Police will attempt to recover the wreckage of a light plane which crashed into the sea at Scotts Head off the New South Wales mid-north coast yesterday.

00:00Police say a witness reported at around 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon seeing a light
00:07plane come down at sea just south of Nambucca Heads.
00:11Local residents also reported seeing a light plane flying low over the Nambucca River.
00:16A search operation was launched from here at nearby Scotts Head and a short time later
00:22police confirmed finding the wreckage of the plane about one and a half kilometres offshore.
00:28Later it was confirmed two people had died, the pilot and a passenger.
00:33A recovery operation for the wreckage continued into the evening last night.
00:39Investigations are now underway by officers attached to the Mid North Coast Command.
00:44The Australian Transport Safety Bureau says it won't be leading an investigation as
00:49it only investigates crashes involving recreational planes on an exception basis.
00:55Today Fire and Rescue NSW crews will also be combing local beaches looking for debris.
01:03There's reports of fibrous material contained in the debris so those involved with the hazardous
01:08materials unit are also involved.
01:11The fatal plane crash comes just a week after another fatal light plane crash in this region
01:17that occurred at Yamba last weekend.
