00:00As part of the administration's key goals, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. is now in charge of the health sector.
00:09This is in the face of the rise in the number of diseases that the Filipinos are suffering from.
00:15And as part of the government's weapons, the most important thing is to vaccinate the youth.
00:22We will talk about this in the PTV Highlights 2024 of Bien Manalo.
00:31On the second occasion since 2022, the World Health Organization once again declared a public health emergency of international concern.
00:40This is because of the reoccurrence of MPACs in Africa and other countries.
00:45Here in the Philippines, the first case of MPACs was reported last July 2022.
00:51Despite this, the Department of Health assured that there will be no lockdown in the country.
00:57They explained that the MPACs will not be exposed to air, but will be exposed to direct or skin-to-skin contact.
01:05We will not require the hospitalization of the MPACs.
01:08They will not be exposed to air.
01:10They do not need to go to the ICU.
01:12They will not be given a face shield.
01:14They will not be required to wear a face mask, as long as they are in home isolation.
01:18The MPACs Task Force was formed by Secretary Ted Herbosa and other medical experts.
01:26They are in charge of planning the arrival of surveillance and clinical public health, as well as logistics.
01:33The MPACs National Action Plan was also established, which aims to control transmission and maintain a zero mortality rate in the country.
01:41In the end, the DOH assured that the government is ready to respond to the threat of MPACs.
01:47What is needed is for the public to provide the correct information on how to avoid the occurrence of MPACs.
01:56After the arrival of six MPACs in the country in the past few months,
02:01the Department of Health reminded the public about the possible increase in the number of MPACs with dengue virus or AIDS-AGP.
02:11That is why the Health Department is working hard to open the MPACs.
02:18This includes the introduction of vector control, which aims to reduce the number of MPACs.
02:24We distribute larvicides and adulticides to our regional offices to reduce the number of MPACs.
02:35It is also important to find the cause of the MPACs, such as old tires, piles, and houses.
02:45According to the DOH, more than 300,000 cases of dengue were reported in the beginning of 2024 until last month.
02:54This is more than 80 percent compared to more than 100,000 cases that were reported at the same time in 2023.
03:03More than 800 cases were reported in the past year, with a case fatality rate of 0.26 percent, which is lower than 0.34 percent last year.
03:14According to Kagawaran, the reduction of the number of MPACs despite the increase in the number of new cases this year is due to faster screening, testing, and proper treatment.
03:26The DOH also emphasized their campaign against the deadly leptospirosis.
03:32Although the number of cases of leptospirosis this year is higher than last year, the case fatality rate this year is lower.
03:43This is the result of strengthening case management and early consultation for proper assessment and prescription of prophylaxis.
03:51Many places in the country were flooded due to the severe typhoons in the past few months.
03:57And now that it's winter, different diseases have spread again.
04:02That's why the DOH is pushing for the expansion of the immunization program or vaccination.
04:08The school vaccine is one of the things that the Department of Education is helping with.
04:13This is far from giving protection to children against the so-called vaccine-preventable diseases.
04:19The agency also continues to strengthen the Bayaniwana vaccine as part of their eight-point action agenda.
04:27The Philippine National AIDS Council officially launched the undetectable equals untransmittable campaign or U equals U campaign
04:37in celebration of the 2024 Philippine World AIDS Day.
04:41This is a campaign to fight HIV-AIDS stigma and to increase the public's awareness of prevention, testing, and proper treatment.
04:52According to the health department, the number of people living with HIV in the country may exceed 200,000 before the end of the year.
05:01And it is possible that this number will increase to more than 400,000 by the end of 2030, if not earlier.
05:08The stigma is mostly due to lack of knowledge, and that's where your help is needed.
05:14HIV is not a new disease. It was discovered long ago, in 1983.
05:19Antiretrovirals were already prescribed.
05:22Because of this, the effectiveness of HIV awareness, screening, and treatment access in the entire Philippines has increased.
05:30The continued support for community engagement and technical assistance to the healthway medical networks in the country
05:37and the strengthening of partnership with partners and stakeholders in the delivery of free HIV self-testing kits
05:44BN Manado for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
