NSW Police have confirmed officers fatally shot a 35-year-old man armed with a revolver outside a hospital on the state’s mid north coast after first giving numerous warnings and using a taser.

00:08the car park of the Manning Base Hospital, just behind me here at Taree.
00:14Police had earlier been called to a home at Wingham, which is just west of Taree, to do
00:19a welfare check on the man, who was known to police after reports shots had been fired
00:24in the air.
00:26Police say a woman then drove the man to the Manning Base Hospital.
00:30Police were alerted and four officers subsequently engaged with the man at the hospital car
00:35park.
00:36One officer discharged a taser, while three others discharged firearms.
00:41We're still investigating as to whether he actually fired any shots at the police at
00:46that location, but he certainly pointed the firearm at them.
00:49They called on him numerous times to drop that firearm.
00:53They deployed a taser and then eventually shot him.
00:57Police treated the man with first aid at the scene before ambulance paramedics arrived.
01:02The man later died in the Manning Hospital.
01:06An investigation is underway and there will also be an independent review.
