00:00You borrow my brain for five seconds and just be like, dude, can't handle it."
00:03Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most
00:07explosive celebrity outbursts that go way out of hand in a relatively short time.
00:13One of the things you said was about owning Malibu.
00:16Yeah, oh yeah, right.
00:2110. Roseanne Barr
00:23It wasn't Roseanne Barr's first time down controversy lane,
00:26but this time things took a sharp and dramatic turn.
00:30Her eponymous sitcom had just made a triumphant return, premiering to impressive ratings.
00:36Did you get the pain pills for my bad knee?
00:39Wouldn't be the Candyman without the sunshine, babe.
00:42But Barr's own hands put her in trouble on May 29, 2018, when she sent out a tweet
00:48about a former White House advisor that was widely viewed as racist.
00:52The very same day, despite the strong ratings,
00:55Roseanne was canceled by ABC and wiped off the network's website.
01:00Within hours, ABC pulled the plug on the show,
01:03saying Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant,
01:07and inconsistent with our values, and we've decided to cancel her show.
01:11Barr's response was chaotic. She was first offensive, then took a Twitter hiatus.
01:16When she returned, she explained that she wasn't racist.
01:19Instead, the sedative Ambien had caused her to tweet.
01:23The drug makers, however, quickly shut down that excuse.
01:26While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects,
01:29racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.
01:349. Kanye West
01:36Kanye West has never been one to bite his tongue, even though sometimes we wish he would.
01:41But if you're upset about an awards category,
01:44the last person to bring that up with is the winner.
01:48Especially when they're in the middle of accepting said award.
01:52Yo, Taylor.
01:54If only someone had told that to West on the 2009 VMAs.
01:58As Taylor Swift accepted the Best Female Video award,
02:01West stormed on stage, grabbed the mic from her,
02:04and boldly declared that Beyoncé deserved it instead.
02:08I'm really happy for you. I'm gonna let you finish.
02:10But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.
02:13One of the best videos of all time.
02:19Not only was this embarrassing for both Swift and Beyoncé,
02:22it sent the live audience and viewers at home into an uproar.
02:27Even President Obama couldn't resist weighing in.
02:29He's a jackass.
02:31This was one opinion West definitely should have kept to himself.
02:34Because I only wanted to help people, you know, my entire life.
02:38I've only wanted to give and do something that I felt was right.
02:42Number 8. Alec Baldwin
02:44Many parents love giving their kids adorable animal-inspired nicknames.
02:49Think monkey, bunny, and the likes.
02:51But back in 2007, when Alec Baldwin called his daughter a pig,
02:56it wasn't exactly a term of endearment.
02:58There are limitations on what you can say and what you should say under these circumstances.
03:05At the time, the actor was locked in a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife,
03:09Kim Basinger, over their daughter, Ireland.
03:12After Ireland missed a scheduled phone call, Baldwin let loose on her in a voicemail,
03:17calling her a thoughtless little pig.
03:20Certainly not the pep talk you'd want to hear from a parent.
03:30The issue was, however, blown way out of proportion after TMZ leaked the audio,
03:35forcing Baldwin into an apology tour.
03:37But frankly, it wasn't we who were in the need of an apology.
03:41After all the years of giving verbal abuse, it's finally time you receive some.
03:45Number 7. Michael Richards
03:48When you heckle a comedian during their set, be prepared for some fiery comebacks.
03:52But the audience members who interrupted Michael Richards' set at Hollywood's Laugh
03:56Factory on November 17, 2006, had no idea how low he was willing to go.
04:02He entertained millions as the lovable, lovable Fafoon Kramer on Seinfeld,
04:07but there was nothing lovable about him when he went off on a racist rant
04:11on stage at a comedy club in Los Angeles over the weekend.
04:14In response to their heckling, Richards launched into an angry tirade that quickly
04:18veered down a racist path. Someone in the crowd filmed the chaos,
04:22and it was eventually leaked by none other than TMZ.
04:26All right, you see? It shocks you. It shocks you.
04:30In a matter of days, Richards went from the beloved Kramer on Seinfeld to a public pariah.
04:37As a result, his career took a nosedive, and he vanished from the spotlight,
04:41retiring from stand-up for good.
04:43You talk about a bad night.
04:45Number 6. Will Smith
04:46Audiences tuned into the 2022 Oscars expecting Hollywood glam,
04:51emotional acceptance speeches, and show-stopping performances.
04:55But what they got far surpassed that.
04:57That was a nice one, okay.
05:00While presenting the Best Documentary Feature Award, comedian Chris Rock made a joke at the
05:05expense of Jada Pinkett Smith. In an attempt to defend his wife's honor, Will Smith marched
05:11onstage and smacked Rock across the face. He then returned to his seat and yelled
05:16expletives at the comedian. You could hear a pin drop in the room.
05:20"...Will shouting at the top of his lungs, keep my wife's name out of your f----- mouth."
05:25About an hour later, Smith won the Oscar for Best Actor,
05:29checking off at least one of the night's expectations with a teary acceptance speech.
05:34Not even the best screenwriters in the room could have scripted a more dramatic turn of events.
05:39That was the greatest night in the history of television.
05:42Number 5. Shia LaBeouf
05:44Keeping track of Shia LaBeouf's public meltdowns is practically impossible.
05:48Turned out that story breaking overnight on Shia LaBeouf,
05:51taken out of a Broadway theater in handcuffs after an outburst.
05:54It all started in 2013 when he was caught plagiarizing a comic book for his short film,
06:00Howard Cantor.com.
06:01The actor first said that he, quote, got lost in the creative process,
06:06and that was his reason for not crediting this author for inspiring his film.
06:10His apology for this also seemed to have been plagiarized from another post.
06:14From there, things quickly went downhill. In February 2014, he appeared at the Berlin Film
06:20Festival wearing a paper bag with the words, I am not famous anymore. Then, a few months later,
06:26he was arrested at a Broadway theater for disorderly conduct and harassment.
06:30According to witnesses, LaBeouf disrupted a performance of the musical Cabaret
06:35by slapping audience members on the backside and yelling at cast members.
06:40He'd go on to rack up more arrests for similar charges.
06:43After being sued by his ex-girlfriend singer FKA Twigs for sexual battery and assault,
06:49LaBeouf took a break from acting and pledged to seek treatment.
06:52Number 4. Paula Deen
06:54In 2013, this celebrity Southern chef was sued by an employee for racial and sexual discrimination.
07:00Her startling admissions came during a deposition in a lawsuit filed against her
07:05by a former employee.
07:06The suit itself barely made headlines, but it was Paula Deen's own words during her deposition
07:12that ignited a media firestorm. Deen admitted to using racial slurs in the past,
07:17and once that confession went public, all hell broke loose.
07:21Now, according to the deposition, Deen was asked,
07:24"'Have you ever used the n-word yourself?' To which she replies,
07:27"'Yes, of course.'"
07:28What followed was a string of teary apologies, each seemingly less sincere than the last.
07:33But that did little to help. Soon, she was hemorrhaging business deals,
07:37and saw her contract with the Food Network terminated.
07:40In a last-ditch effort to save her cooking empire,
07:43Deen went on The Today Show and delivered a bizarre apology that did little to win anyone over.
07:49It's very distressing for me to go into my kitchens,
07:53and I hear what these young people are calling each other.
07:573. Mel Gibson
07:59In the late 2000s, Mel Gibson seemed to vanish completely from Hollywood,
08:03without much explanation. The answer lies in a messy police encounter from 2006.
08:08The officer doesn't want to handcuff him, right? He says, look, look,
08:12you know, you're over the limit. I don't want to handcuff you. Let's just keep this thing
08:16under control, right? And Gibson tries to run away from him.
08:20Gibson was driving under the influence in Los Angeles when he was pulled over
08:24by a sheriff's deputy and arrested. When the officer didn't let him off the hook,
08:29Gibson unleashed an explosive tirade laced with anti-Semitic remarks.
08:33And first, he doesn't start with anti-Semitic stuff right away. He starts with, uh,
08:37"'I own Malibu.'"
08:38TMZ quickly got its hand on the arrest report, and after the story hit mainstream media,
08:44Gibson realized he was in hot water. He put out two lukewarm apologies before
08:49granting Diane Sawyer a televised interview, where he admitted his mistakes.
08:54Are those anti-Semitic words?
08:56Oh, yeah. Yeah. Absolutely. Sounds horrible. And I'm ashamed of that.
09:02That came out of my mouth. And I'm not that. That's not who I am, you know?
09:05Yet many remained skeptical, and for good reason.
09:08Just a few years later, he was caught making hateful remarks.
09:12I'm just telling you the truth. I don't like it. I don't want that woman. I don't want you.
09:18Number two, Britney Spears. By now, nearly everyone has seen those infamous pictures.
09:23An expressionless Britney Spears shaving her own head in a salon.
09:27Or the one where she attacks a paparazzo's car with an umbrella.
09:30These snapshots have become the enduring symbols of Spears' public meltdown in 2007.
09:36Do you think the paparazzi being around affected her at all?
09:39I don't really think, and I don't really believe, because...
09:43Thrust into stardom as a teenager, Spears buckled under the pressure of fame,
09:47and it all boiled over after her marriage fell apart and her beloved aunt passed away.
09:52The head-shaving and umbrella incident occurred in early 2007,
09:56but the relentless media circus continued,
09:59and she eventually lost custody of her sons that October.
10:02In an emergency session Friday, a family court judge suspended Spears' right to eat and drink.
10:08Spears' right to even see her children.
10:10By the following year, things had gotten even worse,
10:13resulting in her father assuming control in a conservatorship that lasted until 2021.
10:18The next several years promise to be very lucrative for the conservatorship estate.
10:23This conservatorship should be viewed more as a hybrid business model,
10:27which I think is probably the first time that's ever been said about a conservatorship.

10:481. Charlie Sheen
10:50If you're the highest-paid actor on television,
10:52one would think you'd do whatever it takes to keep that job. Well, unless you're Charlie Sheen.
10:57We're going to turn to the bitter tug-of-war between, yes, Charlie Sheen and Warner Bros.
11:02In 2011, Sheen launched a full-scale campaign where he publicly insulted Chuck Lorre,
11:08the creator of Two and a Half Men, the very show that made him a star.
11:12Why do I bother talking to you?
11:15Beats the hell out of me.
11:16Consequently, he was fired and replaced by Ashton Kutcher,
11:20but Sheen didn't take his dismissal lying down. Oh no.
11:23He doubled down with even more interviews,
11:26declaring himself a warlock with Tigerblood and insisting that he was winning.
11:31I'm bi-winning. I win here and I win there. Now what?
11:35Winning what, exactly? We're still not sure.
11:37By the time the dust had settled, Two and a Half Men kept thriving,
11:41while Sheen moved on to a far less successful show.
11:45I wish you and Jen the very best, and I hope that maybe even someday you and I can be friends.
11:48What do you say?
11:50Eighty-five percent chance that'll never happen.
11:52Did you think any of these celebrity meltdowns was justified?
11:55Let us know in the comments below.
11:57You better not arrest me. Are you kidding me?
