00:00I'm so happy to have you back as a series regular on television. You ended your run on Pretty Little Liars in 2017
00:06Yeah, here we are in 2024 and holy on-call is about to premiere
00:11Yeah, why was now the right time for you to come back to TV in such a major capacity?
00:16I think the opportunities had to sort of catch up to where I was in my life
00:21Pretty Little Liars was such an incredible opportunity for me, but I was always playing younger
00:27You know when I first started the show, I was 23 and I was playing 16 high school
00:32You know what? I mean?
00:33And so and and then when I was, you know playing Spencer a little bit like in her mid 20s
00:37I was already in my late 20s. And when I ended the show I got married. I became a mom and
00:43And I think for a while
00:45Genuinely, I mean I obviously had to take the time away so that I I could take the time away
00:49Which was amazing to be with my girls
00:52And but then the opportunities that were coming in a lot of people were still thinking of me as a high schooler and I
00:59Was like, no, no. No, I'm in my 30s. I am a mom of two people
01:04I cannot play that I wouldn't dare
01:09And so it took a while for there to be an opportunity like on-call
01:14for me to be able to show up and bring who I am in life and
01:18The age that I am and the experience that I am and the relationships that I have to be able to you know
01:23To meet that opportunity. So it was just really an incredible, you know aligning of the stars
01:28I was gonna say the stars all aligned. Yeah, I mean next year. You've got a milestone birthday
01:32Oh my god, you've got on-call coming out. You've got nearly eight years of marriage under your belt two beautiful daughters
01:38How do you describe this chapter of your life? Oh my god. Um, I mean incredibly fortunate. I
01:45I would be lying if I didn't say absolute chaos
01:50You know in a beautiful way. No in the best way in the best way. Um, you know, there's I feel so
01:57supremely grateful
01:59For the way things have worked out in my relationship with with Patrick the way our work schedules have aligned
02:06You know truly I was telling him he wasn't working for a while after suits
02:11He wasn't you know, he was he was working on various TV shows
02:13but he wasn't getting the next big thing and and I got this and I told him I was like
02:18Dude, you just need to be with our girls cuz I'm telling you when this show ends
02:22You're gonna be working non-stop and it was true. It was like the show went down and two weeks later
02:27He had this job and now he's been away from our family, you know for like a year
02:31And it's been so wonderful for me because even though it's been hard to sit on this show for a year
02:38I've gotten the opportunity to be with my girls, you know
02:41And really so that we could tag out and our our family doesn't suffer
02:45And so it's like you said this this time is just I feel incredibly fortunate
02:48Oh, I'm so happy for the both of you. I think you have a hit on your hands
02:54Man open up
02:57He's my new trainee is he cool
03:01Journey's still up
03:04I've got some people gunning for me. I don't want that coming off on you
03:08What they say about harder?
03:10Can't trust
03:12You are either 100% with me or not
03:15You're really not holding back when it comes to storylines and stunts and action. How in your words try and do you describe it?
03:22You know what? We kind of we're talking about today. Is that this show is like a fast paced slow burn
03:29It's you know in terms of the action. It is so fast paced. It is relentless
03:34It's coming at you, you know, the characters barely get a chance to breathe you as an audience don't get a chance to breathe
03:41You're just like we're like this
03:45Totally but then at the same time it's really wonderful because it's not racing you through
03:51Character development, you know, you're really having to earn these little moments to understand
03:57Who Diaz is who Harmon is and and you know, can they work together? How are they gonna work together?
04:05So yeah, that's what I'm that's how I would describe it. How do you describe it? I think it's fast-paced. I think it's gripping
04:11I think it's raw and emotional. I mean we're seeing these characters not just as as they police but as they
04:18Go through like familial issues, you know, and the fact that like they're witnessing it in the car in such close proximity
04:24I feel like that adds a layer of like humanity to the show that
04:28Most most cop shows don't really do you know you we never go home with these characters
04:33They're just in the car. So they're having to process things in addition to
04:37Jumping from call to call. I think that's fascinating. I think it's really interesting
04:40I think it's super unique your showrunners paid you a huge compliment when I was speaking with them once
04:45Brandon and Troy and sat down together
04:48The chemistry was just apparent I looked at Tim and said I said it feels like this is season two for them
04:53I think on screen together
04:55They're magnetic. What is this dynamic? Like did you know each other prior to getting these roles? No
05:02No, we met each other on the day of the chemistry read it he had just flown in from Vancouver
05:08he was working on another show and
05:11And it was amazing because it was it was the top of the day, you know
05:15we were really just we just starting out in the morning and then as the day went on it you really started to see
05:23I saw in him that there was this incredible scene partner who not only wanted him, you know
05:29To do the scene well for himself, but wanted me to do the scene like it was it was very very selfless
05:35He was really invested in how he could affect me and you know
05:39Not just how he could showcase this emotional beat. It was already like we were forming a working relationship
05:45So it was it was very immediate Brandon. So giving so giving he is for sure
05:49And then you get to work with this force. I do what was that like? She's incredible
05:54I mean she try and shows up prepared and I think it may kind of elevated me to want to do my best because you
05:59know you you prepare as much as you can but then you work opposite side someone like Troy and or someone like Eric LaSalle or
06:04Laurie and you know and what they bring, you know, the the the the type of a work ethic and intensity that they bring to the
06:11Their craft. I think it just made the project better because we all were just trying to
06:16Uplift each other and I think in turn that shows in the finished product
06:20It absolutely does and I've loved watching both of your characters opposite one another
06:25I gotta tell you as like an OG full house fan as an ER fan. Oh my god
06:30Did you geek out when you found out? Oh my gosh, I get to do a show with Laurie Loughlin and Eric LaSalle
06:35Oh for sure
06:36but it's it's so amazing because like they just their their talent is so huge and
06:43That when you're in the scene with them, there's there's none of that history
06:47You know what? I mean when Laurie turns around, you know what I mean?
06:51She is Bishop. Oh, and so and that it's so fun because then they yell cut and she's like, oh, so how's your Thanksgiving?
06:56You know what?
06:57I mean and tell me about your girls and like she's the sweetest human being ever and the same thing with Eric is like you're
07:02Joking around you're having so much fun. And then all of a sudden it's like boom
07:06He just they yell action or he yells action and he drops into the scene and you're across from like a boxer
07:12You know what? I mean, and you're totally get your hands up. You know what I mean? It's really it's fantastic
07:16I can't get over I'm so used to seeing Laurie and like sundresses and hair and makeup and to be on this show where she's
07:22Swearing and it's very minimal hair and makeup. How did you react to all that? I mean she
07:27Eric has this funny joke. That's not on Becky anymore. Yeah, you know
07:31No, she really embodied this character
07:34I mean my wife got to watch a couple episodes of the show and she was like, I cannot believe that that's that's
07:39No, she's she transformed for the role
07:41I mean she's an it's just a testament to all of her hard work as an actor and same to Eric as well
07:45They really just like are able to tap into something that I think it's admirable
07:50I think this is a show that will ultimately manifest into a season two and I think it's a show that lends itself
07:56To great guest stars. So definitely if you could fish your wish
08:02Look in the camera
08:04Who is it that you're gunning for who's the first person at the top of your list to come play on on call?
08:09Oh my goodness Wow
08:11Um
08:12This is a great question because you go with other incredible like
08:17Cops, you know like or do you call do you go with other amazing detectives or the people you go like holes?
08:23The options are limitless. It is right. I got to be honest with you. I think there's an obvious choice
08:28I think we need Patrick J Adams. Oh my god to come play on this. I don't think I could arrest Patrick
08:33Yeah, I mean, it's so funny that I don't even put him in a cop. I'm like, no, no. No, he's obviously good doing a crime
08:39You got to put him in handcuffs and throw him in the back of your I know
08:43My god, could you imagine that hasn't even been a conversation because I feel like it's so natural
08:47Oh my god, it would be that would be just absolutely wild just so wild
08:53It would be super fun
08:54But I mean, no my my mind goes to like like Bryan Cranston like I want to like arrest Walter White
09:00The ultimate baddie, but the ultimate bad. You know what I mean?
09:03Like I just want somebody like Danny Trejo. Yeah, come on. Could you imagine working across? I would I don't know if I could
09:10Hold it together. He's like a hardcore LA guy. He's got a real past
09:14So I think that's a wonderful call-out for season two Danny Trejo. We get doughnuts in an amazing actor
09:21Catering taken care of and an amazing actor. I love that that choice. Who's your choice? Oh my goodness
09:27I've always wanted to work opposites Javier Bardem, but I don't see I don't know
09:31Who knows maybe he's a commander of a another precinct or something. Yeah, I don't know
09:36It's it's it's really interesting and I trust in Tim and Elliot that whoever they do bring on will provide justice to the story
09:42That they're trying to tell
09:44Congratulations again. This show is so much fun to watch and you two are incredible opposite each other. Truly. Thank you
