00:00And triple go in seed order with the highest at large seed in their matchup and we see
00:08guy that means we start in Austin.
00:10It was our second game of three exactly a week ago the five seed Texas taking on the
00:15big Steelers and the champs out of the ACC number 12 Clemson.
00:21It was actually the closest game that we had entering the fourth quarter or at least in
00:25the fourth quarter our only game of the four in the opening round that had a single score
00:31margin in the final 15 minutes Clemson scored a touchdown with just under 12 ticks remaining
00:39and then Jaden blue two plays later broke off a 77 yard run for the Longhorns in Texas
00:44never looked back the Longhorns cover as a 13 and a half point home favorite by the hook
00:49winning by two touchdowns at home.
00:50Yeah dominated in the trenches they rushed for 292 yards on the ground Weisner and Jaden
00:55blue tore it up and put the pressure on Clemson to match them score for score after Clemson
01:01built a seven nothing lead and when you just look at that defense they held Clemson guys
01:06to 76 yards on the ground 3.1 yards per carry and they're going up against the run heavy
01:11offense now in terms of Arizona State with Cam Scottable.
01:15So that is the matchup I mean just offensively I think Texas is built both ways they can
01:19run it they can throw it with Quinn yours they can get into a lower scoring game they
01:23can also run tempo as well this game if it gets into the 50s Texas can go toe to toe
01:29and blow for blow with Arizona State it's critical for Arizona State in my opinion to
01:34dictate the tempo in terms of this matchup utilize the physicality of the rushing attack
01:40see if they can sustain drives score first get this into a lower scoring game and I think
01:45they have a shot spread wise 13 and a half is a huge number and a tough ask in this type
01:50of matchup I know Texas has the athletes but early on I would lean to Arizona State so
01:55I want to talk about Texas's resume for a second because understandably when people
02:02were pulling apart Indiana mostly and somewhat SMU the point was made about well what is
02:08Texas done which was fair to a degree but Texas has always looked like a national title
02:16contender I understand that they only played of top teams Georgia and they could not get
02:22through the true kings of that conference but it was another example where because so
02:29much of the round one takeaways were based on who deserve the seat at the table and who
02:34did not Texas is now the favorite to win the national championship as you alluded
02:40to last week and bring that tripleheader on Saturday I just don't think that we have to
02:45when we are having these conversations right not everything is equal right I understand
02:52that Texas old again ultimately right if you go how many wins against bowl teams or ranked
02:58yeah I got you does anybody here think that Texas was not one of the top teams in college
03:02football no so it's just to me when we relate this moving down through these other games
03:09Texas again flashed that obviously they belonged in this spot and now we are sitting here looking
03:16at a team who some of us me don't even think they're playing their best quarterback and
03:22they're the national championship favorites I mean that is damn impressive out of Texas
03:27and the largest favorite entering our quarterfinal round of the college football playoff they
03:32laid 13 and a half at close against Davos Tigers they will be nearly a two touchdown
03:37favorite against Tenney Dillingham Tenney Dillingham's Arizona State in our opening
03:41game of three next week or as we get ready for New Year's Day which is Wednesday a quick
03:47programming note by the way we will be here college football today that is on Wednesday
03:52starting at 10 a.m. Eastern Time for your entire college football playoff on the opening
03:57day of 2025 so Texas a perfect 5-0 against the spread now in non-conference matchups
04:05this season the largest margin of victory was in our 6-11 matchup in Happy Valley the
04:12Nittany Lions winning by 28 38 to 10 over SMU we were here for the initial hour to preview
04:18some of the games in the National Football League last Saturday as well but also to watch
04:22the early goings of the first ever round in the CFP 12 team format and Lisa guy we
04:28saw an SMU team early driving against a good Penn State defense but a couple of mistakes
04:33by Kevin Jennings were only multiplied later in the opening half three interceptions thrown
04:39by the Stangs quarterback to take it back to the house by the Nittany Lions defense
04:44and Penn State never looked back 38 to 10 a huge victory for James Franklin and Co.
04:49last Saturday in State College what stood out to you most well the defense again opportunistic
04:54they play like that they're going to be very difficult to beat the rest of the way it's
04:58the offense will they get challenged through the playoffs maybe not from Boise State but
05:02in a semi-final you know 14 playoff does a team like Notre Dame or potentially Oregon
05:08whoever they play you know along the way do they challenge them in terms of an offensive
05:13perspective the one thing I took away as well when you look at Drew Allard he made some solid plays
05:18the physicality in terms of the rushing attack they're running the football very well heading
05:22into this matchup if you are Boise State you want this game to resemble what you did
05:27in terms of that matchup in Eugene earlier in the year Maddox Madsen only threw for 148 yards
05:33you relied on Ashton Junte in the rushing attack he ripped out defense for 175 plus if you could
05:39get that type of effort they'll be within margin because a lower scoring game in my opinion favors
05:45Boise State in that matchup that would take a lot of pressure off their defense my takeaway from
05:50that game won't be popular but it's SMU didn't belong in the playoff and they should send massive
05:54thank you cards to Indiana for taking up all of the space that people were complaining about
05:58Indiana's resume was significantly better than that of SMU's SMU didn't do anything like what
06:02Indiana did to Nebraska beating Washington by 14 points with a backup quarterback SMU played BYU
06:08they lost oh but they changed to Preston Stone okay they played a Clemson team who was ranked
06:1216th by this committee but because everybody screamed and kicked and begged to keep out one
06:18of the pillars of college football in Alabama the committee was bullied into putting SMU into the
06:23playoff instead of the Alabama Crimson Tide I hope you enjoyed that game it was atrocious
