In order to determine the patient's blood type, various familiar test sera are added to the blood samples.
Depending on whether or not the erythrocytes contain antigens that interact with antibodies from the sera, an agglutination reaction occurs. By the same principle, the Rh factor of the blood is also established. Knowing the patient's blood type can help him in critical situations, for example, when transfusing blood to maintain compatibility.
