00:00NJ Transit, Frank. Of course. NJ Transit. The absolute worst. I don't understand how in 2024
00:08we are still in this mode of very little communication. Ticket prices are what they are.
00:15It's a train seat. What would you do if you took over NJ Transit? What would you do?
00:21Well, first off, I'd make that sure that every train runs on time and that they actually better
00:27communication when trains break down. I usually, uh, what train did you get? The, uh, let me see.
00:33Denville. Denville to New York. No rhyme or reason on how much time it's gonna take to
00:39get from one place to the other. That's the train I typically take. And how's it go for you?
00:45It's been late all week. Yeah, about as well as the jet season. Let's go.
00:49It's been late all week.
01:01They hate him. St. John's hates him. Ready for this walk? I'm ready for this walk. I got a walk to go.
01:06Come on. See, see, to me, to me, what he brings to the company is invaluable. Yeah, I know.
01:14It's just an invaluable presence. But I do, I do. He should probably teach offense to his team on
01:17attack. Am I allowed to ask a question though? Cause I, I don't, you know, I'm not locked in 24,
01:227, 365 in the middle of college hoop season, but I'm just looking from afar.
01:26What the hell's wrong with Mincy?
01:34Right now, scientists across the nation are trying to figure it out. This,
01:39it's not just one scientist. There are multiple teams. I mean, it's, it's, it's like, uh,
01:44what's up fellas. I had to go see the, uh, the Panic at the Disco, uh,
01:48tribute band played in Memphis. Uh, uh, I don't know what happened. Uh, the flight left at 730.
01:56I got there at 725 and he said, or the part of the gate. I don't understand that.
02:02Yeah. I'd like to schedule a Zoom with him. Cause this is just, you can help him.
02:07I think you can. If, because if I can't, I don't know.
02:11Okay. He's got to get on track here.
02:16Once you do get ready, May 9th, May 9th, May 9th Derby baby.
02:22Yeah. Maybe. What does that mean? What's up? I've never heard that.
02:31Is there too much with babies of like Thanksgiving bait, you know, Christmas baby.
02:35I've never heard Derby baby. No, we'll think about when it is though. You could,
02:38you could have parties around Derby. Who says Derby baby? No, I'm good. You want to come on.
02:46Let's rock and roll. Let's rock and roll. See you Saturday. You, you, you see this new thing
02:51man for wants to do the, uh, the golden batter rule. He wants to, he, this commissioner wants
02:58to destroy the sport of baseball. It's bad. He, he might be the worst commissioner of all
03:05commissioners in any walk of life ever. Well, what I don't understand is just shy of a decade
03:12ago, he was asked about a golden at that role on another show and he called and he totally dismissed
03:18it. He totally dismissed it. It is the most ridiculous rule proposal I've ever heard by
03:23commissioner ever just to have somebody random, somebody in the lineup come up and hit whatever
03:29you so choose. You could, it's not a game show. And the rule is this, you could intentionally
03:34walk somebody and then he could put a pitch runner up for him and have him come up again.
03:38It is that inane and stupid. That is a, it's a brutal, it's like a video game rule. It's not
03:43real life rule. No, you know, he wants to, he wants to attract these young kids who don't
03:46watch baseball anyway. You're already attracting them though. The games are faster. It's more fun
03:51to go to the games. It's, he doesn't have to do anything more. Baseball's in a good place right
03:57now. Well, I mean, it's in a better place than it was a couple of years ago. He wants all these TV
04:02networks to have like dramatic moments and, and, uh, manufacture it. It's not, you know, it's not
04:09the price is right. Like, come on down. You're, you're up here. You're getting the golden at that.
04:13Happy holidays. Now your team, your football team, the Browns. I mean, I could sympathize with that
04:22team. Here we go, baby. I can sympathize with that team. Well, look, it's been a tough go.
04:28They made one of the worst transactions, if not the worst transaction in the history of sports
04:33by guaranteeing, I can't even say that the name $230 million. You knew week one against Dallas,
04:40you knew week one against Dallas. So they were going to have to, that the end was inevitable.
04:44That if they waited too long, it was going to cost them. And Jameis Winston, he's an adventure.
04:51He's an adventure. He's not the answer for the longterm. Like there's some people who are like,
04:54I got to have next year. Maybe we have them as a bridge, but regardless, the Browns have to have
05:01a veteran quarterback. They have to go draft a quarterback. They have to go draft a quarterback.
05:05I don't know. I, you know, like, is it Milrow? I don't want anything to do with the Sanders train.
05:12I got to be honest with you. I don't think Sanders isn't a great quarterback draft. No,
05:16this is a bad quarterback draft. But would I be okay keeping Winston and drafting a rookie and
05:21grooming him? Yeah. But then I will get like a Jaden Daniels. You didn't have Jaden Daniels
05:26doing this. Nope. I didn't even have Bo Nix doing this. And Bo Nix is eight and five. I mean,
05:32Bo Nix has played terrifically, but I think a lot of that's Sean Payton being a good coach.
05:36But Stefanski is a good coach. The Browns coach is a good coach. My New York buddies
05:41wants Stefanski out with the Jets or the Giants. You can't have him. I think the big mistake that
05:46Browns made was giving up on Baker Mayfield. But why? Was he ever going to win them a championship?
05:53Is he ever going to win, come close to a championship? I think that you're a winner.
05:56You want to win it all. I think he was good enough where if they had to put players around him,
06:02they could have done it. They could have done something. Look, I mean, look at the Dolphins.
06:07This team has been mediocre so long. It's worse. It's almost worse than the Browns situation
06:14because they keep the same people in there. It's like they're content. The Browns have been in the
06:20playoffs two of the last four years. The Dolphins? The last two years, not this year. Last two years,
06:25but they're not. They haven't won a playoff game since 2000. That is an actual stat. The last
06:34playoff win was after the 2000 season. They beat the Bills. Lamar Miller had, oh no, they beat the
06:39Colts. Lamar Miller had this big game and they haven't won a playoff game since. So what's wrong
06:43with the Dolphins? Because I think the coach is fine. I'm not sure about the coach. The GM is bad.
06:50The GM is bad. The situation is bad. We got an owner that I think, I think they have a,
06:55remember they just have the, the Raiders have commitment to excellence?
06:59I did not have to replay 17 games. It's, it's eight and nine is great and fine.
07:08Yes. Yes. I, you know what? I don't like, like my Browns buddies on Monday night. You'll love this
07:14because you're, you're a fan of this team and I'm a fan of the, the Guardians and uh, you know,
07:19growing up the, the tribe that my Browns buddies go, well, you know, it was entertaining to watch
07:24the game. I had fun watching the game. That's where we're at. Having fun watching games.
07:30I want to win. I'm tired of watching almost and we competed and we came close. You know it as a
07:37Mets fan. Like this season for you and for me, honestly, we can relate with this. Both our teams
07:43coming into the year. I didn't know what to expect. We got, I thought the Mets are going to be
07:47flat out terrible coming into the season. I thought we'd be, I thought my Guardians would
07:51be under 500 and then Steven Kwan emerges and Ramirez does his thing. Naylor was a little
07:57all over the place, but Brian Rocchio by the end and they got pitching. Emmanuel Clauset was the
08:02best reliever in baseball, if not second or third best pitcher in the game. So now, but here's the
08:08question now for our teams, like are the Mets going to parlay this and, and, and, you know,
08:13take it, take the momentum and have a big time year. It depends if they're able, what they're
08:17able to do free agency-wise. They're trying for Soto. I mean, as of right now, he still hasn't
08:22signed yet. You're skeptical? I don't, I don't know. The Mets have been used so many times by
08:27Scott Boris and it just feels the same way. I feel, I feel that if the Mets, he was going to
08:32sign the Mets, the Mets, he was going to do it, but he's, but they're trying to drive up the price
08:38and get to a deal where, okay, the Yankees are paying him 50 million less, but it's worth going
08:45to the Bronx. Right. And that, or the Dodgers are going to give him a back, a backloaded contract
08:52in 2040 and pay him $2 million a year and not even going to be a quote for the salary cap penalty,
08:59but it's LA and ESPN is going to give him commercials and it's going to be, yeah, the
09:05golden at bat. If that happens, that would be the death knell of baseball. It's not happening.
09:13There's just things that, that you just know are not going to, there's no chance that that
09:16thing happens. Well, we'll just commit it. Well, you know, uh, Michael Kay actually needs a good
09:22idea. Well, look, I think Michael's had a legendary career and I'm not going to, I'm not going to sit
09:28here and, uh, and, uh, say otherwise. That being said, if he thinks that that anybody who thinks
09:34that that's a great idea, I just don't know how you could think that, especially. He actually
09:39first brought it up like in August. And when I first heard him, the clip came on, uh, on, uh,
09:45Twitter, uh, no, uh, Michael Kay. Michael Kay brought it up. Yeah. And, uh, and, uh, and I
09:50thought about it. I thought about the scene from, uh, Billy Madison. That is the dumbest thing I've
09:55ever heard. And we're all the dumber for having, having heard it. That's how bad that idea is.
10:03Baseball had such a good season for itself. It had big brands in the playoffs, making playoff
10:08runs. It did have a, I know you have your feelings. It did have a dream case world series,
10:14and that's coming from a Cleveland fan. Like for the sport of baseball, obviously you wanted that
10:19to go six or seven games. However, the Yankees unraveling there was the worst thing I've ever
10:23seen in the world. You know, you know, the, uh, you know, what's great is, uh, Aaron Judge is
10:29going to be in Times Square this year for the New Year's Eve ball drop. Aaron Judge is rocking New
10:38Year's Eve coming to Times Square, December 31st. Bring in the New Year with Booney and Judge.
10:48Booney and Judge and Stanton and the whole gang.
10:58Yes, I see that you went to Seton Hall. I went to Seton Hall, graduated in 2017.
11:03Now, I didn't have the money to go to Seton Hall or the grades.
11:07I didn't have the money and I had okay grades. But, uh, my
11:15grandfather's cousin actually saved the sports program at Seton Hall,
11:19and that's Monsignor Edward Fleming. Wow. That is an actual cousin of mine. He's, uh, I guess
11:26twice removed, that would be. Wow. My grandfather's cousin. But, uh, yeah, so I have like a family
11:32connection to Seton Hall and he's in the Athletic Hall of Fame. Wow. Thank you for saving Seton Hall
11:39sports program. Yeah. Well, the whole sports program he saved. Everything. Yeah, he saved
11:46everything. Wow. He saved everything. So, you have a lineage to this. You're in royal company.
11:54I mean, I wish that the NIL situation was better at Seton Hall. If I was Elon Musk,
12:00I'd be getting them to be good players, but I'm sadly not Elon Musk. Well, you know, uh,
12:06Dave's got Michigan football, right? Yeah. Why don't you and I just give Dave a holiday courtesy
12:11call and see maybe if we could help out a basketball program. Because, uh, I'm looking.
12:17Holiday spirit, you know. They were so good last year, won the NIT. Terrific. Shah's great. He's
12:24an awesome coach. Gene Holloway is one of the best coaches. And you just know, eventually it's going
12:28to get to the point where he's going to go, I can't win here. I'm going to leave. And, uh, uh,
12:33the NIL situation in Seton Hall is literally nil. I mean, it's bad. It's, you know, offense has been,
12:42uh, problematic this year. The defense plays good. And that's why that comes from Shah being
12:47such a, uh, a beast defensively. Great defensive coach. They've just had trouble finding that
12:53score. They've had trouble finding that bucket getter. And, and, and you know what? Seton Hall
12:58fans have had it spoiled for, for several years now between Willard and then what, what Shah can
13:02do. That, that maybe this is the type of season where you do have to look in the mirror and say,
13:08all right, number one, NIL, got to, got to boost here. Number two, does your off season, if, if
13:14things don't turn, does your off season start early? Do you start to really take a hard look at,
13:19okay, who are we going to identify to be able to score? College basketball though, I don't know how
13:23you feel about it. I think it's awesome. I think it's fantastic. I think the garden
13:28rocking is fun. I think college basketball is a better product than the NBA to tell you the truth.
13:33Look, they're both, I do games in both and, and you know, I know people who work on both sides.
13:39So, but I, but I'll say this, what college basketball does is the pageantry level,
13:45the atmospheres, look at Creighton knocking off Kansas. That court storming was insane.
13:50You'll look at Cameron last night, whether you're a Duke hater or lover, I was sitting
13:53there watching them like Duke Auburn, two teams, two of the best teams in the country.
13:57It's better for the sport when these heavyweights are, are battling. Yukon and Baylor, Storrs was
14:03wild. It was wild. And Connecticut got a big win. And the garden, I get to call it home for,
14:09for a week every March for the Big East tournament. There's nothing like bringing
14:13all these Northeast fan bases together. They all have their bars around Manhattan.
14:17It's a celebration of basketball. It's what sports should be. I still think the
14:21Big East tournament is probably because it's at the garden is the best of all the conference
14:25tournaments. It has a tradition effect like a Kentucky Derby, like a Masters. There's just an
14:32institutional value to the Big East tournament in a city that's based on tradition. The Big East
14:38tournament is one of those traditions, by the way, congrats to your hockey team. Yeah. They're
14:43strong start. Yeah, they played. What's funny is they're a better road team than your home team.
14:49Why is that? I don't know. I'm trying to figure it out. Have you gotten to see them at home yet?
14:54Yeah. They're two and seven when I watch them at home, but they won the other day and I was at,
15:00at the game at the garden where they just, just trounced. And I love when that happens,
15:06when they trounced the Rangers. What do you make of Ranger fans? Frustrated. They've won
15:12one Stanley Cup in 84 years. And that was with the Edmonton Oilers players. So basically they
15:18were the Edmonton Oilers in disguise. That's the only championship in 84 years. It's going to be
15:2585 years, 1940. 1940 to, they won in 1940. Then they won in 94. And now they're another, it's
15:35been another 31 years and they're not looking too good right now. And I think it might be like
15:42Halley's convent. They might win a championship every 50, 40 years. So 2038, 2048, that's not too
15:49far away, Ranger fans. Now, do you like the Jersey Shore? I go there occasionally. I don't get down
15:58there as often as I would like, but it's fun to go down there. It's East Side Heights. Now
16:06we're talking about college basketball. What teams do you think are going to be
16:09factors this year come March? Well, I think that Duke is in a position where with Cooper Flagg and
16:18now Tyrese Proctor's figuring it out. Isaiah Evans comes up big in the win over Auburn.
16:23I think Auburn's still the best team in the country. I think we're going to be talking
16:26about the Tigers all season long. They're the best player in the nation in Jani Broome.
16:30Their guard plays really good. Auburn is here to stay. You know, Kansas is going to be there.
16:36I wonder at times about their shooting. I thought Creighton did a terrific job defensively
16:42against Kansas, and I still think very highly of Gonzaga. You know, I think they're one of
16:47the best programs that hasn't been able to get to the mountaintop. Mark Fuse is so good,
16:52and he's got Ryan Nemhar running the point. He's got Graham Ike in the front court and Ben Gregg,
16:56Braden Huff. That Zags team is still very, very dangerous, but there's several good teams.
17:02The SEC is unbelievable this year. The SEC is the best conference in college basketball. Auburn,
17:09Alabama, Florida, and more. What about the Big East? The Big East is a league that should get
17:15five bids to the NCAA tournament, and in an 11-team league, Frank, you want to get half?
17:24UConn is trying to figure it out right now. They've got to play the long game. They've got
17:28to continue to evolve. Is this a doughnut year for them? A doughnut year meaning what? Define
17:32doughnut. Basically, they had the two straight championships, and because of the shifting
17:40players, they're going to struggle this year. I'm not ready to say that yet because of Marquette.
17:45The last time Marquette made a Final Four, they had a player named Dwayne Wade. This year,
17:50they have a player named Cam Jones, who I think is as good as any guard in the country.
17:54When you've won the last two national championships, you can afford the,
17:58maybe there's not a clear-cut national title contender, but you've got to get bids. You can't
18:02get only three bids to the NCAA tournament. No, that was ridiculous last year. They've got to
18:06get five or six. I think they'll get there. I think UConn, Creighton, Marquette, Xavier, St.
18:10John's. I'm looking forward to the season. Of course, it's going to be a great season.
18:18Well, thank you for joining. You got it. Thank you for having me.
18:23I kind of feel sorry for the Browns because the whole thing with Art Modell was ridiculous.
18:30To me, they should have let Art Modell, give him an expansion team, let the Browns stay in
18:35Cleveland. Let that franchise, and you know what? You would have probably had two championships
18:41because you would have had Ozzie Newsom running everything. You would have gotten Ray Lewis.
18:49You would have had all these great players. You would have probably won two championships.
18:52Ed Reed. Ed Reed.
18:54Jamal Lewis, who was a Brown at one point.
18:57What I always feel is that the new Browns, the expansion Browns, are kind of like those
19:06Louis Vuitton handbags you buy down in Chinatown. It might say Louis Vuitton on there,
19:11but it's like a cheap knockoff in reality, and that's what the Browns have been like the last
19:1525 years since the expansion team. If they've been a Louis Vuitton knockoff bag,
19:19what have the Dolphins been? It's like I said, the old logo. I love the old logo. I hate the new
19:27logo. It's a flaccid dolphin that looks like it's been washed up on the shore, and that's what the
19:32Dolphins have been the last 25 years. You know, every single year in Cleveland,
19:38Art Modell is up for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and every single year,
19:45there's a Browns beat writer who goes into the room before they come and vote, and he
19:51gives a 30-minute presentation on why Modell cannot be in the Hall of Fame, and as much as Art
19:59did a lot of good in his career, he took the Cleveland Browns out of Cleveland. You can't tell
20:04the story of Cleveland without the Browns, and for that, forever, Art Modell committed one of
20:10the biggest sins a pro sports owner has ever committed. I mean, it's good that the league
20:14stepped in and made sure that the Browns got the team out of the way, made sure they didn't lose
20:19their history. I mean, Baltimore, I mean, look at the Colts. The Colts, that should have stayed
20:26behind in Baltimore. I like how this year, that in a few years, the NBA is going to expand and
20:32the Seattle Super Sonics are going to be back. Yes. These cities, they're attached to their
20:38teams. I felt that for St. Louis when they lost the Rams. Oh, no, they were Los Angeles' team to
20:43begin with. I know. But LA doesn't need all those football teams. No, they don't. They only needed
20:51one. San Diego should have stayed. What about the Raiders? It doesn't really matter. It doesn't
20:56matter. Vegas is going to get four sports teams, and the Raiders fit. They do, and
21:03I was talking to Oakland fans last year, the Oakland Raiders. I said, oh, I feel bad for you
21:06guys. I'm sorry. They go, feel bad? It's an hour flight for us from Oakland to Vegas. We'll be fine.
21:11It's not the same for baseball, though. And they hate that guy, John Fisher.
21:16Well, John Fisher is not on the nice list this Christmas.
21:19But it's one of the reasons I really, even though it's almost 20 years before I was born,
21:28I hate the Dodgers for what they did in Brooklyn. Yeah, I'm with you. If you look at old war movies
21:36from the 40s and 50s, they were the Green Bay Packers. The baseball equivalent of Green Bay
21:42Packers was the Brooklyn Dodgers. And they took that away, and Brooklyn has never been the same
21:46since. Never been the same. Because the Nets, it's just not. That never worked. The Nets belonged in
21:52Jersey. They still belong in Jersey. And the arena's not good. It's a bad situation. That's
21:58why I jumped into the Nets. I just couldn't take it anymore. So I think we got something magical
22:02here, Frank and Fanta. So, Fanta, why don't you just tell Portnoy, what is it going to take to
22:09get you on the Fleming Enterprise? Well, we could have some follow-up meetings on that. First off,
22:18I respect the heck out of what you do. I think your story is outstanding for all of us. What
22:26you're doing here is really one of one at the company from my vantage point. And I think Frank
22:32Walks, I've watched a number of them. They're unique content. They're fun content. Others in
22:37the company could be taking notes. One with a last name that starts with an M. And I think that when
22:43you're looking at what you've been able to build, it would be a pleasure. If you're handing out an
22:50honorary degree in Fleming Enterprises, I would gladly take it. I'll gladly hand one out. Thank
22:56you. Thank you for having me on this. This is awesome. This was a lot of fun. And to our
23:01football team's having a better 2025, although I don't know if that'll happen. I don't know.
23:07The Dolphins need just a new front office and then from there we'll have to figure that out.
23:12How about Mets Guardians this summer at Citi Field? I'd love to go. I got the 20 game plan.
23:19Yeah, I did. How'd the first pitch go? It went well. It went well. I tweeted David Frye in
23:23Cleveland. Love him. Yes, he's great. I just hope the Mets one day invite me. I mean,
23:29the CUNY contest has to forgive me first. Come on. Come on. Throw out that first pitch. That's my
23:35ultimate goal. I've done five teams. I'd like to do a lot of teams, but the Mets will be the
23:40ultimate goal. Mets offseason to-do list. Have Frank throw out the first pitch one to get Soto.
