From fireworks shows in Maningrida to masquerade themed parties in Alice Springs Territorians welcomed the start of the new year with characteristic enthusiasm. In Darwin tthousands braved erratic weather and an early downpour with skies clearing for the 9pm fireworks display. But storms forced event organisers to move the midnight show forward half an hour with many opting to ring in the new year inside pubs, clubs, and bars.

00:09And just like that, a new year begins with confetti rain inside packed clubs and pubs

00:24It was a sunny start to New Year's Eve celebrations.
00:27Happy New Year!
00:30The keenest braving the searing afternoon sun.
00:33It's hot and busy and really fun to swim in the water.
00:38Is it any cooler up there?
00:39Are you getting a breeze?
00:40Actually, as you said that the breeze did just come through.
00:43It's a bit warm.
00:45While thousands down south camped out and queued in Australia's most laid back city,
00:51it was as easy as rolling out a picnic blanket and enjoying the show.
00:55Just to be down here with all the families and stuff like that, it's great.
00:58It's great to have these guys up for a wet season.
01:00I don't know why they've come up for a wet season, but they have.
01:03They've come to experience it.
01:04But then a rumble from above and seconds later, some hardened locals choosing to tough it
01:12out.
01:13We're here for it.
01:14We just put our blankets over our heads.
01:17The top ends notorious wild weather catching some interstate visitors off guard.
01:22Some really kind locals told us to run and they helped the pram up the stairs and they
01:27said get under cover.
01:28They knew it was coming.
01:29Through heat, sweat, mud and rain, nothing was going to stop these Territorians welcoming
01:36another year in paradise.
01:38Happy New Year!
01:41As light shows and fireworks lit up the sky, people were setting their sights on the future.
01:47I'm going to a new school next year and I'm hoping I make new friends.
01:52I graduated this year so it's like another new life.
01:56I would like more of this, more adventures and more fun.
01:59There was plenty of that on Darwin's party strip.
02:03It's really great!
02:06Hang out for 10 minutes, I come out here like every weekend and this is wild.
02:10Party goers eager to clear the decks.
02:12We're leaving behind every toxic person in 2024.
02:17And just no.
02:21Quiet, quiet, quiet.
02:23And set some New Year resolutions.
02:25Really mature ourselves.
02:27No more clubbing.
02:28No.
02:29Gym every single day, getting absolutely ripped.
02:33Police said people were mostly well behaved and while some will undoubtedly be having
02:39a tougher start to 2025 than others, across the Northern Territory hopes it's the beginning
02:45of a bright and memorable new chapter.
02:50Happy New Year!
