00:12battles to come out over the course of this year.

00:29Egon, Nine Souls It just wouldn't be an end-of-year boss list
00:34without a bit of Souls-like stirred into the mix, and Egon is guaranteed to put you through
00:39your paces.
00:40Obsessed with immortality, this genius helmed the Eternal Cauldron Project, and in her drive
00:46brought about plague and death.
00:48So naturally, it falls on you to put the old woman six feet under, though that is no easy
00:55matter.
00:56Across three brutal stages, Egon is going to come at you with blinding speed that will
01:01demand perfect parrying, made all the worse when she starts going all out with those projectiles
01:07and delayed sword strikes.
01:09Grovekeeper Tepoda, another crab's treasure.
01:20Wandering off the beaten path in this undersea Souls-like was a surefire way to find yourself
01:25embroiled in some savage optional boss battles, and none proved more of a challenge than Tepoda.
01:30This Mantis Shrimp hits hard.
01:33The speed of his punches paired with the gnarly habit of whipping up sandstorms means you
01:38don't know where his attacks are coming from at any given moment.
01:42And if your parrying isn't on point, then there's a good chance he's going to breel
01:46your shell and leave you defenseless.
01:49Given how vital he is to leveling up your crab-tagonist, it's a battle worth undertaking
01:54regardless.
02:08True Devil Kazuya – Tekken 8
02:19The King of Iron Fist is no stranger to challenging opponents, some of which have felt borderline
02:24broken over the years.
02:26Kazuya and his demonic alter-ego sit comfortably among the pantheon of exhausting combatants
02:31that simply refuse to go down.
02:34You'll lose count of how many rounds you have to knock out Kazuya, who is downright
02:38dirty when it comes to abusing counters, throws, and especially that damned laser beam.
02:43If he trips you up even once, you can expect to get juggled.
02:48Not even Jin's awesome new angel form is going to be enough to brush off his daddy's brutal
02:52combos.
03:06Amalia – Unicorn Overlord
03:08Yes, that giant woman who uses a door for a shield and a blade that would make Cloud
03:13Strife blush is a beast of a boss fight.
03:16Who would have guessed?
03:17Amalia is fought twice during the course of the Colosseum match-up, first with a group
03:22of powerful warriors in their own right, serving as support, and again by her lonesome.
03:27Ironically enough, it's when she goes solo that the difficulty really spikes.
03:32Possessed by a malevolent spirit, this Amazon can dish out an ungodly amount of damage on
03:38your party, consecutively at that.
03:41Defeating her is certainly worth the grind, since she becomes an unlockable party member
03:45right after, not to mention open to marriage.
03:49Orod – The Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown
04:01Every confrontation with the Immortals is a challenging one, pinning Sargon's reflexes
04:05to their limit.
04:07Though, to our mind, not even the final boss held a candle to this master of storms.
04:12It isn't so much Orod's size that's a problem, it's his insane range.
04:17This juggernaut swings around electrified anchors across the limited area continually,
04:22leaving precious few windows to avoid damage, made all the worse when his later phase starts
04:27to drastically increase their area of effect.
04:30If you get stunned, you're going to be temporarily unable to bust out your specials, which you'll
04:35desperately need to shave off his health.
04:38This gets to somersaulting every chance you get if you want to avoid riding the lightning.
04:51Sephiroth – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
05:06Every time the one-winged angel shows up, you know you're in for a hell of a time.
05:11While getting to play as Zack was wild, not even two Buster Swords were going to be able
05:16to easily deal with something as Lovecraftian as Sephiroth Reborn.
05:20You'll have to cut away at each part of his new colossal body as Cloud while getting
05:25battered with Maelstrom, as well as deal with the shadowy version of Bahamut via the rest
05:29of the party.
05:31This all culminates in one last showdown against the original, and yes, he will use Heartless
05:36Angels, so don't you best not linger.
05:47Raven – Stellar Blade
05:57Whether you're battling against her feathered form or as a fellow sword user, Raven is one
06:02pissed-off android who will relentlessly test your combat prowess.
06:06As the unknown Natibah, she will hack your health with her talons, and if you aren't
06:11careful, end you with an insta-kill move that is far from easy to cancel.
06:16Things only escalate when she goes mano-a-mano with her own blade, where she'll string together
06:21combos that become increasingly complex with askew timings, so unless you're a deflect
06:26god, shrugging off her swings can feel borderline impossible.
06:38Elizabeth – Persona 3 Reload
06:40Ah yes, the timed and tested tradition of the Velvet Room attendants being the most
06:54difficult bosses to beat in a Persona game.
06:57No surprise to see that the remakes stuck to this by having Elizabeth serve as the final
07:01challenge for those who overcame every obstacle in Tartarus.
07:05Not only do you have to fight her solo, but unless you fulfill specific, unnamed conditions,
07:10then Elizabeth is going to instantly end you without warning.
07:14You have to play by her rules, and even then, she'll unleash a crazy amount of damage.
07:20Any hope of survival entirely depends on a specific loadout of some of the rarest and
07:24most difficult Personas and equipment to obtain, so best hope you've got yen to spare.
07:39Erlang – The Sacred Divinity – Black Myth Wukong
07:50Because apparently battling Wukong's remains wasn't enough, you've also got to face his
07:54nemesis if you want to truly prove yourself worthy.
07:58While unlocking the passage to fight Erlang is all kinds of tricky in of itself, the actual
08:02fight can be hell, given that this Enforcer of the Celestial Court happens to have an
08:08extra defense bar that makes inflicting damage that much harder.
08:12He can cancel your transformations, blindside you with projectile volleys, and offers barely
08:17any room to catch your breath.
08:19It speaks to how demonstrably difficult the encounter is, when we'd rather take on the
08:23four Heavenly Giants any day than have to tango with one dude and his dog.
08:41Redan – Shadow of the Erd Tree – Elden Ring
08:54Just when we thought the lands between had broken us with Melania, Erlang comes from
08:58software to demonstrate just how high they can reach when it comes to boss battles, both
09:03in terms of spectacle and unyielding soul-shattering frustration.
09:08Redan's return was shocking enough, but as it happens, he also comes armed with a new
09:13skill set that makes his previous encounter feel like battling the Soldier of Godric.
09:18Gravity magic, blood magic, insanely fast sword swings, and that's all before Phase
09:232.
09:24Throw in holy aftershocks and an insta-kill grapple courtesy of Mikala, and you have a
09:29boss that broke a generation of gamers.
