00:00And it brings me to the next question
00:02of the director's vision of the film.
00:04And how did that enhance your approach
00:06to your character in the story?
00:08Just overall the vision
00:10and then how you all saw the character.
00:12Like, was there correlation there?
00:15I think Tyler just had so much admiration
00:18and respect for these women.
00:19And he created, like you said,
00:21a space where he supported us
00:23in order to be able to support them.
00:25You could tell the amount of nuance
00:27and detail that he had to the visuals,
00:30to the uniforms, and to the spaces that were created,
00:33to the streets that they marched on,
00:34all of these things that really have created
00:38the world that they lived in.
00:39I don't think that was overlooked, you know?
00:44Yeah, definitely, definitely.
00:46And the modern parallels, do you see parallels?
00:49And this is part of a movie question,
00:51but then also just a real life question.
00:53Do you see parallels between the challenges
00:56that the women faced in World War II, the 6888,
01:00and whether there's any correlations or struggles
01:02to what we experience today in 2024,
01:05and I guess now 2025?
01:08Something that Tyler talks about
01:10is how these women were facing racism
01:15and misogyny, grueling working conditions,
01:18and they did not have laws to protect them.
01:21This is before black women really had the right to vote.
01:26It was at a time when there was not legal structure
01:30to protect them in the way that we have now.
01:33I mean, I would say a lot of our rights are under attack
01:36as well as women, but back then,
01:38they had such few ways to protect themselves.
01:43So there are parallels, but I think it's humbling
01:47and important to remember that what we're dealing with today
01:50pales in comparison to the challenges
01:52that they were up against.
01:54I think what we do today is protect each other
01:57the way that Jim, who was protecting the battalion,
02:00taught them how to protect themselves.
02:02That's what we do today as black women.
02:04So I think that's a huge similarity,
02:06even though it's not the same time period,
02:08it's the same level of security that we have
02:11in the system of how we live in 2024, 2025.
02:15It's funny, though, because when people see the film,
02:18you see some of the ways that the white soldiers
02:20interact with these women,
02:21and we talk a lot about microaggressions at work,
02:24but these are just aggressions.
02:26There's nothing micro about them.
02:29There didn't have to be.
02:31So their bond was so strong to get them through,
02:35and I think we do see that today still.
02:38Yeah, definitely.
