00:00Defence Minister Israel Katz says that security in the Philadelphia Corridor will remain in
00:06IDF hands.
00:08What is the significance of this area?
00:11And we're just switching focus here.
00:13Well, it's a key crossing point between Gaza and Egypt.
00:18And so if the IDF continues to maintain control of the Philadelphia Corridor, then what it
00:25effectively means is that the Palestinians in Gaza are cut off from any sort of access
00:31into the Egyptian side of their four-sided enclave.
00:36So it is significant.
00:38No surprise, I think, that Israel Katz has said that, because consistently the government
00:42here has been saying that they will maintain security in Gaza moving forward, even if there
00:46is a ceasefire agreement.
00:48I mean, we should note that Egypt does maintain that border on its side, but it is also heavily
00:54restricted, just like on the Israeli side.
00:57So I think a pretty significant show of strength, or a perceived show of strength, really, from
01:03the Israeli government sending the Defence Minister down there.
01:06But it will, I think, cause some concern, particularly in Egypt, that the IDF is maintaining
01:11this strong line, that they are going to maintain control of that key border crossing that separates
01:17Gaza and Egypt.
