00:00My name is Mohd Fahim Akhil Bin Mamfazil. I'm from Bepoly Biotech, Sunda Merhat.
00:12I'm Prof. Dr. Hairiah Badri from the Malaysian National University.
00:16Today, we're going to look at an innovation based on palm oil
00:20used for the non-food industry.
00:24Biopolyol is the pioneer in the production of a type of plastic called polyurethane.
00:32This innovation is called the biopolyol innovation,
00:37which is based on palm oil.
00:40The technology used at that time can only produce
00:44at least two grades of biopolyol,
00:47which is used for the production of polyurethane foam for the purpose of fermentation.
00:53So what happened over 22 years at the Malaysian National University?
00:59This innovation was expanded to oil and fat based on plants and animals.
01:07Regardless of whether it has a fat-free or non-fat-free fat binding,
01:13it was then transformed into biopolyol for various applications,
01:19which can be said to be 1,001 applications.
01:22The number of industries that use biopolyol is actually more than five.
01:28The use of biopolyol is very widespread because it is one of the popular polymer families.
01:35We tried to make this oil conversion to biopolyol
01:39and go to a large scale so that it can be used by the community.
01:45The result is this biopolyol, which now has as many as six grades.
01:52So in this case, the special thing about this innovation is that it uses water
01:56as a fermenting agent compared to the industry that uses cyclopentane,
02:01which is relatively easy to burn.
02:03And it is also not easy to extract compared to those based on petroleum.
02:08The use of biopolyol is actually more than five.
02:14The first is the construction industry.
02:16The second is the sound deadening industry.
02:18The third is the shipping industry.
02:22And more automotive industries are also involved in the use of biopolyol,
02:26as I said before.
02:27And I can say that the use of biopolyol is very widespread
02:31because it is one of the popular polymer families.
02:35I hope this innovation can give a new face to the palm oil industry in Malaysia
02:40because we as Malaysians know that palm oil is the largest commodity in our country
02:48and we must utilize it as best as we can for the development of our own palm oil industry.
