00:00The AFP wants to buy a missile system to defend our Exclusive Economic Zone.
00:06And one of the things they're looking for is the American Typhoon Missile Launcher.
00:11But now, China is acting up.
00:13Witness, Chino Gaston.
00:17Aside from ships, airplanes, unmanned aerial vehicles, and radar systems,
00:23the AFP wants to buy a missile system to defend our Exclusive Economic Zone.
00:29We'll be proposing to our headquarters for the possible inclusion in the modernization program
00:35of the medium-range capability missile platform that will support our contribution to the implementation of CAT-C.
00:47It's still far from the ground. The defense should have already started.
00:50According to the source of GMA News in the Department of National Defense,
00:53the purchase of missiles will surely be included in the AFP modernization program.
00:58The problem is, what kind of missile system will they buy?
01:01Because China will surely buy any missile system that can reach the coastline of Southern China.
01:09One of the possible platforms they're looking for is the U.S. Typhoon Missile Launcher System
01:14that has been used several times by the U.S. and the Philippines
01:18and is still deployed in Northern Luzon.
01:21In a statement, China warned that the possible origin of their arms race
01:26if the Philippines buys the U.S. Typhoon Missile System.
01:30What the region needs is peace and prosperity, not chaos or arms.
01:36They again urged the Philippines to fulfill the promise to remove the Typhoon Missile System
01:42and correct the mistake.
01:44In a statement, Defense Secretary Gilberto Tedoro Jr. said
01:48that the deployment and purchase of missiles is the right of the Philippines
01:52for its own security and defense and cannot be opposed by any country.
01:57If China really wants to ease tensions in the region,
02:01it should stop threats, coercion, asking for information,
02:05and remove their ships from the EEZ of the Philippines.
02:10For GMA Integrated News, who is your guest?
02:15Some shoppers are already buying ready-made desserts
02:18to avoid the pandemic this Christmas Eve.
02:21And of course, the star of some of them is the lechon.
02:25Witness, Bernadette Reyes.
02:31Like the past few years, lechon stores in Laloma and Quezon City are instant hits.
02:36The line of golden crispy lechon does not last long and can be bought immediately.
02:42It's not that expensive.
02:43Although, lechon is a bit expensive,
02:46but the price is still the same.
02:48We still have around 8,000 to 10,000 lechon.
02:53To eat 25 lechons, you need lechon.
02:56But DOH reminds us to be careful when eating fat foods like lechon.
03:02Even if there are a lot of ingredients, our diet should still be balanced.
03:07Our cramping should be half fruits and vegetables,
03:10one-fourth carbohydrates or rice and pancit,
03:14and one-fourth lechon, ham, etc.
03:17Of course, if lechon is the main dish in Noche Buena,
03:20a lot of people are also preparing for the Christmas Eve.
03:23Some chose to buy ready-made desserts to avoid the pandemic.
03:28In this trending lechon store here in Sampaloc, Manila,
03:32even though it's Noche Buena,
03:34a lot of people are still in a hurry to buy their ready-made lechon.
03:37It's more delicious and bigger.
03:40I'm busy. I have a lot of work. I just have a chance now.
03:43They should just refrigerate it.
03:44They should not be together when the time comes,
03:48because there are really a lot of people.
03:50There are also people who choose the simpler one.
03:53For example, the 87-year-old Presentacion Bayaras,
03:58she prepared bread and hot chocolate.
04:00I'm used to it. You have to adjust.
04:02You have to accept how we are in life.
04:05For GMA Integrated News, Bernadette Reyes is your witness.
04:1165% of Filipinos said that they are happy to celebrate Christmas this year, 2024.
04:18And that's based on the SWS survey.
04:20That's lower than last year.
04:24We asked our fellow Filipinos,
04:26is Christmas happy for you?
04:28From Manila Cathedral in Silat,
04:31this is Von Aguino.
04:33Von?
04:38Despite the bad weather,
04:40a lot of Catholics still came to the Christmas Eve Mass here in Manila Cathedral.
04:50The church is full and even outside,
04:52there are people praying to be able to attend the Mass in Degalio.
04:56In his homily given by Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Adelincola,
05:00Our Lord Jesus Christ gives hope and strength to us despite the challenges in life.
05:07Jesus, who was born in the world, has a name and a family,
05:11is not far from us and we are with him on our journey.
05:15The Christmas Eve Mass is even more special because tonight in Rome,
05:20Pope Francis will formally open the 2025 Jubilee
05:24through the opening of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter
05:28with the theme of Pilgrims of Hope.
05:31Without Jesus, there is no hope.
05:37His love makes us stronger to face all life's difficulties.
05:45His hope will not disappoint us.
05:51Let us start our journey together as Pilgrims of Hope.
06:00Merry Christmas to all of you.
06:02Merry Christmas to all of us. Amen.
06:07It's fun, meaningful, especially for us Filipinos
06:12because we are with our family when we attend the Mass
06:16and we remember the birth of Jesus.
06:19As Filipinos, when it rains, it's a blessing for us.
06:22So like the birth of Christ, I think it's a blessing for us.
06:27We asked our fellow Pilgrims online if they are happy this Christmas.
06:31One replied, she is happy because there are many blessings in her life because of the Lord.
06:36Another one is happy even though she is not ready,
06:39as long as all the members of the family are strong and active.
06:42Another one is not happy because she has not celebrated Christmas in the Philippines for 8 years.
06:48Another one commented, it's just right because even though she is not ready, she has a feast.
06:53And another one replied, even though the family is not ready or complete,
06:58the true symbol of Christmas is love, giving, forgiveness, and thanksgiving to God.
07:05I am very happy. Our family is complete.
07:09It's my first time to celebrate Christmas here.
07:11It's still raining. I am happy that I have the opportunity to work here.
07:17It's a bit sad.
07:18Why?
07:19A lot of things are happening.
07:22I hope that by 2025, I will be able to overcome everything.
07:29Pia, the Christmas Day Masses here in Manila Cathedral will be held at 8am, 10am, 4pm, and 6pm.
07:37Merry Christmas to you, Pia!
07:38And live from Manila for GMA Integrated News, I am Bona Kinong, your witness.
