Police have recorded the statement of the lorry driver involved in the five-vehicle crash that killed five people at KM204 of the North-South Expressway northbound in Melaka on Dec 23 night.

00:00Allor Gaja OCPD Superintendent Ashari Abusama said the police had recorded the statement of
00:06a lorry driver involved in a fatal five-vehicle accident on the North-South Expressway in Malacca
00:11on Monday. He said they had questioned the driver to determine any elements of negligence that
00:16might have contributed to the incident. He said tests conducted on the driver revealed that the
00:21driver was not driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He said police are working
00:26to obtain dashboard camera footage of the incident which shows one of the lorry tyres
00:30being dislodged on the highway. The Transport Ministry has directed the authorities to carry
00:35out a comprehensive investigation and take action against the lorry operator.
00:40The incident occurred at 8.45pm on Monday, involving a tour bus carrying 27 passengers,
00:47two lorries, a car and a multi-purpose vehicle. The crash killed seven people,
00:52including five family members, travelling in the MPV while 33 others were injured.
