trying to see the face of their loved one.
50:27And some of them are never even going to get their bodies.
50:30That thought just breaks my heart.
50:32As we look over the landscape of Lower Manhattan,
50:35we're torn between the incredible stories of God's deliverance
50:39and the tragic stories of unimaginable grief.
50:42The Word of God tells us to rejoice with those who are rejoicing
50:46and weep with those who are weeping.
50:49This is an hour when we will certainly do both.
50:53What is also certain but unseen is the rejoicing voices in heaven
50:58of those 12 people who huddled with Sujo John
51:02as the World Trade Center Tower No. 2 collapsed.
51:06Their names are unknown to us, but not to Jesus the Christ.
51:11With their last breath, they called upon His name,
51:16the only name under heaven that has the power over eternity.
51:21Over 90% of the Tabernacle Choir were miraculously absent
51:25from their offices in the World Trade Center on 9-11.
