00:00Bersatu has no choice but to join a pro-Najib Razak rally organized by PAS due to declining

00:07support within Perikatan Nasional, according to a political analyst.

00:12James Chin of the University of Tasmania said Bersatu needs to do everything it can to remain

00:17relevant to the masses amidst PAS' rising dominance.

00:22While Bersatu President Muhyiddin Yassin may not be pleased with the coalition's component

00:26parties and his own party members' attendance at the rally, Chin said he is in a weak position

00:31to oppose PAS' support for Najib since PAS' influence far exceeds that of Bersatu.

00:38The rally will coincide with Najib's application to the Court of Appeal for leave to adduce

00:43fresh evidence in his appeal to be placed under house arrest, as purportedly decreed

00:47by former Yang di-Pertuan Agong al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

00:53Last Saturday, Bersatu Information Chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said party leaders and

00:58members were free to join the rally outside the Palace of Justice in the spirit of national

01:03reconciliation.

01:04However, both Chin and Azmil Taib of University Science Malaysia dismissed claims of national

01:10reconciliation and expressed doubt on Najib's ability to unify the major Malay Muslim parties.

01:17Azmil suggested that the rally aims to create discord within the unity government and sees

01:22Najib's house arrest appeal as a pretext for Muhyiddin to destabilize the government.
