You might think that celebrity chefs enjoy every food out there, but even the classiest of chefs has a food that makes them shove the plate away like a child. In some cases, it's because of unnatural and processed ingredients, but others have aversions to certain vegetables as well. If you've ever watched these chefs on TV and noticed they go out of their way to avoid certain ingredients, now you know why. From everyone who has piled on hate for truffle oil to the food that is only served at Bobby Flay's restaurants when he's away, here are some foods that famous chefs absolutely won't eat.

00:00They may be the ultimate foodies, but celebrity chefs are more like us mere mortals than you
00:06would believe.
00:07You would probably never classify a well-known chef as a picky eater, but even the most famous
00:12celebrity chefs have foods they just can't stand, and some of them are definitely not
00:16what you would expect.
00:18Truffles might be right up there at the top of the list when it comes to classy foods,
00:22but truffle oil?
00:24Given that it's not made from real truffles, not so much.
00:28Jordan Ramsey and Joe Bastianich both made their feelings about truffle oil perfectly
00:32clear in one tense episode of MasterChef.
00:35When one contestant drizzled her dish in white truffle oil, they didn't pull any punches.
00:40Bastianich walked over to her station and threw the cylinder of truffle oil in the garbage
00:44after saying any restaurant who had it on the menu wasn't worth it.
00:48Ramsey called it,
00:49"...one of the most pungent, ridiculous ingredients ever known to chef."
00:55They're not the only ones that refuse to have anything to do with truffle oil.
00:59Alton Brown once told Grub Street,
01:01"...truffle oil sucks."
01:03And when Today asked Martha Stewart what was on her naughty list, she had this to say,
01:07"...oh, I would never use truffle oil.
01:09Oh, never.
01:10It's bad.
01:11They've done many studies on truffle oil.
01:13It's synthetic.
01:14It's fake.
01:15It's horrible.
01:16It clings to your taste buds.
01:18It's a hideous thing."
01:19Anthony Bourdain was on the list of truffle oil haters, too, once calling it,
01:23"...about as edible as AstroGlide and made from the same stuff."
01:28It's an old joke.
01:29The customer asks the server, what's the soup du jour?
01:32And they respond,
01:33"...the soup of the day."
01:35According to Gordon Ramsey, though, the soup du jour isn't actually a laughing matter.
01:39It's one of the items on a restaurant's menu that he absolutely wants nothing to do with.
01:44When Town & Country asked him what he recommended never, ever ordering at a restaurant, he had
01:49this bit of wisdom to offer.
01:51Ask what yesterday's soup du jour was before today's special.
01:55It may be the case that it's the soup du month.
01:57The idea of getting something served up that's been reheated and reused for days suddenly
02:02doesn't sound so good.
02:04The idea of soup of the day makes it sound like it's going to be super fresh, but take
02:08it from Ramsey.
02:09You should probably follow in his footsteps and opt for something else.
02:14Every so often, we hear something about our favorite celebrity chefs that really serves
02:18to remind you that they live in an entirely different world.
02:22Take Mary Berry.
02:23She's written more than 70 cookbooks and made the world fall in love with her on The Great
02:28British Bake Off.
02:29But if you think that after a long day of filming she might grab some takeout on the
02:33way home, you'd be mistaken.
02:35On James Martin's Christmas with Friends, she remarked,
02:37"...you won't believe this, but I haven't ever had a takeaway."
02:41Berry has been vocal about her belief that Britain, quote, "...orders in and eats out
02:45way too much and should start making more home-cooked meals."
02:49It's entirely possible she's the only person in Britain who's never ordered out for a pizza,
02:54a curry, or even fish and chips.
02:57And according to The Telegraph, that's not just a shame, it's a sign that she's missing
03:01out on an entire section of British cuisine and culture.
03:05Store-bought mayonnaise is weird.
03:07It's shelf-stable, but it's filled with all kinds of things that definitely aren't.
03:11Do you know who else thinks so?
03:13Rachael Ray.
03:14She said on The Rachael Ray Show,
03:16"...we did not grow up with mayonnaise in my house, you know, we just didn't have it
03:20around.
03:21It's weird to me.
03:22The consistency is weird to me."
03:24But she's fine with mayo and aioli, as long as she makes it fresh.
03:28And according to the Huffington Post, there's a lot of people who can't stomach the idea
03:32of mayo.
03:33They chopped it up to a few reasons.
03:35It's an inanimate object that shouldn't wiggle, but does.
03:39That whole room temperature thing.
03:40And it just looks like something that's going to make us sick.
03:43Yum.
03:44Lentils are basically edible seeds, according to Healthline.
03:48They're a part of the legume family and extremely nutritious.
03:52While they're packed full of vitamins, nutrients, protein, and iron, that they're a perfect
03:57thing to add to a vegetarian diet, none of that will ever convince Bobby Flay to put
04:01them on his menus.
04:03He told The New York Times,
04:04"...whenever I tell somebody I hate lentils, they're shocked.
04:08There are a lot of lentil fans out there."
04:10And it's not just a personal hate.
04:12Flay dislikes lentils so much that when he opened Bar Americain, he vetoed a beet and
04:17goat cheese salad, and it got the axe based solely on the fact that it contained lentils.
04:23That's not to say you'll never get lentils at one of his restaurants.
04:26When the boss is away, it turns out that the chefs will indeed play.
04:30He stated,
04:31"...when I go on vacation, they run specials on lentils."
04:34Now you know how to tell if he's out of town.
04:37Carrots might seem like an odd thing to swear off, but according to The New York Times,
04:41it's one thing that Alex Garnaschelli wants absolutely nothing to do with.
04:45She stated,
04:46"...I will serve baby carrots, but once it gets over two inches long, I break into a
04:50cold sweat."
04:51Why?
04:52Early in her career, she was a sous chef at an upscale Paris restaurant.
04:57Julienne carrots were always on the menu, like, always, permanently, and that meant
05:01she was responsible for julienning a lot of carrots.
05:05It's understandable how little carrots might be something that she'd never want to see
05:09again.
05:10She said,
05:11"...I get a panic attack when I see shredded carrot in a salad."
05:14It doesn't matter how much of a foodie you are, everyone keeps a few frozen pizzas in
05:18their fridge for those nights where they just can't.
05:21They're quick, they're easy, and if you happen to have some extra cheese and toppings to
05:25throw on, they're usually not terrible.
05:28But Ted Allen says that he absolutely won't eat a frozen pizza.
05:32He told Time,
05:33"...people should not eat frozen pizza.
05:35Ever.
05:36It's terrible.
05:37All of it's awful.
05:38It's packed with the lowest quality ingredients, lousy sauces, and they're overpriced for what
05:43they are.
05:44It's not a good product.
05:45There's so much sodium, so many calories, and artificial crap in preservatives."
05:50And it's not exactly pizza, either.
05:52It's almost pizza.
05:53"...Come on, that's pizza."
05:55Nope, it's very nearly pizza, but not quite.
05:58But sometimes you just want something that will cook itself in the time it'll take you
06:02to find something on Netflix.
06:04Allen has a suggestion, and it's pretty brilliant.
06:07Next time you order out for a pizza, order an extra one, individually wrap the slices,
06:12and freeze them.
06:14If there's one thing that American cuisine does right, it's breakfast.
06:17There are just so many options, from breakfast sandwiches to yogurt parfaits to stacks of
06:22pancakes with a side of bacon.
06:24But there's one chef that refuses to eat any of those things, and that's Ina Garten.
06:29She told Bon Appetit,
06:30"...I've had the same thing for breakfast every single day for 10 years, coffee and
06:35a can's quick-cooking Irish oatmeal with lots of salt.
06:38I don't want it to taste like wallpaper paste."
06:41That was in 2017, so by now, she's had well over 4,000 cups of coffee and bowls of oatmeal.
06:47That's a lot of oats.
06:48At least they're good for you.
06:50The barefoot Contessa might not have any donuts hanging around her house, but for all the
06:54breakfast foods she doesn't eat, there's four things that she says are always in her freezer
06:59— homemade stock, soup, vanilla Haagen-Dazs, and Grey Goose vodka.
07:03Sounds like a party!
