Delhi health authorities have stepped up measures in response to the growing threat of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), following the detection of two cases in Karnataka. The city is now mandating isolation for suspected HMPV cases and strict reporting protocols for all Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases. Hospitals are being equipped with essential medications, and healthcare professionals are being instructed to implement infection control measures to prevent further spread. As global concerns rise, Delhi aims to stay ahead of the virus with proactive measures. Learn more about these steps and their impact on public health.

01:46There has been news doing the rounds about a
01:49Meta-Pneumovirus outbreak in China.
01:52Let me be very clear on that count.
01:55Meta-Pneumovirus is like any other respiratory virus
01:58which causes a common cold.
02:00And in the very old and the very young
02:04it could cause flu-like symptoms.
02:07However, we have analyzed the data of the respiratory
02:11outbreaks within the country.
02:13There is no substantial increase in December 2024 data
02:19and no cases which have been reported in large numbers
02:23from any of our institutions.
02:26In any case, during winters there is an increased
02:28outbreak of respiratory virus infections
02:31for which our hospitals are usually prepared
02:34with the necessary supplies and the necessary beds.
02:37One thing I would like to convey to the public
02:40is to take the general precautions that we use
02:43against all respiratory infections
02:45which means in case somebody is cough and cold
02:47you should avoid coming in contact with a lot number
02:50of people so that the infection does not spread.
02:53And while using a distinct handkerchief or towel
02:58for coughing and sneezing
03:01and take the normal medicines that are required
03:04for cold or fever whenever it is there.
03:06Otherwise, nothing to be alarmed about the present situation.
