00:00Well, we're in the final hours of the Sydney Fish Market Marathon, and already more than
00:06100,000 people have come through, and their retailers are expecting thousands more.
00:12All up, there's about 350 tons of seafood expected to be sold, as well as 120 tons of
00:19just prawns alone, clearly a popular item, but perhaps not quite as popular as oysters.
00:25There's estimated to be about 70,000 dozen oysters sold, well into the hundreds of thousands
00:31as a grand total.
00:33The day represents a crucial one for seafood retailers in Sydney, who have brought in produce
00:38from all around Australia.
00:39Indeed, the trade will be into the millions of dollars in its volume.
00:44It started yesterday morning at 5am, proceeded all the way through the evening, through the
00:49midnight and early hours, and now into the afternoon here.
00:53As it wraps up, people are reminded that Christmas is just getting that little bit
00:57closer, and there is excitement abound.
01:00It just keeps getting bigger and bigger each year, and better, just the atmosphere, people
01:05just love coming down at this time of the year.
01:08You know what strikes me, is it's such a chaotic and frenetic place, but everyone's smiling,
01:12no one looks.
01:13That's right, that's right, it brings a lot of happiness to people.
01:16The atmosphere and the real buzz about, you know, waiting for the seafood and finally
01:22having it and enjoying it on the table.
01:25With all the seafood now bought, it's just a matter of how people decide to cook it up
01:29come Christmas Day, and of course, the leftovers in the days after.
