Canberra has never quite hit the same crowded highs as Sydney or Melbourne during its celebrations of the New Year’s fireworks displays, but this year more people than usual are expected to watch after the midnight show was reinstated

00:13Though there are a few very eager revellers who have already set up camp, more than 50,000
00:20people attended last year's fireworks display, but an even bigger crowd is expected tonight.
00:25That's because the midnight display is back after being canned in 2023.
00:30The 9pm show is still on the schedule.
00:33Several roads will be closed, including Commonwealth Avenue Bridge from 8.40pm, but public transport
00:39will be free from 5 with extra services from 6.30.
00:43ACT Policing is reminding Canberrans to be on their best behaviour, while St John Ambulance
00:49says don't forget to include hydrate and look after your mates in any New Year's Eve party
