Did you catch the subtle hint at Nick Fury not being on Earth in Far From Home?
Transcript
00:00From largely overlooked throwaway lines hinting at a character's eventual fate,
00:05to those blink-and-you'll-miss-them shots that secretly let you know someone had cheated death before an end credits scene.
00:13And thanks to the eagle-eyed legends at rMovieDetails,
00:16these are even more of those fantastic and easily missed moments of movie foreshadowing
00:22that will leave you nodding your head approvingly.
00:25Because I am Gareth here from WhatCulture.com, and here are 10 more movies with ridiculously subtle foreshadowing.
00:32Number 10, Nick Fury's Earthline hints at the Skrull within Spider-Man Far From Home.
00:37It was eventually revealed in the end credits scene that followed J. Jonah Jameson's Peter Parker mic drop
00:43that the Nick Fury fans had been watching throughout Spider-Man Far From Home
00:48was actually the Skrull Talos all along, with Fury being off-world.
00:53However, there was a rather brilliant clue that hinted at this not being the real Fury on screen
00:58during the events of the second solo Spidey MCU outing.
01:01Back when Parker meets Quentin Beck for the first time in Venice inside a secret base,
01:06the young Avenger is informed by Fury that Mysterio apparently isn't actually from his world.
01:12But it's the way the eye-patched icon delivers that revelation that acts as a subtle piece of foreshadowing.
01:18His line of, Mr. Beck is from Earth, just not yours, may not have felt that weird during a first watch.
01:24However, the fact Fury didn't opt for the word hours when talking about this spinning ball of chaos
01:30suggested pretty early on that this wasn't actually the bloke who brought the Avengers together at all.
01:35But I've got a quick question for you, what's your favourite MCU end credits scene?
01:40Was it the Nick Fury Skrull reveal or something else? Let me know in the comments section right down below this video.
01:46Number nine, the clothes the four visitors wear foreshadow their part in the apocalypse, Knock at the Cabin.
01:52Rudely interrupting Eric, Andrew and Wen's family vacation in the woods,
01:56four mysterious figures break into a cabin and tie up two fathers in the early stages of M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin.
02:04By the time Leonard, Sabrina, Adrian and Redman had all been killed by one another
02:08each time the family refused to sacrifice one of their own to save the world,
02:12each death releasing a plague on the earth,
02:15Eric had finally come to the realisation that this peculiar bunch
02:19actually represented the four horsemen of the apocalypse from the Book of Revelations.
02:23This was secretly evident from the moment the strangers entered the holiday home, however.
02:28The colours each of the figures attempting to keep the world from ending were wearing
02:32matched up with the four different riders mentioned in the Bible.
02:35The white rider for Leonard, red rider for Redman, black rider for Adrian and pale rider for Sabrina.
02:42Number 8, the song playing when Dr. Grant meets the Kirby's subtly hints at their lies, Jurassic Park 3.
02:49It's eventually revealed that the real reason the seemingly rich Kirby's wanted Dr. Alan Grant
02:53to accompany them on their trip to Easeless Sauna in Jurassic Park 3
02:57actually had nothing to do with their wedding.
03:00They just wanted to go and find their son.
03:03If you listen closely during the scene where the deceptive Kirby twosome trick Grant into guiding them
03:08on their upcoming tour of the island by promising to fund his research though,
03:12a sign that these two parents were full of crap could be heard on the jukebox.
03:17As the not all that wealthy Paul and Amanda talk about how much it would mean to them
03:21for the Jurassic Park survivor to join the pair on this journey,
03:25Randy Newman's big hat no cattle tune is accompanying the lie over dinner.
03:29The lyrics in the song focus on lying and pretending to be something you're not,
03:34which is exactly what these two dishonest and desperate parents were doing for much of the Jurassic threequel.
03:40Number 7, Peacemaker's image shows you his fate before it was confirmed later on, the Suicide Squad.
03:46Fresh off of murdering Rick Flag, Peacemaker looks to kill his second all-important hard drive holding Suicide Squad member,
03:53because he's thorough.
03:55Before he can pull the trigger on Ratcatcher 2 though, Bloodsport drops in on the moment
03:59and the two sharpshooters proceed to fire a bullet at the other.
04:03Peacemaker is then shot through his own bullet, as you do, and then crushed by the crumbling Jotunheim reactor.
04:10The bro-y Captain America would ultimately be seen surprisingly recovering in a hospital bed of course,
04:16with director James Gunn later noting how the end credits scene revealing he hadn't actually died
04:21was only added after he agreed to create the anti-hero spin-off TV show.
04:26And what a show it was.
04:27However, keep an eye on the moment Waller threatens to kill the remaining Task Force X crew,
04:32not too long after Peacemaker's apparent death,
04:35and you'll spot a little bit of surprise survival foreshadowing Gunn seemingly decided to add to the flick too.
04:41Within the kill box that contains the pictures of the various Suicide Squad members, Peacemaker's image can still be seen.
04:48Every other member who had been killed up to this point had been blanked out in the box,
04:52but the silver-headed A-hole's picture is still there,
04:56hinting that he was still amongst the living before that eventual post-credits stinger.
05:00Number six, Miranda Tate warned Daggett that money wouldn't buy him power over Bane.
05:05The Dark Knight Rises.
05:07After giving the towering force of nature an earful,
05:10and claiming that he was in charge of the situation during the Dark Knight Rises,
05:14Bane calmly places his hand on the petrified businessman,
05:18and asks John Daggett if that's how he really felt.
05:21In other words, does he feel in charge?
05:23It didn't matter that Daggett had paid the Titan a small fortune.
05:27Bane soon showed him that this certainly didn't give him power over the necessary evil,
05:32by swiftly ending the arrogant soul's life.
05:35Bane wasn't the first person Daggett encountered who didn't share his opinion of money equaling power though.
05:41While wandering around Wayne Manor during a charity event earlier on in the picture,
05:45Miranda Tate let him know that she didn't want to waste her time chatting to a bloke,
05:49who only understood money and the power he thought it bought.
05:53Hey, that rhymes.
05:54Right there and then, the woman who would ultimately be revealed as the daughter of Ra's al Ghul,
05:59and the child saved by Bane all those years ago,
06:02subtly foreshadowed how Daggett's belief in money giving him full control would likely be his downfall.
06:08Number 5. Despite what Indiana Jones says, sometimes X does mark the spot.
06:13The Last Crusade.
06:15It's safe to say Indiana Jones knows a thing or two about archaeology.
06:19Well, it is his job.
06:20So why wouldn't his students believe their professor towards the beginning of The Last Crusade,
06:24when he explained to them in a lecture that 70% of all archaeology was done in a library?
06:30They don't follow maps to treasure, and X never ever marks the spot.
06:34Hilariously though, as Jones' quest to find the Holy Grail eventually takes him to a library of all places later in the flick,
06:40you'll never guess which Roman numeral marks the entrance to the tomb they're looking for.
06:45And on top of X unquestionably marking the spot during their adventure,
06:49Indy, his father, and the Nazis all use a map in order to find where the legendary Grail is.
06:54Once again contradicting the professor's earlier foreshadowing stuff statement to his class.
06:59Number 4. Wheelie was watching a Star Trek episode foreshadowing a twist.
07:04Transformers Dark of the Moon.
07:06While it initially seemed as though Leonard Nimoy's Sentinel Prime was very much fighting the good fight,
07:11alongside the likes of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and the rest of the non-Decepticon giant bots,
07:16in Dark of the Moon, the revived former leader of the Autobots eventually performs one hell of a heel turn midway through the flick.
07:23Before he would eventually reveal that he'd made a deal with Megatron in an attempt to secure the survival of Cybertron, however,
07:30there was actually a brief moment that suggested Nimoy's character could turn out to be somewhat unpredictable, let's say.
07:36While watching an episode of Star Trek earlier in the movie,
07:39a little bot known as Wheelie mentioned how he was taking in the one where Spock goes nuts.
07:44And with Sentinel eventually doing exactly that, shockingly murdering Ironhide,
07:48and eventually joining forces with the evil Decepticons to save their homeworld,
07:53Wheelie ultimately wasn't the only one who ended up watching Spock go a bit mad on screen.
07:58Number 3. The King and Queen's first date hints at the former's true form, Shrek 2.
08:03As King Harold and Queen Lillian argue over the fact their daughter ended up with a big green ogre,
08:09instead of Prince Charming early on in Shrek 2,
08:12the latter reminds her man that love isn't exactly predictable.
08:15And it's here when Harold recalls the pair's first kiss,
08:18one that went down as the two were enjoying a lovely walk by the lily pond.
08:22Also, when examining the pair's bedroom,
08:25there's actually a tapestry on the wall boasting a number of lily pads on a pond too.
08:29All of this secretly foreshadowed the eventual jaw-dropping reveal of Harold's true form being that of a frog,
08:36with the king being turned into a human by the fairy godmother.
08:39And if that wasn't enough of a hint at the warty soul that was always hiding within the king,
08:44Harold was also recognised by a female frog in a bar later on in the flick,
08:49suggesting that she possibly remembered him from his amphibian days.
08:53Number 2. The lads certainly painted the town red, The World's End.
08:57When the crew take a moment to admire Newton Haven within the first 20 minutes of The World's End,
09:02Gary King tells his pals to take a moment to look upon it in its original colours, boys,
09:07because tonight we painted red.
09:09And while they would ultimately end up painting it somewhat blue in the various pubs they'd visit,
09:14as soon as they found themselves in the middle of an alien invasion,
09:17King was actually frighteningly accurate in the end.
09:20In the wake of the network eventually deciding to do one after a frustrating conversation with King and his pals,
09:26the small town is completely destroyed.
09:28What's left of Newton Haven is bathed in red light,
09:32as Gary and those who survived this life-changing night on the town
09:35take in the fiery destruction left behind.
09:38Loves his foreshadowing, Mr. Wright, doesn't he?
09:41Number 1. The amount of times Anthony McCoy's name is spoken foreshadows his fate, Candyman.
09:46Becoming obsessed with the urban legend of the Candyman
09:49throughout the 2021 sequel to the 1992 supernatural horror classic,
09:54artist Anthony McCoy eventually turns into the latest version of the titular spirit.
09:59If you were listening carefully during Nia DaCosta's creepy sequel though,
10:03you may have spotted a brilliant piece of foreshadowing
10:06that pointed to McCoy's eventual hook-handed fate.
10:09The protagonist's full name is said a grand total of precisely five times in the film's runtime.
10:15And how many times must a person say the Candyman's name in a mirror
10:19before he shows up and murders the fool who decided to test this particular urban legend?
10:24You guessed it, five!
10:26It's an ace detail hidden in plain sight
10:29that sneakily links Anthony to the supernatural force he is destined to become,
10:33with McCoy finally transforming into the newest member of the Hive as the flick reached its end.
10:38And that's our list, nor any other movies with ridiculously subtle foreshadowing.
