00:00Hawker Zainatul Rafida, Zainul Abidin on Monday pleaded guilty to an offence of torching a motorcycle in Taiping last week.
00:07The 43-year-old made the plea at the Taiping Sessions Court and expressed regret over her actions.
00:13She was accused of committing mischief by fire at Jalan Masjid Pokok Assam at about 3.50pm on December 26,
00:20knowing it would damage the motorcycle belonging to a 22-year-old Zainatul Shakira Amira Zaini.
00:26The charge framed under Section 435 of the Penal Code carries a maximum penalty of 14 years' imprisonment and a fine upon conviction.
00:34The accused's lawyer pleaded for a reduced sum, citing her age, monthly income of approximately 1,000 ringgit,
00:42and her responsibility to care for her family, after the prosecution proposed a 20,000 ringgit bail for the accused.
00:49The court subsequently set bail at 4,000 ringgit with one surety
00:53and fixed January 14 for the submission of the case facts and sentencing.
01:05Police said during the incident, the accused poured liquid, believed to be petrol, on the motorcycle
01:10and ignited it after she was frustrated with the actions of a motorcycle repossession agent,
01:15seizing the vehicle due to 20 months of missed payments.
