00:00Mga ko-RSP, cliche as it may sound, new year, new me.
00:32kay Doc Raymond Bautista, isang occupational medicine specialist.
00:36Maganda umaga po, and welcome to Rising Shine Pilipinas.
00:38Good morning. Happy New Year, po.
00:40Nice to be here.
00:41Thank you for joining us today, Doc Ryan.
00:53Yes.
00:58because of overeating.
01:09and diabetes during the holiday season.
01:11Nako. So, mas prevalent pala ang diabetes at hypertension?
01:15Mas prevalent in the sense that most of them,
01:17or most of the Pilipino people, use their 30-month pay
01:21just to do their checkups.
01:25at hypertension.
01:27Yung sana pang-leisure natin,
01:30na pang-bili ng mga gadgets,
01:32sa ospital na pupunta.
01:34O sa gamot.
01:35O kaya sa gamot.
01:36Ganun po ba ang trend?
01:37Kapag Januari-February, maraming kumukonsulta.
01:39Mostly, it's either before December or during January,
01:44after nilang kumain ng madami during December or holiday season,
01:47dun sila nagpapacheck up sa doktor,
01:49dun na-diagnose.
01:54Wala kasing simptomas.
01:55Most of our Pilipino people doesn't know
01:57that they have already diabetes or hypertension.
02:00Okay.
02:01Paano ba tayo nang kakaroon ng hypertension, diabetes?
02:04What are the symptoms, Doc?
02:08Correct.
02:09Ang diabetes saka hypertension,
02:12especially hypertension,
02:13they call it as a silent killer.
02:14Because they don't manifest any symptoms,
02:17o wala nararamdaman ang pasyente,
02:19unless na magpacheck up,
02:29madaling mapagod, hinihingal.
02:31Tapos pupunta sila sa doktor,
02:33dun nila malalaman na may diabetes or hypertension na po sila.
02:36So, yun ang pinakaproblema po namin.
02:39Kaya we try to educate them for yearly checkups
02:42para malaman po nila yung kanilang kondisyon.
02:44Ayun.
02:44Yung executive checkup,
02:46ganun ba yun, Doc?
02:47Siguro ang isa sa mga New Year's resolution,
02:50magpacheck up ngayong first quarter of January.
02:59ngayong start of the year,
03:01na gusto nga magshift to healthy lifestyle?
03:03Ati mga kababayan.
03:04Okay, magandang tanong yan.
03:06Ang pinakaimportante lang siguro is yung kanilang healthy mindset.
03:22we know naman po natin,
03:24it's very easy now to order food online.
03:26Hindi nila alam kung sometimes yung ano yung ingredients
03:29na nakakasama po sa katawan po nila.
03:31So, healthy mindset lang po,
03:33will go a long way for their health being.
03:36And sabi nyo nga po kanina is,
03:38just check up every year, or once or twice a year,
03:41will tell them how to prevent their diseases.
03:49Doc, ano po yung mga options in terms of diet
03:52ang dapat naming gawin
03:54in order for us to have a healthy lifestyle?
04:03I always tell my patient,
04:04just follow the acronym of the diet.
04:06D-I-E-T.
04:08Diet means D for diversify or divide.
04:12Instead of putting kakainin nila isang buong lechon,
04:15baka talahate, pwede na.
04:16That's almost 50% na natatanggal po nila.
04:19Or, alisin po nila yung mga masasamang pagkain
04:22at sumubok naman po ng mga masasarap
04:24pero healthy na pagkain po.
04:26Individualized means that you should
04:41Yung IPO stands for Eat With A Purpose.
04:43Mostly, sa ugali ng mga Pilipino,
04:46kumakain lang po sila dahil nabobore po sila,
04:48walang ginagawa.
05:03Yung TIPO stands for Timely Eating.
05:06Alam na po natin masasarap yung pagkain.
05:08Usually, pag masarap,
05:09mabilis po nilang nilulunok
05:11at hindi na-uchinuchu yung pagkain.
05:13We know, tinutuan tayo ng magulang po natin
05:15to always chew your food.
05:17Take time, hindi ko nagmamadali.
05:19Para mas madali natin madigest
05:21at hindi ko nahihirapan ating gastrointestinal tract.
05:24Sabi yun, Eat With A Purpose.
05:25Yung iba pa naman ang pinapractice,
05:27seafood diet.
05:28When I see food, I eat.
05:30Hindi na nag-iisip, wala nang purpose.
05:33Alright, to.
05:34Balik tayo dun sa diabetes at hypertension.
05:36Ano po ba yung mga komplikasyon
05:38na maarit kong idulot nitong diabetes at hypertension?
05:41Pareho-ho kasi silang may mga risk factors
05:44na sinishare.
05:46Unang-una po yung pagkabigat ng timbang or obesity.
05:49Pangalawa po, yung ating sedentary lifestyle.
05:53Hindi nahu gumagalaw o wala hong exercise.
05:56Pangato po, is yung ating unhealthy ng pagkain,
05:59lalo na rich in mga alcohol,
06:04yung ating mga mata-taas na asukal,
06:07mata-taas na kolesterol ng pagkain.
06:09Pang-apat po, is yung smoking.
06:18o wala talaga tayo magagawa,
06:19is yung age and genetics po natin.
06:21Kasi lahat na mga po tayo tumatanda.
06:23Both four, makikita nyo out of five,
06:26is magiiwasan po natin sa tamang exercise,
06:29sa tamang diet,
06:50But again, we encourage a yearly check-up
06:53and to see us to properly give them
06:55guidance and medication.
06:57Alright Doc, bukod sa motivation na guwapo ka,
07:00kaya pupuntaan ka ng mga pasyente po.
07:02Magpapakonsulta na po si Fifi.
07:04Ano bang drive?
07:05Kasi some of the Filipinos kasi,
07:07they don't want to go sa hospital
07:09hanggat hindi pa matindi yung sitwasyon
07:11na nangyari sa kanila.
07:12They want to self-medicate,
07:14sila yung doktor sa sarili nila.
07:15How are they going to be motivated
07:17na despite na wala naman silang nararamdaman,
07:20eh dapat sila konsulta sa doktor?
07:22Because I think that's the problem.
07:23I mean, this may be a philosophical question,
07:26pero it really manifests to most of us.
07:28There's a saying,
07:31what do you call this?
07:33An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
07:43And ano tawag neto?
07:53magpakasakit.
07:54And yung prevention po,
07:55sa pagtingin po,
07:56sa pagpunta po sa amin,
07:57sa pagbigay po ng tamang gamot,
07:59malaking bagay po noon na natitipid po nila
08:01at yung kanilang pangangatawaan
08:03e lalo ho magiging healthy.
08:06And because we know that we have a healthy body,
08:09we also have a good life to live.
08:11So, malaki po ang impact po noon e.
08:14Basically, sa question sa motivation po,
08:17we see how many Filipinos die
08:21because of hypertension and diabetes.
08:23Sa lalo nun sa mga complications po neto.
08:25Yan dyan po yung mga damage po
08:27yung ating blood vessels,
08:29yung katarata po,
08:31yung mga kidney failure,
08:33nagpapadialysis,
08:35and nerve damage,
08:36and even our diabetic foot.
08:38So, kung ayaw po nila
08:40magkawin ng gano'ng mga malalang sakit,
08:42I suggest that they do preventive care,
08:45go to their doctors,
08:47magpacheka po parati,
08:49and kumain po ng healthy na pag-gain.
08:52Alam mo, minsan naririnig natin ito sa bahay,
08:54lalo kapag kayong anak,
08:55nagpapaalala sa nanay.
08:57Mas kasi ng ulo mo, e.
08:59Sinabi mo, pumunta ka na sa doktor.
09:03Kulit-kulit mo.
09:05Ang dami natin natutunan kay Doc Ryan.
09:07Parang sa panayam natin ngayon,
09:09isa-isain mo,
09:10ang dami muna pwedeng New Year's Resolution.
09:12Kumbaga sa quiz,
09:13pwede na ako mag-over 100
09:15sa dami nang sinabi ni Doc.
09:17Pilihin ang mga pagkain,
09:19kumbaga eat with a purpose,
09:21kumonsulta sa doktor.
09:22Gawin niya po yan.
09:24Para sa New You for the New Year.
09:26Doc Ryan, thank you very much
09:28for joining us today.
09:30Happy New Year!
